I am concerned about the level of strong criticism about Lion, especially the comments that MS Word and Excel (and Powerpoint?) cannot run in Lion. What is the full story? I know Excel 2008 does not support VB macros, but did anyone notice that "Macros..." is still available under the Tools menu? I wonder why it's there? BTW, I saved an old file in Excel 2008 that had macros and then opened it in Excel 2004 to see if the macros are still there. They are. That's a big relief, because I know I can at least work on files that have VB code in them without worrying that if I save the file in Excel 2008 format the macros will go poof. Ooof
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have been working on an Excel file for the last month continuously saving at every moment. At some point something happened and the file name now included a (version 1) after the original file name. I didn't worry about that because I was able to work on the file and keep on saving my work. I did some changes yesterday and saved it. All of a sudden I got a message that there was an upgrade ready to be installed at night. So I saved the file and did the upgrade. my file was nowhere to be found. I keep looking at Finder and I can only find a file with a similar name not the one with the (version 1) on it. I opened that file but it doesn't include any of the changes and updates I have done in the last month. I never deleted the file and I have double checked on the Trash and its not there. Is there a way to recover my file? The only thing that I did differently was that I completely powered of my mac as opposed to just closing it.

All the usual suspects eliminated: cable modem, router, and traceroute to the server showed no significant lags. All other downloads normal. Sent an email to Apple yesterday, then tried the dl again today. Got this message: "Due to a scheduled upgrade of Apple's support systems, some features of the website are currently unavailable. We apologize for any inconvenience."

It's a law firm we specialize in DUI/DWI and Reckless Driving defense. We subscribe to a data collection service that pulls data from various court systems around the state. We are then given this data by jurisdiction. The Excel files we receive come with 2 workbooks in one file for Traffic and Criminal arrests data with name, address, reason for arrest, etc, etc.
What I have been doing is opening each Excel file and copying and pasting into a new worksheet only grabbing the DUI and Reckless driving arrests because tis is all I am needing from the various files. I then save the new workbook and do a mail merge with Word from this newly created workbook.
Now my question is there such a plugin or software that will combine all the Excel files I receive from the Data collection house and then be able to filter out only the DUI and Reckless Driving arrests to a single Excel Workbook?
1. Turned the List Manager on by accident in Excel. Can't figure out how to turn it off now. I am using Excel 2004, and a MAC mouse - so no right-clicking for me...
2. How do I move columns in Excel? I select the column on top, but then try dragging it to a place I'd like it to move, but nothing happens. How do I do that?
3. General Mac Word/Excel question - how do I get to use "Home" and "End" buttons? When I hit them I simply jump somewhere, but not to the beginning or end of the paragraph. I have a MAC keyboard with the "Home" and "End" buttons along with the "Help", "Delete", "Pg Up" and "Pg Dwn" keys - basically it looks a lot like a PC keyboard...

I was thinking i could write a formula that looks at an RSS feed or website (like yahoo or Google weather) based on the zip code of the address. I could also write the formula that pulls the weather to excel then VLOOKUP the zip. Does anyone have any ideas about this?? I am not sure what to do!!

I recently purchased my first MAC with Excel for Mac 2008. I am unable to open any files created in it on my PC which has Excel 2003. Apple is of no help. They had assured me of compatibility at purchase citing the new open format. The MAC Excel 08 file won't open on the MAC on which is was created with their Numbers program either.

Microsoft is running a deal right now on Windows 7 for students so I would like to pick up a copy and try it out.
Is it possible to run 3 operating systems through Boot Camp 3.0? I am not interested in running a virtual OS.

When I send my .xls files from my Mac (Office 2008) to my boss's Windows machine (Office 2003), he gets an error message when he attempts to open the excel spreadsheet: Excel has encountered an error and must shut down. I've sent files to other computers and not had a problem, and my boss has received other excel files and been able to open them. So it must be something between these two machines/softwares that is affecting it. Any suggestions or ideas? I can add any additional info you need.

This is the hardest decision for me. Do i go with a 4GB setup 11.6 inch laptop or spend the extra 300 to get. better cpu, better battery life, SD reader and More screen re-estate.I don't want the macbook air to be too fast that it will replace my 2007 macbook (which will soon be a mac-mini 2.4GHZ). How are you guys liking your 13 inch vs the 11.6 inch? I see more people at the mac store going nuts over the 11.6 inch.

I started with 75 GB available before I synced and backed up my iPad and then checked it again after the sync completed and ended up with 67 GB available. I can't figure why I dropped so much storage after everything backed up. I checked my mobile sync folder and can only attribute 2.25 GB as my backup size for my ipad which means I lost an additional 5.75 GB and is being tied up somewhere on my flash drive. Could anyone please give me a suggestion or idea in how I can determine where the extra storage went?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI bought a Mac Book Pro late 2011 2.3 i7 750gb 8gb ram moved the 750 to the optical bay then replaced it with a mushkin 240gb SSD, I love it. except I started using time machine on my 750gb internal drive and have run out of space and I thought I could control the space it uses, surprise surprise. I decided to delete my time machine saves and partition my 750gb Hard drive and when I did I get this message, Partition failed with Error: This operation requires a newer version of Mac OSX for this disk.I looked over the disk and verified and repaired it, The smart status is verified and the partition map scheme is GUID, so on paper everything looks really good.

I tried searching the forums and came up with nothing. I am going to buy a new macbook and trying to decide whether the black macbook is worth the extra $200 dollars. I am going to be buying it from an actual apple store, so i guess i will be getting the base model hdd for the machines. I know that the white comes with 120gb and the black comes with 160gb but that doesn't matter to me at the moment since i can easily upgrade. View 12 Replies View RelatedI bought a MBP 15" at the end of Dec 2007. It has been great for my needs up till now. I went back to college and use it for note taking in my classes. Unfortunately after the first week I found that other then a couple days, I don't have a big enough break between my classes to recharge the battery and during class I am not even near a power outlet. As it is not I get 3-4 hours out of the battery fully charged which covers 1 1/2 classes. I've been thinking of getting an extra battery from the apple online store as my school does provide a discount for it. But it might be more of a pain cause I'd have to charge 2 batteries seperate every night. My other choice is getting an external battery such as Hypermac but it is more expensive to go this route. Is it worth buying the Hypermac or should I buy the extra battery? [URL]
