Jun 21, 2012I did some searching and the posts I found were a few years old so i figured I would ask again for a more rescent answer.I am currently looking to buy a new laptop to replace my junk of a laptop (Dell Mini 10v) that I bought a few years back just to take notes during classes. These days I am looking for something capable of more then just web, email, etc. I am looking to do some programming, video editting and a game once in a while. As nice as they are, I do not need the retina display, so I was considering the 15" priced at $1,799. My questions are as follows.
1: Is it worth it upgrading to the 8gb of ram (was probably going to anyway)?
2: Does the 1680x1050 Hi-Rez screen make much of a difference?
3: As I would most likely be paying either completely with cash or a combination of cash and my Visa (depending how my medical bills are this month), can I get these customizations either directly from the Apple store, or sent to the Apple store from the website so I can pay at the store instead of online. I am really not up for applying for their BarclayCard, although If that is my only option I might just go that route.

What kind of performance boost can I expect if I max out the RAM to 1.5 GB or whatever the maximum is on this model? I'm running Tiger on it and most of my work is simple word processing and web surfing.

Mar 26, 2010I'm trying to figure out the genesis of my problem. Two days ago, I was able to send and receive mail using the Mail app with no problem. Then suddenly last night, I can only send mail using the app. I called Comcast to see if they had a mail server down and they told me it was a problem with my e mail client since I could send and receiving using the Comcast webmail. I don't get it. I didn't change any of my settings and I can send and receive just fine using my iPhone.

Aperture :: Make Folder Appear Automatically In Pictures Area Vs Projects
Jun 22, 2014OK, brand new to Aperture from iPhoto.Not a professional just a frequent traveller with lots of pictures.In iPhoto we had Folders say "Travel" then Sub-Folders like "Turkey" then folders in there for various cities, so "Istanbul" for example.Then inside there we have an album.
Projects is unimportant to us because we do such a good job of organizing our photos, usually at the end of the day, but certainly on the plane ride home.I have Projects hidden in Aperture so that is fine.But today we tried to make a new Folder and it placed it at the bottom of Projects, if we make an album it places it at the bottom of all the other Folders in our Picture library.
Our work around was go back to iPhoto which works the way we want it to.Short of dragging the Folder that Aperture made in Projects down or working in iPhoto is there any other way to make a Folder appear automatically in the Pictures area vs. Projects?

Apr 4, 2010I was importing some photos into Aperture when my battery unexpectedly died (that's a separate issue). I started the computer (a black MacBook) up again and opened Aperture only to have it be momentarily unresponsive followed endlessly by the rainbow spinning ball. Force quitting and restarting gives more of the same.
Any ideas on how I can make Aperture usable again? It's quite important to me.
For what it's worth, I'm running Aperture 2.1.4

Nov 5, 2010Yesterday I completed a 4 hour backup of my 64 Gb iPad on my 11" MBA. I started with 75 GB available before I synced and backed up my iPad and then checked it again after the sync completed and ended up with 67 GB available. I can't figure why I dropped so much storage after everything backed up. I checked my mobile sync folder and can only attribute 2.25 GB as my backup size for my ipad which means I lost an additional 5.75 GB and is being tied up somewhere on my flash drive. Could anyone please give me a suggestion or idea in how I can determine where the extra storage went?

Apr 3, 2012I bought a Mac Book Pro late 2011 2.3 i7 750gb 8gb ram moved the 750 to the optical bay then replaced it with a mushkin 240gb SSD, I love it. except I started using time machine on my 750gb internal drive and have run out of space and I thought I could control the space it uses, surprise surprise. I decided to delete my time machine saves and partition my 750gb Hard drive and when I did I get this message, Partition failed with Error: This operation requires a newer version of Mac OSX for this disk.I looked over the disk and verified and repaired it, The smart status is verified and the partition map scheme is GUID, so on paper everything looks really good.

Jan 23, 2008I tried searching the forums and came up with nothing. I am going to buy a new macbook and trying to decide whether the black macbook is worth the extra $200 dollars. I am going to be buying it from an actual apple store, so i guess i will be getting the base model hdd for the machines. I know that the white comes with 120gb and the black comes with 160gb but that doesn't matter to me at the moment since i can easily upgrade. From your experiences, is it worth to get the black or save the $200 dollars. I am coming from an iBook, so i have dealt with a white computer before.

Sep 12, 2009I bought a MBP 15" at the end of Dec 2007. It has been great for my needs up till now. I went back to college and use it for note taking in my classes. Unfortunately after the first week I found that other then a couple days, I don't have a big enough break between my classes to recharge the battery and during class I am not even near a power outlet. As it is not I get 3-4 hours out of the battery fully charged which covers 1 1/2 classes. I've been thinking of getting an extra battery from the apple online store as my school does provide a discount for it. But it might be more of a pain cause I'd have to charge 2 batteries seperate every night. My other choice is getting an external battery such as Hypermac but it is more expensive to go this route. Is it worth buying the Hypermac or should I buy the extra battery? [URL]

Then today I go to the local apple dealer (in Denmark) and I see the exact same bright line on the MBA screen in the shop. I also checked a unibody Macbook, a white Macbook, and an 24" iMac. None of these screens had the problem - it was only the Air. So now I wonder: is this a feature of the MBA, or was I right in returning it because of this.

Oct 18, 2009Out of curiosity, any reason not to purchase the Apple Care? I know that many people purchase this as an add-on because they want security with their device. I have always been a PC person and have built my super computer and of course, know enough to correct, repair my computer. I'm not saying that I won't know how to repair my MacBook but it seems like Apple Care does a lot more which justifies the cost and purchase. The question is, what is that "extra" benefit or is the hype still just from people who don't know anything about computing and or other reasons. Help me if I'm missing anything here.
