MacBook Air :: Is It Worth Extra 300 To Go With 13inch?
Oct 27, 2010
This is the hardest decision for me. Do i go with a 4GB setup 11.6 inch laptop or spend the extra 300 to get. better cpu, better battery life, SD reader and More screen re-estate.I don't want the macbook air to be too fast that it will replace my 2007 macbook (which will soon be a mac-mini 2.4GHZ). How are you guys liking your 13 inch vs the 11.6 inch? I see more people at the mac store going nuts over the 11.6 inch.
I tried searching the forums and came up with nothing. I am going to buy a new macbook and trying to decide whether the black macbook is worth the extra $200 dollars. I am going to be buying it from an actual apple store, so i guess i will be getting the base model hdd for the machines. I know that the white comes with 120gb and the black comes with 160gb but that doesn't matter to me at the moment since i can easily upgrade. From your experiences, is it worth to get the black or save the $200 dollars. I am coming from an iBook, so i have dealt with a white computer before.
Is a MBP w/ the same specs of a MacMini worth the extra bucks for its portability? I plan on getting a MacMini + a Netbook (notetaking in class), but I'm also interested in the MBP. I'm taking Comp Sci classes right now so I'll be using Eclipse the netbook which is cross-platform, so the different OS between the MacMini & Netbook won't matter to me. So the MBP (more $$) or a MacMini+Netbook (save $$)? (Edit: With the MBP, I'm talking about the 13" only)
Ive been waiting and waiting for the iMac to be updated, I held out hope for it at WWDC but we all know how that turned out. My question is 2.3ghz VS 2.6ghz Retina is it worth the extra money? I know you also get another 256gb of space but man $600 is a lot. So it hinges on the 2.3-2.6 upgrade as i think i can live withough the extra disk space. Should i just get the 2.3 and save the money or is 2.6 going to be a noticable difference. Im a graphic designer so ill have illi, photoshop and indesign open at the same time along with itunes, lots of safari, font management and atleast word
So I just go a new umb 13 and since opening last week the battery only charges to 99% after the first charge (went to 100% only the first time). I ran it down once to see how long the battery would last and when i recharged it, it says its fully charged but only at 99%. I then tried calibrating it but it once again stop at 99%. It has 3 load cycles so far. Is this normal? if this has been asked before im a newbie to a mac and i tried searching for it but couldnt find anything.
Does new 13" Macbook Pro box include iLife 09 dvd also? Else iLife 09 just installed on the system without any backup dvd? If i want to upgrade to a new hard disk, is cloning the original hard disk only way to retain iLife?
I have a serious problem with my mbp. I can scroll, I can move around the screen, but I cannot click, anywhere. I restarted my computer to no avail. What do I do?
Lets just say that the price didn't matter (it does, though), what would be the absolute best Hard Drive I could put into my 2010 MBP 13"? Now, what are some good drives that are relatively cheap that will work? Should I go SSD or regular?
i need a good usb hub that can be powered off the other usb port on my 13in macbook pro cause i have a portable usb hd that when one usb port wont power it can get power off the other and operate but that claims the other port
I just bought the $1199 Macbook Air (2012). It works great but the start up time from when I hit the power button is significantly slower than my 2011 Macbook air. My 2012 takes about 35-40 seconds to boot-up. My 2011 takes about 15-10 seconds. I have downloaded all the updates and restarted several times but every time its still 35-40 seconds, Is this normal for the 2012's?
I've got the latest MBP 13inch with Vista installed on Bootcamp. I've turned the sound all the way up and it's still very low. I've got all the latest boot camp drivers installed, I've tried viewing different videos trying to see if the video was the culprit, but unfortunately it wasn't. I searched around and I've seen others with this issue, but haven't found a fix.
I've watched the same videos in Leopard that I did in Vista and they're a lot louder.
I'm trying to figure out what happened, and what is wrong, with my computer screen. I know it's not a dead pixel, since it's still visable. It's like a burned image, like you would get on a TV. I didn't do any physical damage to it, I know that for sure. Here's a photo. It's the ghosty off-white area that's on the left hand side of the black rectangle. (I made it back so you can see it better on camera, it's not the problem).Â
I have a MacBook Pro 13inch 2.4GHz (Intel Core 2 Duo, 4Gb RAM, 250Gb HDD, NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics, SD card slot, up to 10 hour battery life) bought in October 2010. The charger has been playing up for a while now - the light going out but coming back on when I move the cable a bit - faulty connection it seems. It has now stopped working at all. Apple UK charge a whopping £65 for a replacement - and the reviews are AWFUL for it, but I can't use my MBP without one.Â
last night my MacBook Pro (13inch early 2011 model) froze on me so I let it be and closed the lid. In the morning it was still frozen. I did a hard restart and got the question mark on a folder icon. I tried everything, resetting PRAM, etc, etc. Northing seemed to work untill I plugged in my external hard drive (used as my time-machine backup) and I got to the re-installation/ utilities / safari / restore from backup screen. In the utilities it saw my external hard drive, but not my internal main drive. Any ideas? I've read hundreds of similar posts and nothing seems to resolve an unseen hard drive. Oh btw I plugged in another SATA HDD and it didnt recognize that either.
