OS X V10.7 Lion :: View Only The Desktop With Icons And The Finder?
Mar 14, 2012I have a hot corner set up to show the desktop.. in Snow Leopard when I exposed the desktop and then clicked on the finder in the dock *just* the finder would show.
Now, with Lion, when I click on the finder it comes into view but all the other open applications come sweeping back in hiding the desktop.
Can I change this back to the way it was before? Or is there another sneaky quick way to show only the desktop and the finder? Set up an entirely different "desktop" in mission control dedicated only to having nothing open in it?
In short: I need a fast way to drag icons from the desktop into folders in the finder. Also, this is driving me nuts.

Mar 10, 2012How do I upgrade my desktop computers from Mac OS 10.5.8 to Lion?It seems like I have to upgrade to Snow Leopard before I can upgrade to Lion.I need to do this for 4 iMacs and I need to do it to be able to transfer my MobileMe data to iCloud before MobileMe ends on 6/30/12.Otherwise my iOS devices will be able to sync to each other but not to any of my iMacs.

ITunes :: Doesn't Play After Mountain Lion Upgrade
Apr 24, 2012I just upgraded from Snow Leopard, installed Mountain Lion, 10.7.3, and with it the recommended iTunes upgrade 10.6.1. It seems to have broken things.
If I click to play a song I can get the play window, but it'll be frozen at 0:00. Starting, stopping, dragging the cursor: nothing will make the time advance or music play. This happens with samples of music, purchased songs, video samples. The Console isn't showing any error messages.
I've logged out, and back in. I've shut down completely and rebooted. I've check that stuff still plays OK on my iPad.

Jun 27, 2012I have an Intel-based iMac which I just upgraded two days ago from Snow Leopard to Lion (10.7.4). I did an upgrade-in-place (as opposed to a fresh install) and did a software update after the installation completed. I have my computer scheduled to wake up each morning at 6 a.m. When it wakes up, the sound doesn't work unless I reboot the computer. If I open up iTunes and try to play music, there is no sound (unless I reboot). The song progress meter at the top of iTunes won't even move when I hit the play button. When I open the Sound preference and click the Output tab, I do see the Headphone port and the output volume is set all the way up.

Jun 9, 2012When I pick up my pop email (thru apple mail) on my iPhone, it doesn't appear in Apple Mail on my desktop. I don't delete it and have to rules or prefs that tell Mail to delete it or remove it from the server.
When I use Thunderbird on my desktop, that doesn't happen. In other words, I open Apple Mail on my phone and read my email. Then later I open Thunderbird on my desktop and the mail is still there. Open Apple Mail on my desktop, the mail is gone.
Just because I read an email on my phone, doesn't mean I don't want it in a folder on my desktop.
OS X V10.7 Lion :: Switching To Application Doesn't Move To Correct Desktop
Apr 16, 2012I have an annoying problem with application switching since I have upgraded to Mac OS Lion from Snow Leopard.Now switching between applications doesn't work as good as it was in Snow Leopard.
Right now I have Finder and Xcode opened. Xcode is assigned to only one specific Desktop and Finder is assigned to None. And when I am in Xcode for example and use Cmd-Tab to switch to Finder, it deactivates my current window, but doesn't move to the space with Finder or makes Finder active. Then, I press Cmd-Tab again, and it makes Finder active (My top panel controls show Finder now) but I still stay in the space with Xcode. And further switching doesn't do anything. So I then need to manually to click on the Finder icon in the Dock. And the same is vice versa when switching from Finder to Xcode.
If I switch by clicking the Finder Dock icon it then works in two steps: first time it deactivates current window, and after second click it moves to Finder Desktop and makes Finder active.
Another issue is with Safari when I am in Fullscreen mode and have also Activity window opened. If I am in Finder and switch with Cmd-Tab to Safari, it just shows me the Activity window in the same Desktop no matter how many times I Cmd-Tab. To switch to Main Safari window I need to click on the Dock icon.If I switch only by clicking the Dock icon, then I again need to click it twice.
Option for moving to space with selected application in Preference Pane is switched on and Automatically rearrangement of last used applications as well.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Excel Doesn't Stick To Mission Control Assigned Desktop
Feb 21, 2012I've assigned Excel 2011 to a specific desktop in Mission Control. Upon launch, it opens in the assigned desktop, but if I'm on another desktop at the time I launch it, the blank spreadsheet opens on that desktop and not the one assigned to Excel. I know it launches on the assigned desktop because it switches to that desktop momentarily, but then switches back to my current desktop to open the blank spreadsheet.
If I open an excel spreadsheet while on the Excel desktop, it opens there and stays there, but if I click on the Excel icon in the dock to open a new spreadsheet while on another desktop, the spreadsheet opens on that desktop and not on the desktop assigned to Excel.
Most of the apps I've assigned to desktops in Mission Control work fine, but Excel and Word don't follow the rules.

