I did an Apple software update today and ever since I cannot keep the hard window closed. That is, the window automatically opens, I close it and it re-opens about a minute or two later. If I leave it open, it re-appears on top of all other window/applications that I am working on. Sort of like an annoying pop-up that you can't get rid of.

Repeatedly when I try to reopen Aperture 3 after closing it (and the prior close is a normal close without issue), I find aperture never loads. The icon in the tray says it's running but the window never opens. Â
The only thing I can do is Force Quit. Then if I'm lucky, I can open it again using the troubleshooting key combination and can select to repair database or repair permissions, and it will load.Â
This basically makes me never want to close it but sometimes it would be nice to do so. I'm also very worried about my library getting hammered and unusable eventually.Â
I have sent the reports to Apple but I'm not sure if anything will come of that. Â
The library size is 442 gb.Â
Some applications, such as System Preferences, Coconut Battery, iPhoto, etc., quit when I close the window.
View 8 Replies View RelatedToday, suddenly, my finder has started quitting whenever I go to the "applications" tab. Every other part of the finder works but the applications refuse to open. It's worrying me because I think it could be one of those few mac viruses. I'm running a virus scan at the moment to see.
Also on the possible virus front. I had cleaned my HDD the other day and gotten it to 58 gigs left of free space. A few days later it came up as 78 free though which confused me.
Expose rocks! but apple should make the three buttons in the upper left corner of every window accessible when the window is shrunken by expose. That way you could close the window without having to select it first. On a side note, they added the ability to close a finder window by right clicking on it when its minimized in the dock, but this appears to be a feature that is left up to the developer of the ap to include (all the other aps don't have a close menu)

The prior version always gave me a "Do you really want to close this window? You have X open tabs." message, which I'd like to restore. I looked in Preferences to no avail.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy MBP recently had a bunch of problems with the logic board and speakers. I brought it into the Apple Store (on Monday) and they gave me the option of them sending it into a repair center, or them repairing it locally in store. I requested that they sent out just because I was curious to see how long it would take. To my surprise, my MBP arrived, fixed and as good as new on my doorstep today. That's amazingly fast for sending it out to a offsite repair center. The repair center is in Philadelphia. I live in Maine. You do the math. When I've had things repaired locally in the Apple Store it's taken weeks to repair instead of days because they need to order the parts.
Anyways, the point of this thread was to suggest to people that they choose the offsite repair option. It's amazingly fast, and it saved me a trip to the Apple Store (they shipped my MBP directly to my house).
I already have the Quit Finder menu item, but whenever I try quitting Finder, Finder just pops back up if I don't have any other open applications. Is there a way to close Finder and have it not open back up unless I click on the icon?
View 24 Replies View RelatedI went to use my flash drive to open some old files (which were created on a pc, Word) to see if I wanted to delete them, opened several files with Word using Windows for Mac, closed out the files, went to reopen them and couldn't. The size of the files went down to zero KB after opening. I had tried to move several to the trash but I got an "error -43" code. I can't figure out why this is happening. No idea where to start.

Here's the problem: Let's say I have Chrome w/ three tabs and Pages open on my Mac Mini. If I go to the Apple Menu and restart, when the computer restarts I want to see nothing other than my desktop. However, regardless of whether "Close windows when quitting an app" in System Preferences > General is checked, the apps (and their respective tabs/windows/documents) pop up, too.Â
App state persistence, reopening apps on start, resume — whatever it's called, I want to disable it. It's super annoying. As mentioned, I tried the checkbox in System Preferences (checked and unchecked), and cannot find anything else that even refers to this. Happens on my Late 2012 Mac Mini and Late 2012 13" MacBook Pro.Â

Somehow I was able to open all dates in iCal. So everytime I try to start iCal, iCal tries to open all that studip dates. And I've a lot of endless dates, so it opens windows until it crashes.Â
How can I stop iCal from opening without opening all that windows?Â

where no matter if I close a window or document, windows/docs which had previously been open relaunch if I relaunch the app. For instance, I launch Safari and go to the following three sites: URL... I subsequently close blue.com and the later close safari completely. Upon re-launching Safari, I would expect red and white to reopen (the two sites that were open when I closed the program), however red. white AND blue reopen.Â
this was just an example, in reality when this again just happened a few minutes minutes ago, Safari relaunched 27 websites in 4 different windows, even though I had specifically closed all sites/windows and quit out of Safari before re-launching.Â
Similarly, upon restarts, the OS not only re-launches apps and windows I had open at the time I requested the restart but many documents, windows and applications that were CLOSED at the time I restarted the computer. When I close something, that seems like a clear indication that I am done with it and don't need it open. OS seems to feel differently.

slight scratch noise comes from the lid when i am closing, the noise is annoying me and happened a few weeks ago.
Do you think it is a fault ?
There is a small crackling noise when I close my MBP lid. It seems like the joints are really dry and need oil almost. Is this normal?

Everytime I open an application on my mac book pro it automatically sends me to an error message saying "insert name of application" quit unexpectedly click reopen to open the application again. This report will be sent to Apple automatically.
Once i press reopen however the same message continues to apear, and i am unable to open any of my applications. Â

I have an old MBP laying around that is not worth selling due to a number of little issues it has. However, it still functions just fine and, I think, would make an excelent server. However, there is one small issue: If I close the lid, it will go to sleep.Â
I've tried using a few different apps, InsomniaX and Caffiene being two of the more popular ones, but so far nothing seems to take. I know I can do this with the use of an external monitor or mouse, but I don't want to have to keep a mouse plugged in simply so my server can run and I don't have, or want, to set up a monitor for it.Â