I am planning to get the new MBA to complement my imac. Have the original MBP but realized I never use the 'pro' features and instead get irritated by the heat.My plans for use are:- Surfing, email- Some limited web design- WMWare to run some job stuff that doesn't exist on Mac but non graphic intensive, although Vista OS will be the basis.- Some older non too hot games, AoE, Spaceward Ho.- Watch some reruns of CSI on cbs.com- lots of smaller utilities to check web cams etc.
how can you know if the files you receive do not have virus on them e.g on Skype?I do a lot of research when I'm online which exposes me to all sorts of sites so I'm always scared that my laptop might be infected! I was going to then download ClamXav just to scan the files I received, but a lot of people have said that the people who created MacKeeper are behind ClamXav which is really worrying! Is it true?Â
I'm in the market for the 13" model and I'd like to get the 4gb of RAM in the base model. Unfortunately being that I live in California I'll have to deal with 8.25% sales tax on top of the upgraded price of the laptop. This ends up putting me over $1500 for a base 13" with 4gb of RAM. I can get the 13" with the stock 2gb of RAM off Amazon shipped overnight for $1300 and no tax. So is 2gb of RAM really worth ~$225? I have an i7 iMac as my primary machine and realistically don't see doing any heavy work on the Air, but I still like to "futureproof" my hardware if the cost is reasonable regardless. I did test a stock unit at the local Apple Store and I opened about 8-10 apps like mail, iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, Safari, Finder, some QT videos I found on the computer, etc. With all of that open it seemed to run pretty well. Normally I don't have that many apps open at a time.
Ive been wanting to get a macbook air and was waiting for an update. However with the new macbooks, im thinking i can wait for apple to put all the new features (trackpad, display) on the air. Is that ever going happen? jan?
Should I just get an External HD instead of time capsule and save 200 or should I get Time Capsule. Just because I want to get it now so my Hard Drive doesn't fail like it did last tuesday and apple replaced it for free?
Im looking forward to buying the MacBook air soon. But I need some help from you guys! I'm going for the 13" model but is it worth upgrading to 256GB and i7?I'm probably going to be surfing the web (about 6 hours/day), a little but of music, maybe 200 photos, and some apps
I have a 12" ibook G4, and my sister a 1.83 GHz MacBook. She says, she would be willing to help me, by giving me her MacBook in exchange for my ibook G4.My question is, is it worth it ?? Will it be fast ?? The only reason for this, is because I need to use Autocad on Windows. I mean, my ibook G4 is really great after three years
Both the Macbook and HP monitor are set to display Adobe RGB, the HP displays really crisp whites, and the MacBook is yellow in comparison. I'm wondering if all Macbooks display colours this way, or is mine faulty? I tend to work on the larger screen, but it'd be good to have the option to use the small one also.
I've considered buying a calibration tool (an overdue purchase) and/or taking it to the Mac store, it'd be a great help if anyone knows if it's a problem that can be fixed at all.
Wanted to know if the 2005 13inch is compatible with the 2009? Specifically when it comes to interchange of logic boards. What would happen if I put a 2009 logic board in a 2005 body? Are the screens of same nature and are the keys are the keyboard an other functions of same nature? What possible damage could be had to the logic board if I were to go ahead and give this a try? Â
it is possible, but however some of the hardware features may not be supported by Fedora unless the Kernel can be patched such as back-light, iSight etc etc.
Yesterday I completed a 4 hour backup of my 64 Gb iPad on my 11" MBA. I started with 75 GB available before I synced and backed up my iPad and then checked it again after the sync completed and ended up with 67 GB available. I can't figure why I dropped so much storage after everything backed up. I checked my mobile sync folder and can only attribute 2.25 GB as my backup size for my ipad which means I lost an additional 5.75 GB and is being tied up somewhere on my flash drive. Could anyone please give me a suggestion or idea in how I can determine where the extra storage went?
