Sudden Preview.app shut down. Error message - it unexpectedly quit while reopening windows and will not launch. Have tried finder go option preferences to no avail.Â

How can I keep previously opened apps from reopening every time I restart. I close the apps before I shut down, and then they reopen after I restart.
View 3 Replies View RelatedHere's the problem: Let's say I have Chrome w/ three tabs and Pages open on my Mac Mini. If I go to the Apple Menu and restart, when the computer restarts I want to see nothing other than my desktop. However, regardless of whether "Close windows when quitting an app" in System Preferences > General is checked, the apps (and their respective tabs/windows/documents) pop up, too.Â
App state persistence, reopening apps on start, resume — whatever it's called, I want to disable it. It's super annoying. As mentioned, I tried the checkbox in System Preferences (checked and unchecked), and cannot find anything else that even refers to this. Happens on my Late 2012 Mac Mini and Late 2012 13" MacBook Pro.Â

Befroe people start saying "You have to check..."I have. I unchecked it, it didn't work. I uncheck it, close system preferences, open application, previous windows opens, I rip out another tuft of hair, go BACK to system preferences. IT RECHECKED ITSELF

Somehow I was able to open all dates in iCal. So everytime I try to start iCal, iCal tries to open all that studip dates. And I've a lot of endless dates, so it opens windows until it crashes.Â
How can I stop iCal from opening without opening all that windows?Â

where no matter if I close a window or document, windows/docs which had previously been open relaunch if I relaunch the app. For instance, I launch Safari and go to the following three sites: URL... I subsequently close blue.com and the later close safari completely. Upon re-launching Safari, I would expect red and white to reopen (the two sites that were open when I closed the program), however red. white AND blue reopen.Â
this was just an example, in reality when this again just happened a few minutes minutes ago, Safari relaunched 27 websites in 4 different windows, even though I had specifically closed all sites/windows and quit out of Safari before re-launching.Â
Similarly, upon restarts, the OS not only re-launches apps and windows I had open at the time I requested the restart but many documents, windows and applications that were CLOSED at the time I restarted the computer. When I close something, that seems like a clear indication that I am done with it and don't need it open. OS seems to feel differently.

Is there a way to get Safari NOT to open previous windows on restart?

This is a problem I've noticed on two Macs I currently own. First I had my 20" iMac with Vista installed, and currently I have a 24" iMac with XP installed. In both cases, when I'm in Windows and need to restart (for whatever reason) and want to go back into Windows instead of OS X, the Option key does not function correctly to bring up the OS select screen, and instead will go straight to OS X, as that is the default OS I have set up to boot into.
So basically, if I restart from OS X, the Option key works fine and I can choose to go into Windows, but restart from Windows and I have no choice in the matter, it makes me go into OS X. Any idea why?
My first thought is that it has to do with the fact that I'm using Apple's bluetooth keyboard (and mouse), but once the computer has actually restarted, why would it matter? Does the computer remember the BIOS from Windows when it restarts, and therefore fails to recognize my bluetooth? For the record I have to turn my keyboard off then on again when entering windows to get it to be recognized and work, but not the mouse, which works fine.
I have an iOS X10.9.3.
Lately I have too many popup on my safari browser windows and even separate popup windows open when I click to continue my search.
I have even an warning message: "you have excessive popups. Windows have been infected. Please call 1-855-617-0709".
What should I do?
I have checked multiple support sites, and all indicate the same shortcut. I even tried "adding" the shortcut in the "Application Shortcuts" screen in Preferences.Â

I have my "block pop-up windows" checked in Safari 7.0.6 and yet I am still getting a lot of unwanted pop-up ads and am getting very frustrated each time I use my computer. If I deselect "Enable JavaScript and Allow plug-ins" as suggested from a May 29, 2014 post, I can't utilize my online banking.

I use to be able to select the vista partition to restart into from the configuration pages in leopard on my macbook pro, but now my bootcamp partition is missing. I have to hold the option button to manually select the windows partition and then load into windows. Some setting somewhere must be lost. Does anyone know how to restore it?
View 2 Replies View RelatedOn Windows I noticed there was an icon in the bottom right (next to the clock) that I could right click and then restart in Mac OS X. Is there a similar thing for OS X that I can just click in the menu bar and restart in Windows?

