MacBook Pro :: Crackling Noise When Closing MBP Lid?
Apr 26, 2009There is a small crackling noise when I close my MBP lid. It seems like the joints are really dry and need oil almost. Is this normal?

MacBook :: Low Pitched Electrical Whistling Noise / Crackling Noise Emitting From Magsafe
Dec 20, 2010I just got my 2.0ghz Alu Macbook a few days ago and everything works perfectly well, the thing is that after day one the magsafe started to emit a low pitched electrical whistling noise. It tends to be there a few minutes after booting into the OS and then it turns down to almost unhearable, but I experienced it returning after a few hours of use and then disappearing again. If I move close to the escape key I can hear a crackling noise emitting from the magsafe.I'm not trying to be overly nitpicky or anything but I read somewhere that if it's doing that it would be a faulty Mag-Safe board or something.
Does any one you guys know anything about this? I have the 14 days to return it as I bought it online from the Apple Store so if it's a faulty part that might die/break/ cause problems later I might have to.

May 10, 2009when I was browsing the BBC website . I happened upon the front page and could hear a crackling sound, eventually after looking round the room for about 5 minutes I realized it was the macbook.
When the news page 'scroller' at the top types its news story out in a tika tape kinda way that is when the crackling noise happens .
does this make sense ? is my macbook faulty ? ..does it take soo much power to perform this function as to make my macbookCPU crackle ?
the noise is coming from approx the center of the notebook and is quiet(ish) but audible enough
anyone have any ideas ?

OS X :: Loud Crackling Noise [Sound Clip Included]
Oct 20, 2009My Macbook Pro 15" [2 GHz Intel Core Duo, OS X 10.5.7, 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM] makes a loud crackling, chainsaw-like noise from the upper left part of the keyboard. I think it maybe the fan but I'm not sure. I've attached an audio clip of the noise:

Jan 7, 2009When ever i open or close the case for my white macbook it makes a creeky noise. Is this normal or should i go to the apple store and get them to check it for me?

Jun 12, 2006its normal for the lid to be making a plastic cracking noise when closing and opening it? Its like a clicking noise as if it catching on something as its being opened. I didnt notice it at when i first got the unit, but now it seems to be getting progressively worst. Also was wondering, does anyone else find the case flimsy around the ports on the left handside? I can push the plastic in and out with my pinky.

Jul 19, 2009When I go to close it, it makes a noticeable clicking then shuts as normal. If I leave it in a partially closed position for a few seconds, it clicks again when I shut it.
Obviously something is getting stuck or jammed but I can't see what it is or which bit of the hinge it's stuck in...

May 25, 2012My 13" MacBook Pro (Mid 2011) is making a loud click, or snapping noise whenever the clamshell is closed, or moved a little sometimes. It's becoming very persistant and doesn't seem normal. Most of the time it does make the noise (which is from the back right). I'm taking it in tomorrow under warranty. Any suggestions? Is this normal? The screen also moves smoothly and is always in place. It's all strange and hopefully they can replace the hinge.

IMac :: When 27" In Sleep Mode Or Turned Off/slight Crackling Electrical Noise?
May 4, 2010When the computer is sleeping or if I turn it off but the plug remains in the electrical socket, when I get very close to the machine I hear a slight crackling noise, as if the internal adaptor is making a slight noise. I don't hear it from any normal distance, and other than the buzzing phenomenon when brightness is below 50%, no other symptom. Is this normal for this model. I believe that the external adaptor for the 30" ACD made a louder but similar noise as well unless unpluged.

Dec 10, 2008I am starting to a hear a clicking sound opening and closing my new MBP. It sounds like a loose hinge or a cable getting caught or something.
I took it to an Apple store to see if they could pop it open and take a look but they said they would have to send it away and it would take 7 to 10 business day. I really don't want to be without my new computer for 7 to 10 days. It isn't that big of deal but it does tick me off every time time I open and close and I worry that if it is a cable it would eventually cause a problem.

Jun 17, 2012I've had my macbook for almost a month now (late 2011 model) and it started a few days ago where when im playing music or watching tv shows online, my speakers start crackling or skipping a little bit. I'm worried something is wrong with the computer because i don't play my volume loud at all, and i tried plugginf in earphones and it was still doing it. It doesn't do it all the time, it'll start up and stop after a few minutes and do it again.

