I just upgraded to Lion- yes, I'm a late adopter- and now, my "Finder" won't open in the dock. I have repaired permissions, and I can "work around it" by clicking on my apple logo and doing a force quit on finder. After I do, the dock icon will work. However, if I then reboot, I'm back to square one.Â

I have recently upgraded my 2009 Macbook Pro to OS 10.7.4. Since then Finder will not open 9 times out of 10. I have to restart Finder in order to get it open and gain access to my files.

Is there a key combination that lets me override that default (if that's what it is) and let's me open it where I want it?Â

When I open a new Finder window, it shows "all my files".Then I click on my home in the sidebar.Then Finder shows my home, but *always* in list view.I open View Options, and check "Always open in icon view". Sometimes I simply cannot open a new finder window. If I use Command-N or if I choose New Finder Window in the Finder menu, nothing happens. If I am using Command-N, I can see the File heading in the Finder menu bar highlighting, and then after a few seconds the highlight goes, but no window opens. Also, clicking on my Downloads icon in the dock, the dialog opens showing all the files, but if I then click on Open in Finder, the dialog closes but nothing happens. Now that I am writing this message, it all works again! That's what I mean by 'sometimes'. This issue can last for tens of minutes. Secndly, and this is still a problem, my finder Preferences do not stick. So for instance, I don't want to see an icon for my hard disk on the desktop, so I untick this in Finder preferences. The icon disappears. If I now re-start, then it comes back. The same happens for removing the empty trash warning and all of the other Finder Preference tick boxes.Â
Now, when the first problem of not being able to open a finder window suddenly stopped being a problem, the icon for the hard disk suddenly appeared on my desktop. So the two issues are linked. This has been going on intermittently for a few days. I have verified my disk, and repaired permissions.

Wasn't this an option previous to 10.7.4? It doesn't work now.When clicking the Finder icon in the Dock, a new Finder window would open? I know about Finder prefs - General - Always open folders in new window but this isn't what I mean.I'd have a Finder window open then want to copy/move something so I clicked on the Finder icon in the dock to get a new window.Every time I clicked the Dock icon, I'd get a new Finder window.

If Finder has been running for a while, and I have a number of finder windows open, when I option-command-w, the Finder crashes and then restarts with all the windows that just closed.Â
Finder was not responding so I did a force quit and now it won't relaunch. I can still open other apps using spotlight. I just can't get to the finder icons and the finder menu bar. When I click the FInder icon in the dock, I get the -10810 error code and a message that says "The application Finder can't be opened"

View 10 Replies View RelatedThis is a switcher question What I miss in Leopard is the ability to open one photo in Finder and then clicking next/previous to access other photos located in the same directory. I know that I can select all the photos I want to view and open them in Preview but I don't like this. In some cases I just dont know in advance all the photos I want to view. The Coverflow browsing is not large enough to view he photos. In Windows, the image preview could do this as well as the Picasa's preview. Is that somehow possible in OSX?

The Finder isn't even indicated as running in the dock, and the only thin the conputer is capable of is opening a few select windows. Every time I attempt to run an app, I get the following warning: You can't Open the Application (null) because it may be damaged or incomplete. That's all the computer can do. I tried to launch Onyx to clean out the baffels, but it just won't launch. The computer only shuts down or restarts by holding the power key down.

Whenever I try to open "Macintosh HD" (my boot drive) the Finder closes. Does anyone know what the solution could be? I was able to run a "verify disk" and it said there were errors so I did a reboot to my Snow Leopard start up disk and was able to repair the errors.
I've googled everything I can think of and can't seem to find anyone else with this issue. I'd rather not have to reimage the machine. Upon further investigation I've noticed that the problem seemed to have started on June 20th. I can access the back-up folders of my Time Machine for "Macintosh HD" for all dates prior but starting on the 20th if I try to access the Macintosh HD backup folder, Finder shuts down just as it does with the current Macintosh HD.
Have a 3 1/2 year old imac with OS 10.5.6 and love it; use it tons.
I was adding some music to my idisk's public folder when the copying process froze;got stuck. The little spinning disc would not go away.
I closed down all other applications. My finder window was frozen with that disc, and could not force quit it, even though tried several techniques to do so. I finally turned off the computer manually.
When I turned my imac back on, the finder window was gone. I cannot open a finder window from the finder image on my dock.
My word documents, Safari, email all work, but my desktop is blank and I cannot open any finder window.
I think that it must have been something that the idisk caused.
My finder does not open up to the Desktop and I cannot find items. Also, when I try to upload a photo in FB or other sites, I cannot find the iPhoto libraries to upload photos.

I tried to hide Finder from the application switcher (⌘ + tab) but this didn't work so well. I edited the 'Info.plist' file for finder.app and I tried restoring, removing the lines etc and this just is not working. Each time I boot my mac even under different users I am greeted by 'Finder quit unexpectedly' and no matter what I select (out of 'Ignore' 'Report' or 'Reopen') it keeps bringing itself to the front of all windows. Should I re-install Mac OS Lion? If so, is there a way for me to keep personal files and applications? Should I visit my Apple store and hope a genius can fix this?Â

In only one of my folders in pictures, a random selection of photos cannot be opened (this happened recently). I get a prompt telling me to use "Get Info" to change the permissions, but even when I go there and unlock the file/change the permissions, I still cannot open the file.

Clicking folders to view the contents always results in a new window opening. This is very frustrating when trying to view a deep path file. I've already gone to Finder Options and made sure "Always open folders in new window" is not selected.
I repaired the disk permissions using Onyx and MainMenu but the problem still occurs.