View 24 Replies View RelatedJust making the transition over to mac ater 16 years of windows! Loving OSX, but having a few problems getting W7x64 working well at all. Essentially, as the title suggests, I am unable to restart, shutdown or sleep My Mac PRO 8 core from Windows 7x64. OSX works fine, and i can boot into W7 with thge alt key, but when I attempt to leave windows, it goes through the motions, eventually gets to a black screen and hangs & I am forced to hard reboot.
I suspect the NVIDIA 2x 120 cards I have in the macpro are the culprit, as the PC side of things work fine until the apple bootcamp drivers are installed. I have tried uninstalling the nvidia drivers and then wiping the PC with driver swiper, and this works for a short while. But it seems even the WHQL Windows drivers or the latest NVIDIA drivers have the same effect, and it is not long until the problem turns up again and I am unable to restart or shutdown. I have also disables the NVIDIA display driver service. NO joy.
I updated my 15" MBP (MD 104) to the latest version of OS X and while restarting, it got stuck and has not recovered for quite a while. It shows my wallpaper and even if I close the lid, the screen refuses to turn off. I cannot access anything as it is stuck in the phasing out stage so I see my wallpaper as a blur.when the battery finally runs out, it will have to shut down which I cannot do right now despite holding down the power button for quite a while.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI did an Apple software update today and ever since I cannot keep the hard window closed. That is, the window automatically opens, I close it and it re-opens about a minute or two later. If I leave it open, it re-appears on top of all other window/applications that I am working on. Sort of like an annoying pop-up that you can't get rid of.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI went to use my flash drive to open some old files (which were created on a pc, Word) to see if I wanted to delete them, opened several files with Word using Windows for Mac, closed out the files, went to reopen them and couldn't. The size of the files went down to zero KB after opening. I had tried to move several to the trash but I got an "error -43" code. I can't figure out why this is happening. No idea where to start.
View 1 Replies View RelatedEvery time I restart I have to sign in to apple id for every app! Since upgrading to Mavericks, every time I restart my MacBook (Mid 2010) or open any Apple software i.e. iTunes etc, I'm prompted (3 or 4 times per application) to sign in to my AppleID account.
I then get a prompt for all other Apple software i.e. iBooks, Mail, iPhoto & iMessage etc etc regardless of which app I initially opened. This results in inputting my AppleID upto 20-30 times for every restart. I thought the problem might rectify when I upgraded to Yosemite but it still happens.Â
I've tried running Onyx and clearing all the caches etc, SMART status checked, HDD no errors...I have reset my Apple ID and used it to sign in via Macbook, iPhone etc.MacBook (Mid 2010) Yosemite 10.10.1

Spotlight still wanting to reindex their mac after every restart/reboot - the finder becomes completely bogged down until spotlight finishes reindexing my mid 2011 iMac hard drive. I have tried a clean install from scratch, clearing the caches, deleting the spotlight files and letting it reindex from scratch, nothing seems to get rid of the initial lag once the desktop first appears - it happens after every restart or initial boot up….as soon as the icons for the hard drive appears, it immediately goes into "reindexing iMac hard drive" and takes a few minutes to complete, during that time, the computer is totally unresponsive to anything until it finishes. (Computer configuration = Mid 2011 iMac with 16GB ram and 500GB H.D. that has over 200GB of free space - Time machine backs up to a 2TB Lacie D2 Drive via firewire 800).

After updating the system wants to restart but hangs on the Restarting screen since about 10' - writing on iPad. I couldn't find other topics so I post mine. Will do a hard shutdown and restart. In some minutes.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been unable to shutdown or restart my MBP mid 2012 retina (2.6 GHz Intel Core i70, other than by holding down the power button. I've tried, (safe mode, restore, repair permissions reset PVRAM. etc). I finally got it to shutdown regularly by eliminating all Divx software on my computer (no easy task), but shutdowns and restarts still hang an unusually long time, about 15 seconds.Â
I send console information just before my last BOOT_TIME to see if any process in the time after restart command and boot would give any hints. Here are the entries, and there appear to be some problems but I cannot interpret them. I have an external WD passport drive connected (which I can eject before restarting with no noticeable effect, and a USB hub, which I also disconnect to no effect).
