May 13, 2010So I was on stick am yesterday and safari started to bog down, then I couldn't scroll or click on anything at all. So I proceeded to go to force quit menu and the cursor froze. I'm new to mac so i'm upset. Do macs freeze often? If its safaris fault doesn't that mean that the OS shouldn't crash anyway

Oct 30, 2010So my installation of OS X decided to stop working correctly today and after some trouble shooting I found I needed to re install. I decided to Archive and reinstall, my backups are not as recent as they should be. During the first reinstall attempt it froze when I tried to view the install log. I now on my second attempt at reinstalling and a again choose archive (this time the option to preserve user setting is greyed out). With the trouble I had my old files should still be there right?

Jun 9, 2010I'm not an expert on OS X, however recently I've been trying to spend more time with the system to learn and possibly switch from W7. The weirdest thing happened last night. I'm was trying to uninstall istat 3.0 from my system and it froze( the beach ball ). After force quiting it, i tried to start Word but the icon would only keep on bouncing and stop after a minute. No error message no nothing. I was sure it's an issue with Office itself, but no other software is starting. Mental Case, UnrarX, Excel, even Ponyvid, just bounce their icon around for 30-40 seconds and wont start. The only software that works are Apple's own Safari, Mail, Calendar , iPhoto and iTunes. They start normally with no fuss. I tried restarting and even creating another user account, and it didn't help. Is it possible that istat 3.0 blew something in the system? If so, what can it be? Anybody had this kind of situation before? Any fix on hand? What should I do next?

Sep 13, 2009Every time I boot up, the computer goes immediately to this screen: In short, I was running leopard, and installed 10.6. Caused problems with Word and system fonts, so I called Applecare, who were of no help and basically told me to contact Microsoft to get the problem fixed. I decided just to do an Archive and Install of 10.5, so that I'd at least have my working system back and in order. Did that, and was going through and drag/dropping folders from the "Previous Systems" folder into my new one on the recently installed 10.5 setup, and the computer froze while some of the library files were transferring. I powered down, and it KP's after time I attempt to turn it back on.

May 27, 2012I have a 2011 Imac and was on the youtube watching a music video when all of a sudden my screen COMPLELETY froze, and a loud clicking noise kept repeating itself nonstop from the speaker, I'm not sure if the sound was coming from the song OR my computer actually making the noise itself. I held down the power button and waited a couple minutes and restarted. The white screen came on with the apple logo, but all of a sudden it completely froze, I waited a few minutes and powered off. I now waited 5 minutes and restarted and it WORKED! Everything seems fine?

Software :: Computer Froze / Safari Just Stay In Loading State
Apr 17, 2010Yesterday my mac (powerbook, running on 10.4.11) froze and after I reset it, Safari doesn't seem to load any pages, it just stays in a "loading" state. Firefox, however, seems to be working fine (as does Mail) so it appears to be a problem with Safari. I tried the following:
1) Restart computer
2) Reset safari
3) Use some dns changer remover utility (saw this in another post, and downloaded utility from CNET, but it failed to find any issues).
MacBook :: Running Hot Due To System CPU Usage?
Jan 18, 2009I've been monitoring the CPU temperatures on my 2 week old alu macbook frequently, and it always hovers at ~42 degrees celsius. However, today something odd happened, all of a sudden the computer was getting noticeable hotter (the fans remained off though), when I checked CPU temp it was up to 72 degrees. I checked with "Activity Monitor" and nothing was using up more than 2% CPU. Then I saw through iStatPro that system CPU usage was at 40%. What the hell? Its usually at 2-5%...i.e. always. After restarting, the system cpu usage was back down to 2% and the temperature slowly dropped back to its norm.

The 2 applications were iTunes and Firefox. on iTunes i just play music and on Firefox im on Youtube or RuneScape. Jun 21, 2010My MBP 5,1 has been a rock solid machine save for a flaky optical drive, but it had been getting extremely hot, especially while gaming. I mean >90 C hot. So today I opened it up to be greeted by a colossal amount of dust and fuzz. Took it outside and thoroughly blew it out; then removed some enormous dust bunnies from each fan housing with a toothpick. Now it's much cooler; I can game all day and never peak above 80 C even on the 9600m GT graphics. So, if you've had your MBP a while and it's running hot, blowing the dust out might do the trick!

