View 3 Replies View RelatedI noticed that iPhoto and iMovie are setup so when I click on the red button to close the app it actually exits the entire program. Is there a global setting that I can turn on so I can do this in any app? I actually like this a lot more than keeping the programs running.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI did an Apple software update today and ever since I cannot keep the hard window closed. That is, the window automatically opens, I close it and it re-opens about a minute or two later. If I leave it open, it re-appears on top of all other window/applications that I am working on. Sort of like an annoying pop-up that you can't get rid of.
View 8 Replies View RelatedToday, suddenly, my finder has started quitting whenever I go to the "applications" tab. Every other part of the finder works but the applications refuse to open. It's worrying me because I think it could be one of those few mac viruses. I'm running a virus scan at the moment to see.
Also on the possible virus front. I had cleaned my HDD the other day and gotten it to 58 gigs left of free space. A few days later it came up as 78 free though which confused me.
Expose rocks! but apple should make the three buttons in the upper left corner of every window accessible when the window is shrunken by expose. That way you could close the window without having to select it first. On a side note, they added the ability to close a finder window by right clicking on it when its minimized in the dock, but this appears to be a feature that is left up to the developer of the ap to include (all the other aps don't have a close menu)
View 7 Replies View RelatedSince downloading version 5.1.7, when I click on the red button to close a window, it closes instantly -- even when the window contains numerous open tabs. The prior version always gave me a "Do you really want to close this window? You have X open tabs." message, which I'd like to restore. I looked in Preferences to no avail.

I have a Mac Pro with 10.5.4 (Intel 2.66 Dual-Core -- 5GB ram) installed. Things have been running smoothly for a long time, but recently I've had a few kernel panics, which seem to have gone away, but now it's very common for applications to freeze, and I can't unfreeze them by force-quitting--I have to power the G5 down by holding the power button.

When I open the force quit window, it fills my entire screen, and it is larger than the screen of the TFT monitor that I am using from time to time. How can I change its size back to original? The window is not resizable by dragging its border or clicking the green plus button in the title bar. Â
I don't know how the window got this size in the first place. All I know is that it happened during a crash where I closed a lot of other windows and where I accidentially clicked the green plus button of the force quit window instead of the red x.

I've assigned the tags I want to a file, I'll get the beach ball. If I go into the Force Quit window it will say that Finder is not responding. But if I wait about 20-30 seconds it stops and I can go about my business w/o re-starting the Finder. I only noticed this after installing Yosemite. I use tags A LOT.

Typically, a short sleep does not affect the apps I have running. So if I step away from the machine and it goes to sleep, when I wake the machine in a half-hour or so, the various app windows are still there and I can keep working. I use Mission Control to keep three desktops: one for Mail, one for Safari and one for general use. When the machine goes to sleep at night, Time Machine and Carbon Copy Cloner do their backups (around 3:00 am). Then when I wake the machine in the morning, there are no running apps. Mail and Safari seem to have quit and those Mission Control desktops are empty. how I can keep those apps running?

'm showing iBooks, Pages, & Preview are still open via the Force Quit dialog but I haven't used them since the previous evening.I have an older Macbook (Aluminum, Late 2008) so I try to run as lean as possible. There are no extra windows open that I can find. Double clicking them from Force Quit brings them up to then quit from the application proper, apps to quit when I tell them to.Has this to do with iCloud integration? (Like Pages wasn't quite done with an iCloud upload before I quit).Should I try a reinstall of the apps or Mavericks?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am running Mavericks 10.9.3.
I always quit out of all apps before doing a shutdown. I make sure that nothing, except Finder, is running when i shutdown. And, I do a full shutdown, not just sleep. Â
Yet, occasionally, the apps that were running before I quit out of them will restart when I turn the MacBook back on.Â
I frequently have to Force Quit my applications - both Microsoft Office apps and Adobe Creative Suite apps. I have an iMac running 10.6.8, connected to a Microsoft 2003 server (the 2008 server works even worse for the iMac connection). I also frequently lose the server connection and have to re-boot to get it back. Re-booting involves pushing the Power button Off, then On because the menu commands don't work.
I have NO issues with the Internet connection - it remains strong throughout. I'm wondering if upgrading to Lion will increase the stability. To do that, I would also have to upgrade my Adobe CS software from CS4 to CS6, and expensive proposition with no guarantee it will resolve these issues. (Many of the Apple techs I called pointed their fingers at the Microsft server.) Is any of this curable? If so, what is the cure?

I have previously used the GRAB utility to take a snapshot of an open Safari windiw, and the snapshot included the entire windiw contents. When I opened the snapshot in Preview, I could scroll up and down and view the entire contents of the original Safari windiw. Then, I tried it again a few hours later on a different Safari window, but I then got only the part of the windiw that was visible in the browser at the time that I GRABbed the window (i.e., when I took the snapshot). What do I need to do to get the entire windiw?

Why is hiding a window / app not a 1-click window control? Perhaps with Option+Click as Hide All Others.Window controls exist to streamline common tasks; hiding is a very common task in OS X.

Under purchases I'm getting "you have not purchased any apps." Under Itunes in the Cloud all my apps are listed as hidden but when I click "view hidden purchases" it says I do not have any hidden purchases. I have three Macs and all are experiencing the same issue so this is an account problem and not a computer software problem. The funny thing is that it's still recognizing updates.Yes, I've tried signing out and back in to view my account with no luck. The only thing I did weird last night was I disabled the Itunes store and automatic downloading on one computer. This morning when I had the above problem I put all the settings back.Â
