MacBook Pro :: System Making Loud Noises / Loud Sound On Start Up ?

Aug 23, 2009

I just bought my MacBook Pro last week. When I power it up, it makes a loud noise for about a second and a half. I think it's the hard drive starting up or the disc drive. I'm not sure which one, but it's pretty loud, so I was just wondering if anyone else noticed this and if it is normal.

MacBook Air :: Fan Now Running Far More Loud

Jun 27, 2010

I have a MBA:
Model Name: MacBook Air
Model Identifier: MacBookAir2,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 1.86 GHz

Recently I have noticed that the fan is now running far more than it ever used to. I only have to call up a couple of web pages and off it goes. The fan almost never used to come on, unless I have really using the processor, so wondering what the likely problem is.

MacBook :: Fan Running Constantly With Loud Noise

Jun 22, 2010

I've just purchased a new Macbook. I'm very happy with it aside from the fan noise, which seems a little loud to me. Now, before I bring it into the Apple Store to have it looked at I just want to check and see if maybe I'm just being overly picky. I downloaded iStat, based on some Google searching I did on the subject and my fans are running around 2000 rpm, which I understand is normal. But in my apartment, which is admittedly quiet, I can hear my fan running constantly. It isn't extremely loud, but it isn't totally quiet either. I'm just wondering what level of noise I should reasonably expect out of my Macbook.

MacBook Pro :: I7 Unusually Hot To Touch - Fans Running Super Loud

Sep 15, 2010

So I got my macbook pro yesterday and I've been doing some basic stuff on it. While I was installing World of Warcraft, the computer jumped up about 101 degrees celcius. I know I shouldn't trust istat pro 100% but still, my fans are running super loud and the computer is very hot to touch. I'm not running any heavy programs or doing any gaming. I had Aol Instant Messenger on, and WoW instaling in the background. I'd like to also add that when opening various programs I get the spinning beachball very often.

Mac Pro :: Fan Running Very Loud?

Aug 15, 2009

Last Night after installing a new hard drive into my mac pro. I reset the system to format the drive. However when i turned it on, Straight from bootup the fan was running extremely fast and sounded like a jet engine. This did not stop through the system fully loading so figured I would turn off the machine for the night and see if the problem would be fixed in the morning. But the same thing just happened again. Does anyone have any idea what this may be, or how to fix it?

Aug 16, 2010

My macbook won't turn on anymore it just gets stuck on the apple logo with the spinny thingie, and I've tried everything to get it to work (safeboot, etc etc). The fans are EXTREMELY LOUD too. I also have a crack on my hinge. I'm thinking of getting the hinge replaced by a secondary person, other than apple. But in the apple care warranty it says:b. Limitations. The Plan does not cover:

Hey guys, got a little issue here. I have had a MBA since about march of this year. Just recently I on two occasions the computer has all of a sudden had this loud high pitch whine. It has only happened twice and at both times (if I remember the 1st time correctly) I wasn't really doing anything on the computer. Today specifically it was just sitting idle on my desk. Not sure where its coming from maybe speakers? Any idea to what this is? Should I be setting up an appointment to see a Mac Genius?

IMac :: Fan Running Super Loud And Screen Turned Off

Sep 14, 2009

I just bought my new IMac on friday. Worked great for a day and then I had a problem. The fan came on really loud for about a good 10 secs and the screen turned off. I hit the power button and the screen came back on quickly like it had went to sleep. However, the fan came right back on very loud and the screen went black. I did this a couple times until I just let it shut down for an hour because I thought it overheated.

The next time I turned it on it worked fine for about 3 hours and suddenly the fan came on super loud. This time the screen didn't shut off and I was able to continue but it was abnormally loud. This morning I turned it on again and within a minute the fan came on AGAIN. I have to mention that I'm not using any intensive application or anything. The last time I think I only had safari up. Also, this is my first mac and it's not looking promising...

Power Mac :: G5 Fans Running And Making Loud Noise Before Crashing?