Aug 31, 2014I've had a late 2010 Macbook Air for over 3 years (February 2011). About a week or two ago I started hearing a strange popping noise every now and then while I was using headphones. I thought it was a problem with the headphones but then discovered the same thing when I used different external speakers. Almost simultaneously the internal speakers started periodically having no sound at all, even though it wasn't on mute. This was previously fixed by restarting the computer, but now the problem is permanent. The popping noise when using headphones has also rapidly worsened, and now crackles constantly and sometimes there is even very loud white noise. This occurs with any program on my computer - web browsers, spotify, itunes etc. I'm using Mavericks but the problem started some time after I installed it. After doing some googling to try to fix it I've tried:
- Turning it off and on again
- Installing AntiPop
- PRAM reset
- SMC reset
- Disabling and reinstalling Adobe on google chrome
- Resetting the sound card with terminal

MacBook Pro :: Crashes After Crackling Sound On The Right Side?
Jun 1, 2014I have a MBP 15" mid-2010 which worked perfectly until two weeks ago:
From time to time a kinda loud crackling sound happens on the right side of the laptop which freezes and shutdown.
I had similar issue on my Bootcamp partition with Win 7, some weird repeated noise then a shutdown.
I can't use AHT diagnostic as it says it is not available on my computer when I hit ALT + D when I reboot.

Apr 6, 2009Whenever I wake my computer from sleep, there is a crackling sound that comes from the hard drive. After that, every five minutes or so, the crackling sound continues. It's like the sound of some crinkling a plastic sheet/static-y sound. I can hear the hard drive whirring and the crackling sound coming from that.
Is this normal? I have a 2.4 ghz Macbook aluminum, bought in Oct 2008. I'm hesitant to bring it in right now because I have finals coming up in 2 weeks and I need my laptop for it. I've already brought my Macbook in and had it sent in two times due to issues w/ the keyboard (keys not working or falling off), and each time it took about a week to get it back.

Oct 1, 2009Sometimes I lift and carefully move my 17-inch MBP a short distance to another flat surface without putting it to sleep mode, it starts making really loud mechanical noise when I put it down, so loud that people in the same room can hear the noise and I can feel vibrations too! What causes this? Where does this noise come from? Is my MBP defective?

Jun 6, 2009On my 13" MacBook Pro, the hinge makes a cracking noise on the right side of the computer (near the power button) when the screen is positioned all the way back.The entire hinge also makes a loud popping noise when I adjust the screen position. The screen seems very tight, and it takes a little bit of effort to move the screen, and when the screen is moved it makes the loud popping noise.
This is probably going to make some of you guys cringe, but sometimes putting pressure down on the top of the case close to where the black hinge meets to unibody enclosure seems to stop the popping noises. Putting downwards pressure on the hinge, or flipping the computer over and putting pressure on it that way, also seems to alter how much popping noise there is.
If I mess around a bit with applying pressure on different parts of the computer around the hinge, I can usually eliminate the noise. But, the cracking noise when I put the screen all the way back is still there.Any ideas what to do? It's not interfering with the operation of the computer, it's just incredibly annoying and this is only a four month old machine which shouldn't be creaking and cracking already.
MacBook :: PISMO G3 Squealing Noise - Noise Coming From Under The Keyboard
Jul 14, 2008Has anyone else had problems with an old G3 Pismo making an annoying squealing noise when plugged into a charger? There's a lot of noises mentioned in mac/apple forums but none of them relate to this one. Here's what it is not:
It's not coming from the screen or the fan or the speakers (it's under the keyboard). It's not low or slightly annoying (it is a loud squeal). It happens only when the power adaptor is plugged into the laptop.(it used to cease after I unplugged the power adaptor and plugged it back in three times; now that solution doesn't stop the noise anymore). It charges ok, and runs ok, scream or no-scream. It's quiet right now, but if I move the adaptor to another plug it will start again.
I was going to live with this, but today after an hour of operating quietly it just started again, and I hate to leave the house with this going.(it will scream whether the laptop is on or off. I have a really old battery and cannot replace it (I am currently staying in Mexico for the summer). Battery life is 45 min. I haven't tried pulling the battery out. That would be too easy.
This all started when I bought a replacement power adaptor (generic),after the original one melted down, but I could stop the screaming by unplugging/plugging it in again once or twice. Then I bought an expensive iGo adaptor, and it does the same thing.
I Did the PRAM and PMU reset.I can hear it over music or the tv. It grew lower in pitch today after squealing for a half hour. I'd normally not let it go on that long, but i was
in the other room.Is my PISMO dying?

MacBook Pro :: Fan Noise Or Hard Drive Noise?
Oct 25, 2008I just got my macbook pro yesterday and ran it all yesterday not hearing anything. Today when I woke it from sleep I could clearly hear the fan or hard drive going. I was in a quiet room and it's quite annoying.
istat says its at 2000 rpm so thats when I started thinking it may be the hard disk. It does pulse every now and then but thats even while it's just sitting idle.
I guess I could live with it but its just annoying. Anyone else having this?

Mar 23, 2008My brand new 2.8 8-core mac pro arrived a couple of days ago, and needless to say its great..for the most part It's standard spec but with the 8800GT and the airport card.Although I use it with OSX for most things, I need to be running Vista for the odd bit of gaming, and more importantly for software development (still need Visual Studio and .NET)So i've installed Vista x64, installed the bootcamp drivers, and then updated the graphics to the latest Nvidia drivers
