I used to have an older macbook where i could hit the f11 key and that would automatically move all the windows to the side and would let me click on a doc on my desktop. now i have a macbook 3.1, intel core 2 duo, 2.2 GHZ, l2 cache 4 mb and it no longer has that feature. the f11 key is reserved for the volume and i really need the volume. i think that feature is located here on the f11 key in this photo,
[URL]
but when i click on f11 nothing happens. even if that feature were available it would not be an ideal solution because i really need the volume keys. i've tried reassinging the volume keys to other keys but i can't figure out how to do it.
I Have a mid 2012 13" Macbook Pro OS X version 10.9.4 running Mavericks. My desktop is cluttered with icons and I'd like to know how I can clear it without deleting any of them. Where can I send them to be stored safely.

Ever since I have had my Mac, which I bought only in March, I've been totally baffled by the Stacks facility.
I put documents straight from the desktop onto a folder onto hard disc - it appears to have done this. I then check it a few days later - no document in folder and I then have to panickily check the Stacks to see if a copy is in there.
It usually is, so I then have to start again -drag doc onto desktop and then put it into folder and hope the darned thing stays in the folder this time.
how can I view sent messages on my desktop on my macbook? I can read incoming mail but I cant see messages I have sent from another device, ie, ipad and desktop on my laptop and vice versa?
I was chattin on msn for mac. I went into expose and found a friend talking to me, i clicked it but it would show up. Apparently its completley off the desktop. I had to sign in and out. Is there a fix for this
I am familiar with CMD M combination to minimize screens. This is not doing the trick. I experience that I have to use this command several times as some programs just want minimize based on one command. It requires that one makes the programs active by clicking the cursor and than use cmd M again.
Is there yet another command that results in a an immediate desktop view.
I have a hot corner set up to show the desktop.. in Snow Leopard when I exposed the desktop and then clicked on the finder in the dock *just* the finder would show.
Now, with Lion, when I click on the finder it comes into view but all the other open applications come sweeping back in hiding the desktop.
Can I change this back to the way it was before? Or is there another sneaky quick way to show only the desktop and the finder? Set up an entirely different "desktop" in mission control dedicated only to having nothing open in it?
In short: I need a fast way to drag icons from the desktop into folders in the finder. Also, this is driving me nuts.
My activity monitor says I'm suing 122.43 GB of virtual memory. I'm sure that the number is much, much less. But I would still like to reset the virtual memory.
Suddenly today I can't save my Word docs. An error message comes up along the lines of check your network connection. This strikes me as a bizarre messge for this programme.
Does google docs work flawlessly on a macbook air? I would have about 5 tabs of it open in safari, be listening to music on iTunes, and probably have one or two microsoft office apps open. Would it run well, on both the 1.6 HHD and the 1.8 SSD? For my class we use a lot of google docs, and I heard that the Macbook air has some flash problems, so I need to know before I buy one.
Cannot copy to MacBookPro or open InDesign docs from external disk.Error code -36 and -43.They appeared to be locked.I unlocked in Information, but receive the same message."The operation can't be completed because one or more required items can't be found."
Earlier tonight I opened iCal, only to find that none of my calendars were there. it was completely empty. However, when I changed the view from "Week" to "Month" all of my events were listed (in the proper color) on the appropriate day, but I still had no list of calendars on the left. Subsequent changes between "Day" "Week" and "Month" view continued to display the events properly, but nothing showed up in the calendar menu on the left.
I repaired permissions same thing happened.I trashed com.apple.ical pref (forgot the exact filename)same behavior. I use .mac to sync between computers, and I use Missing Sync to sync to a Palm T|X.
I have an older MBP (2.2Ghz, 2GB RAM, 120GB HD) and am having problems with PDF files. Well, I guess it would be better described as annoyances with PDF files. I use Adobe Reader and the lag when scrolling is unbearable. Does anyone know of a way to fix this? Can anyone suggest alternate programs that may remedy my problem.
I'm selling my Macbook in the morning and was wondering how do I clear all my personal information and my iTunes account before he picks it up.I'm hopeing some one won't say use the install discs ?
Just got a MacBook Air, running 10.7.3 and noticing that on many web sites (firefox and safari are the same), the images just are not clear. They are a bit fuzzy, and some have some sort of weird border around them. I have attached a screen shot of the amazon home page. Notice the weird gray area around the letters and images? Is there a setting or something that can make this better?
I have a Macbook Pro 15" from Mid 2010 and today I went and bought a Mini displayport to HDMI connection so I could use a TV as a monitor and clamshell.
The TV is an Emerson LC220EM1. Which is a 22" monitor.
I am having problems getting the TV to have clear resolution, It is okay, but its definitely not as clear as it could be.
Also when I put them in mirror mode, the top bar is cut off on the external monitor.
