OS X V10.7 Lion :: Cannot Copy To MacBook Pro / Open InDesign Docs From External Disk
Mar 28, 2012
Cannot copy to MacBookPro or open InDesign docs from external disk.Error code -36 and -43.They appeared to be locked.I unlocked in Information, but receive the same message."The operation can't be completed because one or more required items can't be found."
I downloaded Lion onto my Mac, and now cannot open or access any of my Microsoft word documents or Power Points. Is there a fix for this? I need my documents.
I'm using a macbook and would like to copy over several games over to my friend's external harddrive. The files are rather large -8gigs, 6gigs, 4gigs.
For some reason it wont allow me to copy the files to the HD. only prompting me with the message "the operation can't be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code 0)".
I presume that it's formatted correctly because I was able to copy a smaller file (363megs) without any troubles. However, whenever it involves these large torrents it prompts me with that same message.
I have an external HD where I back up data from other Window laptop. when I connect this HD to Macbook, it is available as read only. I cannot copy files from my MacBook Hard disk to the external HD.
How to copy files to external hard disk and use it for both mac and windows. there is the fat32 formatting bt i dont wanna use formatting because i already have a lot of content on the exteral hard disk.
Info: MacBook Air (13-inch Mid 2013), OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)
I have a new iMac with MS Office for Mac 2011. When I go to finder and click on a document the computer opens all word docs. How do i stop this behavior?
I have an iMac and MacBook Pro, both have Snow Leopard. I use Carbon Copy Cloner but only to back up the iMac to an external drive. I do not want to create a bootbale drive of the laptop (not enough space in the external hard drive). What I want to do is ocassionally copy files from the laptop to the iMac. I know how to do this via sharing but sharing does not really let me back up only new files. In other words, upon my periodic file copying backup from laptop to iMac, I would like whatever tool or app or program or Mac feature you may suggest to detecte which files already exist in the iMac. So, pretty much the same thing CCC does but not a bootable drive, just copy files. I also want to create a file copy back up of some of the applications in the latop. I dont think drag and drop or sharing would work for this. Really, I would be satisfied with some kind of snapshot if you will of the applications and versions in the laptop.
I received my 2006-2008 mac mini from a friend. I don't know exactly what year it is to be exact. It was a school computer that was givin yo him an now i have it. I want to wipe it completely clean and start over from the way it was right out of the box but I do not have the installation disk. How can i get a duplicate copy A.S.A.P and how much will it cost with shipping and all.
When I try to open a Word document I receive the following message "Word cannot open this document. The document might be in use, the document might not be a valid Word document, or the file name might contain invalid characters (for example, /)."
Info: MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1), 2 GB DDR2 SDRAM
I clicked on the iChat icon and when it tries to open, it says the following (see attached file).
In addition, I have various Pages and Keynote documents in the "Documents" folder. However, it does not show a preview of a Pages or Keynote document as it did before. It just shows a Pages logo on a Pages document and a Keynote logo on a Keynote document. What's going on?
I have a 2TB Western Digital My Book Studio FW800 external that has 5 partitions, connected to my 2011 iMac. I had help doing the partitions and don't really remember the reasoning, but one is just for my SuperDuper! backup, one is Miscellaneous, one for movie clips off my camcorder, one for misc scanned photo's and one for my genealogy research. I back up using Time Machine to a Time Capsule and also to this WD hard drive with SuperDuper!
Recently I'm getting a pop up message that "Mac OS X can't repair the disk "Genealogy"'. And it needs to be reformatted. It's become a read only disk. When I look in Disk Utility it shows all the partitions as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" EXCEPT for the one in question. I also noticed that there are a lot of files with "date created" being the same date in 1969! These files may be letters I've written or photo's I added to that partition within the last few years.
I think I have to completely reformat the entire external hard drive to repair this, but I want to make sure. Because it's going to be a major hassle backing it all up to another external (having to get one first) and then figuring out how to make the files that have turned "read only" in that one partition, back to their original state! Does this sound right, that I have to reformat the entire external hard drive? And how do I get the read-only files back to their original state.
I have a MacBook Pro with OS 10.6.8 and my browser is Chrome, sorry it is fast and not buggy. I cannot see a TIFF document on my MAC, but my wife sees it on her Windows XP laptop and Internet Explorer 7.[URL]
Type: Last Name = Hetzel Documents = ALL Click SUBMIT
The next page that appears has information I need to see on a document. When I click "Image", the Chrome browser turns black and the "?" appears.

