Software :: Won't Work To View PDF Files / Can't Find Program To View
Jul 29, 2009
I have an older MBP (2.2Ghz, 2GB RAM, 120GB HD) and am having problems with PDF files. Well, I guess it would be better described as annoyances with PDF files. I use Adobe Reader and the lag when scrolling is unbearable. Does anyone know of a way to fix this? Can anyone suggest alternate programs that may remedy my problem.
I noticed that finder is not displaying all files when I look at folders with lots of files in "icon view" mode but they do show up in "list view" Same thing happened with the computer at work. I'm using OS X Leopard on both.
Ive just been watching a YouTube video about adding colors to Folders, when the guy in the video clicks View he gets this .. the bottom option to change the background missing
has any one an idea why my change background option is missing and how to get it back. I am running 10.6.5
I am familiar with CMD M combination to minimize screens. This is not doing the trick. I experience that I have to use this command several times as some programs just want minimize based on one command. It requires that one makes the programs active by clicking the cursor and than use cmd M again.
Is there yet another command that results in a an immediate desktop view.
Earlier tonight I opened iCal, only to find that none of my calendars were there. it was completely empty. However, when I changed the view from "Week" to "Month" all of my events were listed (in the proper color) on the appropriate day, but I still had no list of calendars on the left. Subsequent changes between "Day" "Week" and "Month" view continued to display the events properly, but nothing showed up in the calendar menu on the left.
I repaired permissions same thing happened.I trashed com.apple.ical pref (forgot the exact filename)same behavior. I use .mac to sync between computers, and I use Missing Sync to sync to a Palm T|X.
The file extension is exactly that, .igs. I can't get it to open using anything, nor can I find very much information on what programs even deal with it. I see alot of stuff about .iges.
These files were created about 6 years ago. I've tried TurboCad demo, eDrawings demo, TouchCad demo. Nothing works. All say unsupported file.
me and my grandma are planning on getting a family pack MobileMe account to save money instead of having two accounts. She has a trial account currently, so from what I understand is tomorrow I go buy the family pack box set, set up my account (which will be the master account), cancel her account (disable synching on her iPhone before hand), add her account under account options in my account, and viola. Now here's my question:Since we will both be on the same 'family pack,' will she be able to view my emails, find my iPhone, pictures, or anything else? And vice versa. What I'm hoping is that even though they are in the same family pack, you will have to log in with each specific account (via password) to see mail, contacts, etc
in Windows a folder can use ID3 tag information from music files for display in a column view just like you would see music displayed in iTunes. (Title, Artist, Album, etc.) I have an extensive library of music (600+ GB) and sometimes I'm working with multiple external drives. I'm also constantly adding to the collection as I get new music. Being able to see all of this data in the OS window makes managing the music on multiple drives much easier. We're talking about folders with 1000's of songs in them. I don't want to have to set up mutiple iTunes libraries for each external drive and deal with the headache of switching back and forth between them.
Most of the time when I download a file or unzip a file, the resulting file gets placed behind an existing one. Like instead of the file being placed in the next open spot, it ends up where another file is, making it seemingly disappear. I then have to look through the entire folder to find it and put it in an empty spot. This occurs when in icon view only, and is VERY annoying! What is happening here and how do I fix it? I'm using 10.6.2 on a June '09 MBP. This has been happening for a while now but I don't remember if this was occurring pre Snow Leopard too.
Well I want to look at my children's files but when I try it says that I don't have permission too look at them! I mean what more permission do you need then to be an Administrator?! Do I need to have Root access or something?!?!!!
Upon upgrading to Lion, I can no longer view pdf files unless downloaded and then opened. When attempting to view pdf files in Safari all I get is a black screen. I am able to download most files and then view, but some sites don't have that option.
Another issue that I can't seem to fix and I think first appeared with Snow Leopard is that whenever I open Safari I get a message about my version of Safari doesn't support Community Toolbar although have upgraded my browser whenever a new version is availalbe.
I just converted from a PC to an iMac and am working my way through the learning curve. One thing that I've encountered is that I cannot view .avi files that I took using a flipcam. Can someone please point me in the right direction as to a program I need to download that will allow me to do so.
I was playing with the different display configurations and options in the Finder trying to figure out what suited me best. I right-clicked on "All My Files" and there was an option to add a search bar to the file. I clicked on this to see what happened and all the files were gone and the full search bar was at the top of the page with all the filters (like 3 or 4 lines worth) displayed. I went back to All My Files, right-clicked again and there was an option to Remove Search Bar (or something like that I dont remember exactly). When I clicked on this the search bar was still displayed but without all the lines of filters and I still can not see any of my files.
I right-clicked again on All My Files and there was no longer anything in the menu about the search bar, the right-click menu magically changed from four items to three. I have looked at all the view options and tried to figure out what happened but I am at a loss as to what I did that made All My Files search only (or at least that's what seems to have happened). This obviously doesnt stop me from being able to view the files through other routes (i.e. clicking on Documents in the Favorites sidebar, selecting Computer from the Go tab, clicking on Macintosh HD on the desktop) but is still quite annoying.
If there's a pdf file within a website, when I follow the link all I get is a blank, black screen. I have reloaded the latest version of Adobe Reader but that hasn't helped. I'm running 10.6.8 on an older Macbook Pro.
I have a security camera system at work & i need to pull video from it and view it on my MBP. The file it gives me when I output from the machine is an .arv, (which I have never heard of) but I cannot seem to find software (preferably freeware?) to read it. The system gives me a viewer ("DVR Viewer"), but it is an .exe, so it won't run on my system.
Just bought an MBA today and am having zero luck wirelessly seeing the files, videos, etc. on my iMac for viewing on the MBA. In my iMac, the sharing options are all checked right. But I cannot get access to it other than something called a "drop box". Same the other way around.
I think os x is superior to Windows in almost every way but I do wish I could perform two simple actions the way Windows works.
The first is the ability to 'cut' and then paste files. If I want to move files to a different folder, I've got to open up another finder window and drag and drop.
And secondly (and most annoying) is switching folder views (icons, list etc). On Windows when you change the view of a folder, it automatically becomes the default view for that folder. In os x changing the view changes the global view across all folders, unless you apple-j and tick the 'always open in...' which would be a real hassle to do for every folder!
Is there any way to achieve these actions in os x?
I performed an erase and install of Snow Leopard and then used Migration assistant to transfer all my data back to my computer. After that I noticed that on my 2 other internal hard drives, most of my folders had a red minus sign over them and when I clicked the folder it said "The Folder can't be opened because you don't have permissions to see its content". I clicked get info and under sharing and permissions there was a name that said "unknown". was this the newly created account which I had deleted? Afterwards I added my account and applied it to all my files and folders. I can now access all my files and folders. But now my question is weather or not my files became corrupt or was it just a permissions issue? Also What caused the permissions issue in the first place?
What application do I need to open files with a .wmv extension? I get emails with attachments with this file extension and Quicktime can't open the file.