May 15, 2012If I am in Google Maps Street View and I try to quit Safari, it always refuses to quit. (ie. Nothing happens at all when I click Cmd+Q)
If I come out of Street View, by zooming out into Satellite or Map view, or by going to another site altogether, Safari will quit normally.
As far as I know Street View is the only thing that causes this problem of Safari refusing to quit.
I'm running Safari 5.1.7 at the moment, (although the same thing happened in previous versions), and OS X 10.6.8.

Jan 25, 2010I am familiar with CMD M combination to minimize screens. This is not doing the trick. I experience that I have to use this command several times as some programs just want minimize based on one command. It requires that one makes the programs active by clicking the cursor and than use cmd M again.
Is there yet another command that results in a an immediate desktop view.

Feb 16, 2012I used to have an older macbook where i could hit the f11 key and that would automatically move all the windows to the side and would let me click on a doc on my desktop. now i have a macbook 3.1, intel core 2 duo, 2.2 GHZ, l2 cache 4 mb and it no longer has that feature. the f11 key is reserved for the volume and i really need the volume. i think that feature is located here on the f11 key in this photo,

but when i click on f11 nothing happens. even if that feature were available it would not be an ideal solution because i really need the volume keys. i've tried reassinging the volume keys to other keys but i can't figure out how to do it.

May 17, 2012I recently upgraded my mac mini from 2gb ram to 8gb ram and noticed that when the mac goes to sleep and the tv ( through hdmi wire) goes into standby that the mac mini will not send a signal to the tv anymore to wake up the tv from standby when I need it too from tapping on keyboard or moving mouse. At first I thought it was because of a software upgrade on the mac mini but when I switched back the ram to 2gb the mac mini will send the signal to wake the tv. I hav already reset pram setting and the usual things that everyone has mentioned in other posts . This seems to be a major flaw in apple deisgn unless they have a fix . I am stuck with my 2gb ram now in the mac which doesnt even have any speed . the only way I can use the 8gb ram is if i turn the mac on and off everytime I want to use it , as this is the only way to wake the tv with the 8gb ram inside as it doesnt wake the tv from sleep. This totally contradicts what apple say in their manual aswell, they say not to power down your mac if your using it everyday just put it to sleep which wont help me in my case . So at the end of this rant my only two options are to continue to use 8gb ram and have to power on and off mac everytime to wake the tv or use my 2gb ram which makes the mac run really slow as 2gb is not enough but hey aleast my tv will come back on from sleep mode .

Mar 26, 2009I have a MacBook Pro (early 2008) and i am trying to use my Sanyo HDTV (i don't know the exact size but probably close to 30") as an external display. I am using a Belkin DVI to HDMI cable. My problem is that when i hook up the TV it cuts off part of the desktop image (mainly the menu bar since i put my dock on the side). Is there any way to fix this? Such as how can you adjust screen position on a tv maybe? (and yes i tried the displays preference pain but i couldn't get the desired results).

Jun 17, 2012I just bought 2 - 4 gb memory to ugrade my 2 - 2 gb memory on my macbook pro 13" early 2011. Installed them and rebooted. The About Mac still shows 4 mb memory and looking farther it shows it has 2 - 2 mb memory. Also, now when I close the lid on the computer and it shuts down completely and not just go to sleep. i do not know if the two are related.

I have an aluminum macbook (April 2009) and when I use a picture as a desk top image, even HD resolution pics it never quite fits well as wallpaper. I have tried all options (stretch, full screen, etc).
When I had windows pics would always fit nicely. With my mac its either too stretched and just doesn't fit well
Anyone else have this issue? Am I missing something?