Mar 24, 2012

I was out of town so this description was second hand but the computer has been running a little weird for a while. When I have too many apps open or on a website that has a lot going on...the computer starts revving up until I quit out of everything and let it slow down. I guess while I was gone, this happened but nobody quit out the apps and it eventually turned the screen black. When I tried restarting it sounds like the computer is working but the screen is black so I can't see if it is booting up or not. I took the monitor into the apple store yesterday and it started up right away for them. It's a cinema 23" I think.

IMac :: Extremely Loud Static Noise / System Crashes To Black Screen

Oct 13, 2009

Very occasionally the screen on my iMac (early 08 24") goes blank and it makes an incredibly loud static sound that's independent of the volume control setting. The power then needs disconnecting to restart the machine. Haven't been able to tie it to any specific program. Apple Care asked I leave it on logged in on a new user account (at the time I originally thought it only happened in sleep mode, but have since discovered this is not the case).

It's happened maybe 3 or 4 times in the same number of months. I've only found one similar case on the net, with someone suggesting it was Safari 4 beta, which I've found not to be the case with mine. It's on extended warranty. I think there's something seriously wrong with it (it's already had the hard drive and power supply replaced).

PowerPC :: System Making Loud Noises / Gray Screen With The Apple Logo At Startup

Jul 12, 2006

I have a Rev A 12 inch Powerbook - 867 mHz, 640 RAM, 40 GB hard drive. The machine's always been reliable and has performed great over the years. I bought it the last week of July, 2003.

Yesterday, the Pbook was shut down, and I press the on button so it would boot up. Almost immediately, the hard drive makes a loud, whirring noise. The computer advances to the gray screen with the Apple logo, but it doesn't get past that point and the noise continues, as if it's a car engine that just won't start...

I'm going to take it to my local Apple Store in the morning, and hopefully the data, including my nearly 22 GB of music, can be saved. Any thoughts on how to get my computer working again? By the way, it's the original hard drive installed. Hopefully this is enough info to generate some ideas, I'm stumped.

MacBook :: Running Hot Due To System CPU Usage?

Jan 18, 2009

I've been monitoring the CPU temperatures on my 2 week old alu macbook frequently, and it always hovers at ~42 degrees celsius. However, today something odd happened, all of a sudden the computer was getting noticeable hotter (the fans remained off though), when I checked CPU temp it was up to 72 degrees. I checked with "Activity Monitor" and nothing was using up more than 2% CPU. Then I saw through iStatPro that system CPU usage was at 40%. What the hell? Its usually at 2-5%...i.e. always. After restarting, the system cpu usage was back down to 2% and the temperature slowly dropped back to its norm.

MacBook Pro :: System Running Hot - Blow Dust Out

Jun 21, 2010

My MBP 5,1 has been a rock solid machine save for a flaky optical drive, but it had been getting extremely hot, especially while gaming. I mean >90 C hot. So today I opened it up to be greeted by a colossal amount of dust and fuzz. Took it outside and thoroughly blew it out; then removed some enormous dust bunnies from each fan housing with a toothpick. Now it's much cooler; I can game all day and never peak above 80 C even on the 9600m GT graphics. So, if you've had your MBP a while and it's running hot, blowing the dust out might do the trick!

MacBook Pro :: System Running Slow And Sometimes Crash

Aug 2, 2010

I have a MacBook Pro 17 inches (early 2009) with 2.8 GHz C2D and 4GB RAM on it. My OS is 10.6.4 and have all the latest updates installed. I have used this computer for 10 months and now it becomes so slow. I did all the stuffs that may help to speed it up (repair disk permission, repair disk, uninstall unnecessary software, only one user account, get rid of startup items), but none of them seems to work. I even went to the genius bar, but the genius there said there is nothing they can do. They suggested me to upgrade the memory to 8 gig. It will cost me at least 300 bucks to do that!

Don't want to invest that much on a old MacBook Pro. But the thing is, I have a lot of friends using MacBook that has only 1 or 2 gig memory but their computers are still way faster than mine. They can open a lot of programs at the same time but I cannot. If I do, the computer gonna be really sluggish, and sometimes crash. I also don't think it is the problem of the free space on my hard drive since I have a 500GB hard drive and 80GB free space on it. I have already tried to reinstall the system and restore it using time machine backup.
