MacBook Pro :: Extra Or External Battery For 15"
Sep 12, 2009
I bought a MBP 15" at the end of Dec 2007. It has been great for my needs up till now. I went back to college and use it for note taking in my classes. Unfortunately after the first week I found that other then a couple days, I don't have a big enough break between my classes to recharge the battery and during class I am not even near a power outlet. As it is not I get 3-4 hours out of the battery fully charged which covers 1 1/2 classes. I've been thinking of getting an extra battery from the apple online store as my school does provide a discount for it. But it might be more of a pain cause I'd have to charge 2 batteries seperate every night. My other choice is getting an external battery such as Hypermac but it is more expensive to go this route. Is it worth buying the Hypermac or should I buy the extra battery? [URL]

I just got a Mac Pro Octo 2.93. It has a 4870 card and 4 1tb drives. I also have a Sonnet E4P e-SATA card installed. Would a 780 Watt 1200 VA surge suppressor be enough?
The other question is about waking the computer up. My old G5 Quad (7800 GT card, E4P card, 2 500gb drives and 8gb RAM) would wake up and while the afore mentioned surge suppressor would beep, the room electrical breaker wouldn't be tripped. Using that same suppressor for the Mac Pro results in the breaker being tripped when the computer wakes up. Would getting a bigger suppressor help with this? In other words, does a unit with a bigger battery capacity allow the battery to take the extra load when the computer wakes up preventing the breaker from tripping?

Somewhat new to Macs. Year old aluminum macbook (not pro) with 160 gb hard drive - "Startup disk full" message - Finder says 159 gb used, 1 gb available. I am sure I could delete some software or photos but will run into same problem later. What is the best solution - put a larger hard drive in or can I use an external hard drive for additional storage (how to do this, will this impact performance). I have a 500 gb external hd for backup - can I use this??

Im encountering space issues when erasing the HD free space! I get a popup message saying that i need to free up more space in order to get the job done. I cant remove any more data from the drive in order to make it more spacious for the free space erasing!
Is there a way i can hook up an external drive so that it will use that extra space?

What do you think about this battery from Batterygeek?
Specs:
130 Wh
16 or 19 volts output
1.7 lbs
This should give 4.5 times the normal operating time. Should be possible to watch demanding movies for about 7 hours, or do less demanding things for 18 hours.
I'm not sure if the voltage is too high or within limits. The Air magsafe seems to output 14.5 volts.

I have an iPhone 4 and am strongly considering buying the MB Air 11.6in. I'd like to get an external battery that I could use for long flights, that in a pinch, could be used with either the iPhone or the MBA.

I'm quite hooked on these little external batteries. I have one that I carry that gives my Droid a few extra charges if I'm out all day, a lifesaver.

This is the hardest decision for me. Do i go with a 4GB setup 11.6 inch laptop or spend the extra 300 to get. better cpu, better battery life, SD reader and More screen re-estate.I don't want the macbook air to be too fast that it will replace my 2007 macbook (which will soon be a mac-mini 2.4GHZ). How are you guys liking your 13 inch vs the 11.6 inch? I see more people at the mac store going nuts over the 11.6 inch.

Yesterday I completed a 4 hour backup of my 64 Gb iPad on my 11" MBA. I started with 75 GB available before I synced and backed up my iPad and then checked it again after the sync completed and ended up with 67 GB available. I can't figure why I dropped so much storage after everything backed up. I checked my mobile sync folder and can only attribute 2.25 GB as my backup size for my ipad which means I lost an additional 5.75 GB and is being tied up somewhere on my flash drive. Could anyone please give me a suggestion or idea in how I can determine where the extra storage went?

) have the store install for $150 (parts and labor)or b) look at a Youtube tutorial to install 2gB ram making the total RAM = 4GB I REALLY need the extra 2GB because of the programs I run (heavy) but don't feel like paying extra for a macbook pro or paying an extra

Is there a way to enable a MBPro give more amperage to PSVita like iPad.. As you know when Mac detects and iPad connected to the USB port, it gives extra 1,5 A over 500mA standard USB port. Could we use the same thing for Sony's PS Vita? Or is this an Apple only feature like Apple backing its own products..

I bought a Mac Book Pro late 2011 2.3 i7 750gb 8gb ram moved the 750 to the optical bay then replaced it with a mushkin 240gb SSD, I love it. except I started using time machine on my 750gb internal drive and have run out of space and I thought I could control the space it uses, surprise surprise. I decided to delete my time machine saves and partition my 750gb Hard drive and when I did I get this message, Partition failed with Error: This operation requires a newer version of Mac OSX for this disk.I looked over the disk and verified and repaired it, The smart status is verified and the partition map scheme is GUID, so on paper everything looks really good.

I tried searching the forums and came up with nothing. I am going to buy a new macbook and trying to decide whether the black macbook is worth the extra $200 dollars. I am going to be buying it from an actual apple store, so i guess i will be getting the base model hdd for the machines. I know that the white comes with 120gb and the black comes with 160gb but that doesn't matter to me at the moment since i can easily upgrade. From your experiences, is it worth to get the black or save the $200 dollars. I am coming from an iBook, so i have dealt with a white computer before.

