MacBook Pro :: Takes A Full Minute To Boot Up?

Feb 20, 2010

It takes a full minute to boot up my Macbook Pro 15.4".

I only have 2GB of RAM, but the CPU is a C2D @ 2.4Ghz. Should it take this long?

My MacBook Pro is running very slowly, sometimes more than a minute to open a webpage or access a link on the page.  Using Safari and sometimes it freezes and the force quit window doesn't appear using option-command-escape.  Then only holding down the power button shuts down the computer.

OS X :: When Computer Turn On, Takes About One Minute For All The Items To Appear On The Desktop?

Feb 17, 2010

Had my 2.16 ghz Intel Core 2 Duo 21" for two years. Installed software to monitor temperature, etc. The computer reads 90 degrees when I turn it on and up to 125 degrees after an hour or two.

Another issue, when I turn it on, it takes about one minute for all the items to appear on the desktop and before I can open Safari, Word, etc. (is this a long time??). During this time there is a very repetitive soft clicking sound coming from from the computer, (as if things are opening or being shuffled around?).History: I had Microsoft Office installed but removed it some time ago. Only 10 gb free on the 250 gb hardrive.

MacBook Pro :: Why Is Boot Up Time Almost A Minute

It takes my late 2008 MacBook Pro about 56 seconds to boot up. Is there any way to speed up the process? Keep in mind it recently just had a fresh install of OS X Mavericks, so there isn't that much on here to slow it down.

MacBook :: Is This Boot-up Time Of About 1 Minute Normal

May 5, 2009

I bought my new MacBook Alu., 2GHz, 2GB Ram, with OSX 10.5.6 about 5-6 weeks ago, and was pretty astonished about how long it takes for the thing to boot-up. Approx. 60-70 seconds (just over a minute). My old MacBook (white), with 1,8GHz, 1,25GB Ram, and Tiger, took about only half the time. (About the same number of Apps on both notebooks)Is this boot-up time of about 1 minute normal, or should I contact Apple Service?

IMac :: 27" Wont's Boot Up / Takes A Very Long Time To Boot?

May 15, 2010

I have a 2 week old iMac 27", i7, 2tb Hard Drive, 16gb RM

In the second week the boot up times became very slow.

I would turn the machine on and get the chime within 5 seconds or so.

Then just a black/blank screen.

Eventually after about 10mins I would get a white screen then it would boot up normally.

Now the machine just doesn't get to the white screen. So I get the chime and then just darkness. It does sound like the machine is on (usual quiet imac whirring).

I've tried various key commands when I turn the machine on including pressing C with the install disk in the dvd drive and the alt, control, P, R pram reset.

I've also tried unplugging all the cables, leaving the machine for a minute and switching back on. I did manage to perform the PRAM reset once. I reset the machine and it booted fine.

But now when I switch it on just darkness.

I've called after sales and will try to get the machine replaced but in the meantime is there anything I could try that might make the machine work? I need to do a remix this weekend (deadline Monday) so really need to get it working.

MacBook Air :: It Takes Hours To Boot?

During startup, my Macbook Air 2011 sits at the grey screen with Apple logo and spinning gear for at least an hour before prompting me to log in.In the last few weeks, the time it took to get past the grey screen increase to roughly 10 min, but in the last couple of days its grown even longer. MacBook Pro :: New System Takes 7 Minutes Or More To Boot?

Dec 24, 2009

I'm just not having luck with my last 3 MacBook Pros. My new 2.8ghz 15" now takes over 7 minutes to boot to the login screen. Before this happened, I recently copied 139 GB in sound libraries to my system drive. Before I went to work, I quickly closed the laptop and put in my bag. When I took it out of my bag several hours later, the unit was off and battery practically at full charge. When I started it shortly afterwards, it took forever to boot. It would sit there at the grey screen with the spinning circle, then get to the blue background (just before you get to the login screen) and wait there for a while. Most of the time I think you can hear the hard drive churning.

Once you log on, everything seems to be normal. I'm curious if perhaps that 139GB copy did something to the OS to slow it down. FYI it has 274/ 500 GB of free space left. Perhaps the hard drive didn't have a chance to park when I quickly put the laptop in my bag and I damaged it? To complicate matters, I have the MCE optibay installed with a 320 GB hard drive loaded in it. The only thing I can think of is to back up, and reload the OS. This should tell me if it's software or hardware related.

