Some applications, such as System Preferences, Coconut Battery, iPhoto, etc., quit when I close the window.
View 8 Replies View Relatedwhat the difference is between the commands 'close window' and 'close all windows'? They seem to me to both have the same effect. In my earlier version of Safari, if I opened a new web page, it just replaced the earlier one, now though the new pages just keep accumulating. T

I was wondering if there was a way to close windows while in expose mode. For example, I hate it when I go to a site and a few pop ups come up and i turn on expose mode and i have to click on each one and make it come up and then press exit and then reopen expose and then click on another pop up and then exit and reopen expose and etc etc... To be more specific its kind of like the new windows 7 feature where you hover your mouse over the icon at the bottom and those little windows come up (kinda like expose) but those little windows have little x's where you can just exit the window without having to click on it and then exit and then go back down to the little icon and etc etc.

Since downloading version 5.1.7, when I click on the red button to close a window, it closes instantly -- even when the window contains numerous open tabs. The prior version always gave me a "Do you really want to close this window? You have X open tabs." message, which I'd like to restore. I looked in Preferences to no avail.

Safari has frozen after I tried to quit it, I can't open or close any programs, force quit, use shortcuts or use any open programs as the safari bar still appears at the top of the screen, I would force shut down but I've got an after effects project open.

This is not a crash, as I get no message. Every time I am done browsing, I close the window, and when I want to reopen a window, I have to relaunch Safari. Usually, the screensaver has started when I come back to my computer, but it has happened while my computer was active also.

When I try to close safari using the red dot at the top left hand side of the screen instead of the window closing it opens a new blank safari window. Infact the same happens when I click the amber and green buttons also.
I recently have had to system updates (last night and today). Last night I also had a problem that has fixed itself where pressing the command + Q buttons would not clos safari and the "Quit safari" in in the safari drop down was greyed out. As I say the later isue has fixed itself after I force closed and the updates loaded on. Not sure if the two issues are connected.
I tryed to quit out of the Safari program but it will not quit.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have the latest update for Safari on my MacBook Pro 17" (running the latest Lion update). Lately, the command-Q (quit) option under the File menu is greyed out/not available. I tried using the Quit function from the dock icon for Safari--no good, either. I have to Force Quit in order to close Safari.

Why is hiding a window / app not a 1-click window control? Perhaps with Option+Click as Hide All Others.Window controls exist to streamline common tasks; hiding is a very common task in OS X.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Macbook that has been running slow for the last 2 days.
I scouted the net and ended up finding out I should check my Activity Monitor, which I did. There is a "WD Button Manager" that will flash up for a second and then disappear . It says that it is using 96% of my CPU.
(Does this explain why my mac is slow? Even as I type this there is a delay for a second and then the words appear!)
I think its for a Western Digital external HD I had a while back but I never use now.
So i tried to find the program and did, I tried to drop it in the trash and delete it but it gives me the message, cant trash because it is open.
But I cant open it when I click on the icon, it opens omnioutliner? (no idea what this program does!)
I did an Apple software update today and ever since I cannot keep the hard window closed. That is, the window automatically opens, I close it and it re-opens about a minute or two later. If I leave it open, it re-appears on top of all other window/applications that I am working on. Sort of like an annoying pop-up that you can't get rid of.
View 8 Replies View RelatedToday, suddenly, my finder has started quitting whenever I go to the "applications" tab. Every other part of the finder works but the applications refuse to open. It's worrying me because I think it could be one of those few mac viruses. I'm running a virus scan at the moment to see.
Also on the possible virus front. I had cleaned my HDD the other day and gotten it to 58 gigs left of free space. A few days later it came up as 78 free though which confused me.
Expose rocks! but apple should make the three buttons in the upper left corner of every window accessible when the window is shrunken by expose. That way you could close the window without having to select it first. On a side note, they added the ability to close a finder window by right clicking on it when its minimized in the dock, but this appears to be a feature that is left up to the developer of the ap to include (all the other aps don't have a close menu)

View 15 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, my uTorrent will not close after I decide to quit it. Therefore, I have to got to Force Quit to close it which it does. However, when I turn on uTorrent again, the files I was downloading before will start over like they did not download at all. So far I tried to update my uTorrent but it is up to date. Now I could turn it off by pressing the power button but I do not want to do that to ruin my Mac Mini.

View 6 Replies View RelatedIs there a way for a Microsoft Office application to auto-quit when you close the last window of it opened? For example, when I close the last window opened of Microsoft Word, the icon sits in the dock with the indicator light still on underneath, waiting for me to manually quit it. I know many other apps auto-quit once they are closed, just wondering if this is an option for Microsoft Office for Mac?

Now I press the command + ESC and it quits the program... is there a shortcut to just close the window instead of quitting it altogether?