As i am new to Macs I was googling a bit and came across [URL:..]it has a small part about backing up the mac regularly and mentions "Mac Pro users have extra internal drive bays which are even easier." I have a unibody Mac 13", does this have an extra drive bay that i can shove an extra HDD into? I was thinking of a 500gig.

I bought a 2GB Base 13" macbook air about a week ago, so it's still returnable.I was very happy with it, until I tried to edit a large Excel doc (1500 rows) and the beachball is very frequent with max CPU spikes very often. I see that I have two choices - Swap for a macbook pro and pocket the ?100 difference

Has anybody seen this on their Macbook Air? A very bright, fading line of 6-8 mm at the top of the screen? I just returned my MBA because of this a couple of day ago. Then today I go to the local apple dealer (in Denmark) and I see the exact same bright line on the MBA screen in the shop. I also checked a unibody Macbook, a white Macbook, and an 24" iMac. None of these screens had the problem - it was only the Air. So now I wonder: is this a feature of the MBA, or was I right in returning it because of this.

Out of curiosity, any reason not to purchase the Apple Care? I know that many people purchase this as an add-on because they want security with their device. I have always been a PC person and have built my super computer and of course, know enough to correct, repair my computer. I'm not saying that I won't know how to repair my MacBook but it seems like Apple Care does a lot more which justifies the cost and purchase. The question is, what is that "extra" benefit or is the hype still just from people who don't know anything about computing and or other reasons. Help me if I'm missing anything here.

I'm going to college this fall and I'm buying a MBP. I have been debating whether or not to purchase the base 13" or the base 15". I'm leaning towards base 15" but would the extra screen real estate make a difference for school or would I be better off saving $500 or putting that money towards an SSD, etc. There are a ton of topics on "which MBP" but I haven't found an answer specifically tackling this scenario of screen real estate.

I recently pre-ordered the 2.3GHz MacBook Pro with Retina display with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of SSD. I'm worried that the 256GB SSD is not going to be large enough so I am planning on purchasing an SDXC card (64GB) to help me with some more space.

Is a MBP w/ the same specs of a MacMini worth the extra bucks for its portability? I plan on getting a MacMini + a Netbook (notetaking in class), but I'm also interested in the MBP. I'm taking Comp Sci classes right now so I'll be using Eclipse the netbook which is cross-platform, so the different OS between the MacMini & Netbook won't matter to me. So the MBP (more $$) or a MacMini+Netbook (save $$)? (Edit: With the MBP, I'm talking about the 13" only)

I have a 15" MacBook Pro from a couple of years ago (2.0 GHz) and I am about to upgrade my harddrive from 75 GB to 500 GB (and from 5400 to 7200 rpm). I think I am going to simply clone my harddrive, so I bought an enclosure for my new drive to use when transferring all my data. The enclosure I purchased works with usb 2.0 or eSATA.
My question is, should I take advantage of the eSATA speeds? Do you think it's worth it? For another 50 bucks I could by an expresscard and a cable that will allow me to do the transfer via eSATA. Should I bother or should I just stick with USB 2.0? I hear USB 3.0 is coming out early next year, so I was thinking I shouldn't bother with eSATA (though 50 bucks isn't much of an investment). But I'm not about to wait for USB 3.0 to come out. Do you think it would be worth spending the money to get the extra speed for this transfer? My 75 GB drive is almost full.

I have a problem using my Lexmarkt T620 printer with OS Lion.It prints everything as I want. But it adds at every printed job an additional page with only a few words on it and including information about the printed file. Something like ERID.I've never seen anything like this and I don't want to waste more paper when printing with my Lexmark.

I have installed 4GB of extra ram to my MBP 13" (late 2010) to increase the performance of virtual machines. Though the VirtualBox doesn't recognize the 8GB of ram when i try to create a new machine for Windows XP 32-bit or Windows 7 64-bit. I haven't tried it with other operating systems. I have also reinsalled the VirtualBox but it didn't work.

Ive been waiting and waiting for the iMac to be updated, I held out hope for it at WWDC but we all know how that turned out. My question is 2.3ghz VS 2.6ghz Retina is it worth the extra money? I know you also get another 256gb of space but man $600 is a lot. So it hinges on the 2.3-2.6 upgrade as i think i can live withough the extra disk space. Should i just get the 2.3 and save the money or is 2.6 going to be a noticable difference. Im a graphic designer so ill have illi, photoshop and indesign open at the same time along with itunes, lots of safari, font management and atleast word

I have just completed rescuing a water damaged MB C2D which was originally a 2.16 and is now a 1.83. Fun project for a cold Sunday afternoon. 5 hrs I have one issue with the MB and that is the charging of the battery. The battery icon sometimes shows 'no battery' or if it shows a battery is recognized, it isn't charging. The LED on the mag-safe charger is always green. The battery is from the water damaged 2.16 and my thinking is that it may have suffered damage from being exposed to water. Original owner left the MB in the backyard and it started to rain!
