I am unable to open my finder app. When i click on it and hit, open, a box pops up and says "finder cannot be opened -600, finder was working perfectly earlier today and now i have issues. i have a macbook pro 2.9 ghz, OS x 10.9.4 Â
i opened the console and cleared display, but i am unsure of what else i needed to do, cause that didn't work.Â

I accidentally quit finder instead of Safari this morning and now Finder will not open. I still have it in the dock but nothing will work. I also do not have the toolbar at the top either. I can still open the other icons on the dock and use them so I can get on Safari, Ical, etc. I thought I did this once before but I can't remember what I did to rectify the situation.
View 9 Replies View RelatedSometimes I simply cannot open a new finder window. If I use Command-N or if I choose New Finder Window in the Finder menu, nothing happens. If I am using Command-N, I can see the File heading in the Finder menu bar highlighting, and then after a few seconds the highlight goes, but no window opens. Also, clicking on my Downloads icon in the dock, the dialog opens showing all the files, but if I then click on Open in Finder, the dialog closes but nothing happens. Now that I am writing this message, it all works again! That's what I mean by 'sometimes'. This issue can last for tens of minutes. Secndly, and this is still a problem, my finder Preferences do not stick. So for instance, I don't want to see an icon for my hard disk on the desktop, so I untick this in Finder preferences. The icon disappears. If I now re-start, then it comes back. The same happens for removing the empty trash warning and all of the other Finder Preference tick boxes.Â
Now, when the first problem of not being able to open a finder window suddenly stopped being a problem, the icon for the hard disk suddenly appeared on my desktop. So the two issues are linked. This has been going on intermittently for a few days. I have verified my disk, and repaired permissions.

I tried to hide Finder from the application switcher (⌘ + tab) but this didn't work so well. I edited the 'Info.plist' file for finder.app and I tried restoring, removing the lines etc and this just is not working. Each time I boot my mac even under different users I am greeted by 'Finder quit unexpectedly' and no matter what I select (out of 'Ignore' 'Report' or 'Reopen') it keeps bringing itself to the front of all windows. Should I re-install Mac OS Lion? If so, is there a way for me to keep personal files and applications? Should I visit my Apple store and hope a genius can fix this?Â

I have a Macbook Pro (13") running snow leopard and have a partitioned hard drive (half OS X and half Windows 7). This morning I was using the Mac side and was running low on disk space (very low) so I was moving desktop files into folders to free up some space. I restarted the computer to see what the free space was but the computer stopped/froze at the desktop image (no folders or dock appeared. I restarted the computer many times but the finder never opens and all I see is the desktop wallpaper. I donnected usb drives and put in dvds but the finder never appears so I cn do nothing but shut down and start up.
I ran Disk Utility but it found no problems with the disk. I do not have a backup of the important file forlders on my drive and due to low disk space I am worried to reinstall and archive the OS since there may not be enough disk space to archive (only about 220 mb free on the apple side when I am in windows using bootcamp).

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to Lion- yes, I'm a late adopter- and now, my "Finder" won't open in the dock. I have repaired permissions, and I can "work around it" by clicking on my apple logo and doing a force quit on finder. After I do, the dock icon will work. However, if I then reboot, I'm back to square one.Â

So I've been thinking about how i am going to be using my new MBA as my main machine for a couple of months and i currently use an external monitor with it.
The MBA is advertised to run an external, such as an ACD.
I jut looked at the ports and i find it really strange that the MagSafe connector is on the left, but the mini display port is on the right... Now you will have cables on both sides? How does this work with the set of MagSafe + display port + USB in an ACD? I don't think they are long enough to go around? Or would you have to plus in the other MagSafe and just use the right side for display port and USB. That is silly though.

(Mac Pro G5, Model 5.1 2x2.4 GHz Quad Core with 24 GB RAM OS 10.6.8) Apps that I've been working with started not saving files, trying to open files not working. If I drag and drop a file on the app icon it will open. Sometimes I get a "Could not Open because of a disk read error" and "Could not save because of a disk read error" message. If I do a shortcut Cmd+S file will save or if I close window with out saving, I get the prompt to "save file...OK" and that works. If I go to Page setup, the dialog box comes up but is blank, with a Settings drop down that doesn't really do anything. I've used disk utility to repair permissions,..several times. I have set up another account and get the same results. It seems to be hitting all my apps. I have run techtool pro and everything it can check is fine. I have Sophos Antivirus on this Mac and it finds nothing.