3. Reset PRAM

4. Boot into Safe Mode

5. Make sure Mac OS X 10.6.5 is the startup disk

MacBook :: Windows 7 Takes Ages To Boot On Unibody Macbook?

Sep 1, 2009

Installing the RC of Windows 7 on my Macbook and everything works perfectly fine however it takes ages to start up. The screen will stay at a black screen with a single blinking white cursor for around a minute when trying to start up the system. This is a windows download straight from MSDN so the windows operating system is clean and nothing fishy is going on.

Anyone else have this issue and/or found a way around it?

MacBook Pro :: It Will Not Boot Due To Full Disk?

I had been trying to cleanup my MacBook Pro as the disk was almost full. However I wasn't thinking tonight and downloaded my mail. When I tried to reboot my laptop, it crashed. I then tried to bring it up in Verbose Safe mode. It tells me the disk is full then turns itself off. Is there anyway I can bring it up in Safe mode long enough to delete some files?

IMac :: Computer Now Takes About 2 Minutes To Boot Up After Installed Snow Leopard?

Sep 2, 2009

Have my iMac since March and absolutely no problem. Installed Snow Leopard this weekend and worked just perfect UNTIL I turned the machine off. The next day restarted my computer and now takes about 2 minutes to boot up/then when screen comes up it is frozen for about another 2-3 minutes before can start using it. So basically, takes about 5 minutes from start up to being able to use my iMac. Spent an hour on phone with Apple on Monday night--they really tried--but couldn't fix it and now want me to bring to local Apple authorize dealer to work on it. Called them and they think it is the hard drive going out. But just doesn't make sense---worked just fine until I loaded 10.6 and then turned off machine. Before I bring it in and have them open it up and fool with the internal hard drive---DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA'S WHAT IS HOLDING UP THE STARTUP.

OS X :: Clicking Noise Every Minute From Macbook - How To Fix It

Jan 22, 2009

Not sure from where in my macbook it's coming, but it started recently. The only thing that changed recently is that i relocated it to a different city, but i don't see why that would cause this. Clicking isn't really the right word to describe the noise...it's like a sweeping click. "Shtock." And it gets louder if i increase the volume on my computer, but it's definitely not coming from any application. And it usually goes off every minute, but sometimes there are breaks of two minutes or so.

MacBook Pro :: Change Desktop Background Every Minute?

Jan 6, 2011

If I change the desktop background in the interval of every one minute, will it have a impact on battery life? I notice there's even an option for every 5 seconds. Surely, Apple must feel confident in the battery life of the MBP if there is such an option. I like seeing a new image every so often, but don't want to sacrifice too much battery. What do you feel is the best setting? Every 5 minutes? 15 min? 30 min? 1 hour?

MacBook Pro :: Battery Drains One Percent Per Minute

Jul 31, 2009

Ok so to start off, my Macbook Pro is around 3 years old. With my original battery having been through 350+ cycles, I had to buy a replacement. So I did some research and found that the Fastmac battery was my best bet for a long-lasting, reliable battery. I would say that Ive had the Fastmac battery for a bout 6-7 months without any problems whatsoever. However, recently Ive been noticing the drastic change in battery life. I installed Coconut Battery yesterday and discovered that my current battery capacity is 2266mAh with the original capacity being 5800mAh and 213 cycles. I also should note that the battery drains 1% a minute with no programs running (besides the Activity Monitor, which showed no strange behavior). Now luckily for me, My Fastmac battery is under a 1 year warranty, however I just wanna verify that it is a fault with my battery and not anything on my Macbook's side causing the battery to drain so quick. The last thing I want is to receive my replacement and then have to go through the same process 6 months later.

Also here is the Battery Information from the System Profiler.
Battery Information:
Battery Installed:Yes
First low level warning:No
Full Charge Capacity (mAh):2266
Remaining Capacity (mAh):1414
Amperage (mA):-1449
Voltage (mV):11421
Cycle Count:213

MacBook Pro :: Retina Hangs In Iphoto 3 Minute?

Jun 19, 2012

My shiny new retina macbook pro took 11 hours to transfer all my files over wireless to the new machine. I thought all software was current, and everything seems to be there.

When  I opened iphoto for the first time, ...I  cannot quite remember the message , but do remember it said  iphoto needed to update and it would take about 3 minutes ??

Well iphoto has given me the grey screen of death. I can see the side bar that is empty and the empty screen in the middle. I left it overnight and it was the same. My library is about 50 GB. I force quit and it now has a progress bar and is now stuck at step 5/  95% for another 30 minutes.