I run an iMac 3.06 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 10.7.3 and I'm having some serious problems with an external drive. Some history first - I have a large iTunes library (~3Tb) of everytype of media which I stored on an external NAS (iomega StorCenter) with no problems - then this NAS started to report a drive error with imminent failure. I purchased a new DAS (Western Digital) drive and moved all my content from the NAS to the DAS and everything was ok. Then I started to get errors through iTunes about cannot find the file and cannot read the files - and then I couldn't access anything on the drive. At this time I thought this was a different problem because I was running preview Mountain Lion, or there was an actual fault with the disk. After investigation, and coughing out for Data Rescue 3 I found that somehow the entire file structure had been corrupted and all my files had been orphaned. So at this point I had one dying NAS drive and one DAS which wasn't usable and no space to recover any files to.
So - next step was to purchase another external drive (and returned the WD) - this time I went for a G-Raid 4Tb (non-thunderbolt) drive and I've been in the process of recovering files from backups and iTunes. I've had no problems until today when yet again I've started getting errors and now I have problems copying files to/from this G-Raid drive.
Technical details - OS-X 10.7.3 - G-Raid 4Tb formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) - currently showing 1,163 folders and 15,452 files.
Symptoms - using finder drag and drop copy a file from the g-Raid to desktop results in 'The operation can't be completed because the item 'xxx' is in use. - 'The operation can't be completed because one or more required items can't be found (error code -43).' and the copy fails.
Using the cp command I get a 'Resource Busy' error. However, this is not for all files - I've managed to copy all my books back to the desktop ok, when a couple came up with the above error I tried again and it copied successfully.
I have run Disk Utility - here are the details :-

and it's just got worse - in getting the info for this post I no longer have access to the drive. This is the second time this has now happened on two different directly connected drives (USB and Firewire) - which means the problem is elswhere. I've a stack of errors in the system.log file

I have my documents folder in my dock. But I don't like the view choices that are provided. I want my documents folder to open in finder automatically. I would prefer not to scroll down to find that option and click on it. Is there any way for my docs folder to automatically open in the finder when located in the dock?

I created an image of an external hard drive to back it up, then I checked it and it opened fine. I moved the file to another drive and initialized the original drive and dropped the dmg file back onto the drive. Now it won't open. I really need the files on that drive. Is there any way at all to open it if even for a short time to retrieve the files?
Since I updated the latest software on 2/2/12, Office For Mac doesn't work correctly. I can not open Excel or Word documents from Office. I cannot save a newly created document. However, I can open an exsisting document by going to the hard drive and double clicking the document I need. I can't save changes I make to the document once opened.
Recently, despite careful file management my internal hard drive has reached its capacity so I purchased a 2TB WD My Book to move many of my files to to make room. After reformatting it (Mac OS Extended Journaling) starting copying stuff over but I struck a problem when I tried copying my iphoto library file over. Its about 47gig and every time i try it begins to copy but then it suddenly stops around 600mb saying it cant read or write something in the file.Is the file too big? Do I need to format the drive it differently? Hopefully not as I've already moved a heap of files over.
A copy of Firefox is already open. Only one copy of Firefox can be open at a time. Understand I am a novice user compaired to most so, here is what I've done so far. Deleted FF in Apps. (trashed)Deleted FF profile (trashed)Attempted stoping any process in the activity monitor(nothing there)Force quit FF (nothing there) Searched every place I can think of for any file named Firefox or Mozilla with no results.cannot find anything in a "profile" that looks FF related Tried re-downloading FF and re-installing(same error prompt) Tried restarting the comp I made the switch to Apple this year because owners and users of Mac seem to very proud of their product, so does Mac according to the price.

I am preparing to upgrade to Mavericks. I want to put a bootable copy of Mountain Lion on an external hard drive so that I may run apps that aren't yet compatible with Mavericks.
I downloaded the Final cut pro x trail today and tryed to open it in downloaded but the program refused and said the problem was that it was not recognized. The program was disk image mounter.
