OS X Mavericks :: Safari Slides To Right And Disappears When Open Another App
Aug 31, 2014When I have Safari open and want to open another app such as Word, when I open Word Safari slides to the right and disappears. When I close the app, Safari reappears. I want both apps to appear on the desktop at the same time. One over the other one.

Nov 10, 2009Is it normal for the Finder to quit using the Cmd+ Q? I thought it needs to be force quit. But of late, sometimes, accidentally if I press Cmd+Q on a finder window, it quits, and does not relaunch either. So to speak, the Desktop disappears. I have to launch Downloads/Documents from the Dock to start the finder running once again. Doesn't seem Mac like. Something wrong, is it? And I recall this started happening after I ran an update for 10.6.1. It was running fine with 10.6.0

OS X :: Menu Bar At The Top Of The Screen Disappears / Using Applications Or Finder?
Jun 29, 2010I am running OS X 10.5. Suddenly today, everything on the screen magnified by about 10 or 15%. When I move the mouse, everything on the screen shifts as the mouse moves, so that I can end up seeing everything on the screen as if through a window. If I move the mouse down, the menu bar at the top of the screen disappears. With difficulty, I can still use the computer but obviously this is an unusable configuration. I have no idea what caused this and I don't have any idea how to fix it. After trying a number of things, I did a Clean Install (Archive and Install) of the OS but this did not help. The phenomenon occurs whether I am in an application or in Finder. Help!

May 9, 2012When using Safari (Safari is the foremost window) and selecting Safari Help from the Help menu of Safari, I see the help window start to fly up from the lifering icon in the dock, and then disappear behind the Safari window. To see the help window, I have to select it form the dock.

Mar 20, 2012For the last two weeks, when using Safari, the top bar which shows the word Safari, File etc (can't remember what it is called) disappears unless I move my cursor up to it. I have checked Safari preferences and System preferences and can't figure out how to stop it from disappearing. I suspect it is a check box.
I have tried to check the "view" option to hide/show and neither solves the problem.

Safari :: Add Bookmark Button Plus Sign Disappears
Jun 30, 2012Safari default appearance includes a plus sign tab beside the address bar to be used to save bookmarks.
My plus sign disappears.
But it reappears when I swap focus to another application. Of course, if another application has focus I don't have immediate access to click the plus sign.
If I click where the plus sign is supposed to be I it gives me the option to save the bookmark but sometimes the file list shows and sometimes the file list does not show.
I have applied all availible Safari updates, including recently using MacOSXUpdCombo10.6.8.dmg.
I thought about re-installing Safari but that is not a quick/easy process. Currently using Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and Safari 5.0.5 (6533.21.1)

Apr 5, 2012Sometimes I simply cannot open a new finder window. If I use Command-N or if I choose New Finder Window in the Finder menu, nothing happens. If I am using Command-N, I can see the File heading in the Finder menu bar highlighting, and then after a few seconds the highlight goes, but no window opens. Also, clicking on my Downloads icon in the dock, the dialog opens showing all the files, but if I then click on Open in Finder, the dialog closes but nothing happens. Now that I am writing this message, it all works again! That's what I mean by 'sometimes'. This issue can last for tens of minutes. Secndly, and this is still a problem, my finder Preferences do not stick. So for instance, I don't want to see an icon for my hard disk on the desktop, so I untick this in Finder preferences. The icon disappears. If I now re-start, then it comes back. The same happens for removing the empty trash warning and all of the other Finder Preference tick boxes.
Now, when the first problem of not being able to open a finder window suddenly stopped being a problem, the icon for the hard disk suddenly appeared on my desktop. So the two issues are linked. This has been going on intermittently for a few days. I have verified my disk, and repaired permissions.

I have just been using Mail, clicked on the red button at the top left to quit, but the mail window just kept disappearing all but about 3mm off the screen to the top and top left and not quitting. I have also had this happen when using Safari, occasionally if I click on a link on the page to another open another page Safari disappears off the top and top left except for about 3mm.

Jun 9, 2012I tried to hide Finder from the application switcher (⌘ + tab) but this didn't work so well. I edited the 'Info.plist' file for finder.app and I tried restoring, removing the lines etc and this just is not working. Each time I boot my mac even under different users I am greeted by 'Finder quit unexpectedly' and no matter what I select (out of 'Ignore' 'Report' or 'Reopen') it keeps bringing itself to the front of all windows. Should I re-install Mac OS Lion? If so, is there a way for me to keep personal files and applications? Should I visit my Apple store and hope a genius can fix this?

Mar 31, 2012I have a Macbook Pro (13") running snow leopard and have a partitioned hard drive (half OS X and half Windows 7). This morning I was using the Mac side and was running low on disk space (very low) so I was moving desktop files into folders to free up some space. I restarted the computer to see what the free space was but the computer stopped/froze at the desktop image (no folders or dock appeared. I restarted the computer many times but the finder never opens and all I see is the desktop wallpaper. I donnected usb drives and put in dvds but the finder never appears so I cn do nothing but shut down and start up.
I ran Disk Utility but it found no problems with the disk. I do not have a backup of the important file forlders on my drive and due to low disk space I am worried to reinstall and archive the OS since there may not be enough disk space to archive (only about 220 mb free on the apple side when I am in windows using bootcamp).

Jun 3, 2012I just upgraded to Lion- yes, I'm a late adopter- and now, my "Finder" won't open in the dock. I have repaired permissions, and I can "work around it" by clicking on my apple logo and doing a force quit on finder. After I do, the dock icon will work. However, if I then reboot, I'm back to square one.

Jul 2, 2010I put off doing the software update on Safari... I just HAD a feeling something would go wrong and I didn't have time to mess with it if it did.
So today I ran and update. And it messed up.
Now Safari will "open"... it looks like it is open and I have access to all the menus. But a Safari window will not open.
I am surprised that I haven't seen others with this problem. I have tried deleting the cache and deleting the preferences file. Neither seem to have made ANY difference.
I'm at a loss as to what to do. And I am feeling like I'm missing a body part. I need my Safari back!