Aug 2, 2010I have a MacBook Pro 17 inches (early 2009) with 2.8 GHz C2D and 4GB RAM on it. My OS is 10.6.4 and have all the latest updates installed. I have used this computer for 10 months and now it becomes so slow. I did all the stuffs that may help to speed it up (repair disk permission, repair disk, uninstall unnecessary software, only one user account, get rid of startup items), but none of them seems to work. I even went to the genius bar, but the genius there said there is nothing they can do. They suggested me to upgrade the memory to 8 gig. It will cost me at least 300 bucks to do that!
Don't want to invest that much on a old MacBook Pro. But the thing is, I have a lot of friends using MacBook that has only 1 or 2 gig memory but their computers are still way faster than mine. They can open a lot of programs at the same time but I cannot. If I do, the computer gonna be really sluggish, and sometimes crash. I also don't think it is the problem of the free space on my hard drive since I have a 500GB hard drive and 80GB free space on it. I have already tried to reinstall the system and restore it using time machine backup.

The MBP will start-up, the screen is a light grey, the apple icon comes up, the gear at the bottom is spinning, and spinning, and spinning, and then the screen goes to a light blue and fades, it sits there, then the login screen comes up, I login and then it just continues to sit there. MacBook Pro :: System Running Slow - Need To Clean Install
Sep 13, 2009So I upgraded to Snow Leopard about a week ago, and my Macbook pro seems a little slower and it beachballs now and again. I am wondering if I should do a clean install of Leopard and use that for a while, until SL is updated a few times, or maybe clean install and then put SL onto that. Which do you think is best? My other questions are as follows:
I was doing TimeMachine backups when I was using Leopard, and these have carried on when I was using SL. If I clean install, will I be able to choose just to copy my files over from the TM backup? Is there a way to do a clean install of SL, or do I need to do the Leopard install and then upgrade to SL again.

MacBook Pro :: 17" MBP Unibody - Fans Running Constantly And Reboots System
Oct 24, 2009I need the thoughts and advice from your seasoned Mac people - I have 2 MBP's - 1 15" aluminum, one last years model 17" Unibody (with Black around screen). The 15 has run great since day one. The 17" was ok, but now is locking up and causing me to reboot, fans seem to run on high all the time, and it is very slow to react while using the OS, it gets worse until it locks up. I have upgrade to Snow Leopard thinking that that might fix it, but it has not.
When I got it, I restored from the back up of my 15" using carbon copy cloner. I only imported users and data such as pictures and music. Do you guys think that this is a hardware issue or a or should I back all my stuff up and then blow everything away and reinstall from the ground up with a fresh SL install?
When I called apple they tried to sell me apple care and told me that it was out of the full warranty and if I send it I would to pay for what was not under warranty. SO I am hoping that someone has seen this and has a fix that I can do without having to take it in.

Jun 3, 2014Running OS X (10.9.3) and Safari 7.0.4. Can't print pdf files from Safari and sometimes can't download them either (error says they are corrupted) but I can download from a windows laptop. I found something online about disabling a pdf plug-in, but it was for Lion, so not sure if it's still the correct fix. Also, how to uninstall a plug-in unless you provide exact locations of where the plug-ins are stored.

Jul 27, 2010Have a unibody 17" i7 MBP and get the screen corruption primarily when running Safari 5.0 (whatever the newest build is). Interestingly enough I run a program called gxfCardStatus and if I choose Nvidia rather than Intel (or Auto which = Intel) the corruption goes away. If I choose Intel again the corruption is back. Not sure if this is a hardware issue or just a serious bug introduced by Safari 5.0. I don't remember having the problem before upgrading.

All of the programs, on my computer, that do not require internet access run fine. My firewall is off.

Sep 1, 2014My Safari browser has been running slow since upgrading to Mavericks last fall. Some webpages (Facebook, USAA) won't even fully load, while others load fine. I've read a lot of the other posts about slow Safari and I've tried the other tricks that people have posted (Changing DNS to the Google one, using "Reset" on Safari, turning off extensions and plug-ins) I finally downloaded Chrome and it's just as fast as my safari "used" to be. So it can't be the internet connection because both my phone/iPad browsers are super fast and my MacBook Pro's Chrome is super fast. I just want to go back to using Safari!Â
