OS X :: System Froze On Reinstalling Attempt

Oct 30, 2010

So my installation of OS X decided to stop working correctly today and after some trouble shooting I found I needed to re install. I decided to Archive and reinstall, my backups are not as recent as they should be. During the first reinstall attempt it froze when I tried to view the install log. I now on my second attempt at reinstalling and a again choose archive (this time the option to preserve user setting is greyed out). With the trouble I had my old files should still be there right?

Mac Pro :: Attempt To Play Back Compositions, Logic Hits A Wall With Certain Sections Indicating "System Overload?

Jul 12, 2010

On the advice of various forum members, I recently upgraded my 2008 Mac Pro to 12 GB of RAM (from 4 GB), in order to solve an issue I was having with Logic. Unfortunately the issue is still present and I am wondering what to do as I've already blown my budget to fix it. I'm hoping someone here can help.

I use the Vienna Symphonic Library through ESX24 in Logic 9, on a 2008 Mac Pro (2.8 Ghz octocore). When I attempt to play back some of my compositions, Logic hits a wall with certain sections, indicating "System Overload. The audio engine was not able to process all required data in time. (-10011)" I did check System Profiler, and all the RAM is being recognized. Is there any way to solve this without new hardware? As a side note, I was wondering how I can add more than 255 ESX24 tracks as Logic seems to cap out at that. Please let me know anything I can try.

OS X :: Uninstall Istat 3.0 From System - Froze - Icon Keep Bouncing

Jun 9, 2010

I'm not an expert on OS X, however recently I've been trying to spend more time with the system to learn and possibly switch from W7. The weirdest thing happened last night. I'm was trying to uninstall istat 3.0 from my system and it froze( the beach ball ). After force quiting it, i tried to start Word but the icon would only keep on bouncing and stop after a minute. No error message no nothing. I was sure it's an issue with Office itself, but no other software is starting. Mental Case, UnrarX, Excel, even Ponyvid, just bounce their icon around for 30-40 seconds and wont start. The only software that works are Apple's own Safari, Mail, Calendar , iPhoto and iTunes. They start normally with no fuss. I tried restarting and even creating another user account, and it didn't help. Is it possible that istat 3.0 blew something in the system? If so, what can it be? Anybody had this kind of situation before? Any fix on hand? What should I do next?

Software :: Kernel Panic Repeatedly After System Froze During SL Install

Sep 13, 2009

Every time I boot up, the computer goes immediately to this screen: In short, I was running leopard, and installed 10.6. Caused problems with Word and system fonts, so I called Applecare, who were of no help and basically told me to contact Microsoft to get the problem fixed. I decided just to do an Archive and Install of 10.5, so that I'd at least have my working system back and in order. Did that, and was going through and drag/dropping folders from the "Previous Systems" folder into my new one on the recently installed 10.5 setup, and the computer froze while some of the library files were transferring. I powered down, and it KP's after time I attempt to turn it back on.

Intel Mac :: 2011 Froze, Restarted And Froze Again?

May 27, 2012

I have a 2011 Imac and was on the youtube watching a music video when all of a sudden my screen COMPLELETY froze, and a loud clicking noise kept repeating itself nonstop from the speaker, I'm not sure if the sound was coming from the song OR my computer actually making the noise itself.  I held down the power button and waited a couple minutes and restarted.  The white screen came on with the apple logo, but all of a sudden it completely froze, I waited a few minutes and powered off.  I now waited 5  minutes and restarted and it WORKED!  Everything seems fine?

OS X :: Reinstalling To Get Clean System - Need To Back Up?

Dec 26, 2010

I want to reinstall OSX for the first time because I mainly want to have a clean system, to get rid of all the files that have not been deleted when I remove some applications. Basically I want all apps removed when reinstalled complete. I've read OSX reinstall its different then windows, but I want to make sure I can do this clean reinstall. I want to know if the other documents and files will remain on my hdd as I don't have an external disc to back up. Also the system/the internet does not run as fast as those in apple store, this may be because of little snitch, hard drive space, or others.

OS X :: SuperDrive Only Reads Disk On Second Attempt

Apr 8, 2009

My MBP has been acting up lately. It seems that whenever I put a DVD into my drive, it sounds like the computer is reading it or attempting to and then spits it back out. When I put the dvd back in a second time, it reads it just fine and mounts it on desktop without any problems. Doesnt seem to matter what kind of dvd it is; game, movie, etc. The SuperDrive only reads it when I put the disk in the second time. I'm running 10.5.6.

Software :: Safari And PDF Crash With Print Attempt

Feb 13, 2009

I have a mac mini G4 with Mac OSX 10.4.11. I have Safari 3.2.1 and Mac Preview version 3.0.9. Beginning last week when I attempt to print a page or article from online using Safari and Firefox the browser crashes. Likewise, when I attempt to print from a PDF file loaded in Mac Preview, the file crashes. I thought it was a printer issue until I realized that I can print Word documents without issue. I have had no problems with printing in the past, but now I do for no good reason. It is curious that printing PDFs and webpages does not work, but printing Word documents does.

Intel Mac :: Mail Not Working After Attempt To Send Large File?

Jun 21, 2012

So the other day I tried to send a large file through the Mail app to a friend. I realized after clikcing send that the file was indeed too large to send since my Mail froze in the attempt of sending it. I used force quit to get out of Mail and opened it again, and then clicked the x button when it started to send again. But then the message was still in my outbox and in my drafts, and Mail would try to update my inbox and drafts but just continue loading. I went to my outbox to delete the message, and when I did a notification popped up that said "The message could not be moved to the mailbox "Trash—On My Mac". The operation couldn't be completed. File exists". Now whenever I open Mail it's the same story, where it attempts to send the message, and then everything's trying to load but never does.(I went to iCloud recently to send a message, and the only remnant of this action was a draft of the message without the file, which I deleted.)

Software :: When Sending Email Outgoing SMTP Server Keeps Being Rejected On First Attempt

Mar 25, 2008

The SMTP server I use for sending email had been working fine up until about a week ago. Although no changes were made to my setup, now virtually every time I send an email, I get the pop-up "Cannot send message using server xxxx".

When click on "Try with selected server" (the same server), it will then usually send okay; sometimes it takes an additional attempt.

Is this some keychain issue or something?

I've deleted the SMTP server and re-entered all the info, but it's still happening.

The SMTP server is the one from my ISP, so they should be okay with it.

MacBook Pro :: Randomly Coloured Pixels Appearing On LED When Attempt To Open Or Preview Media File

Jun 19, 2014

I recently had to switch out the hard drive on my Early 2011 13" MacBook Pro.  When I got the computer back from the Apple Store I began loading my old content onto the machine.  When previewing and opening files, they would appear with randomly coloured splotches of pixels on them.    This continues to happen when browsing folders on my machine.

The files do not show up with splotches on other computers, and are not in the same places each time I open the file, which leads me to believe they are problems with my machine and not the files themselves.

I hypothesise this is the graphics card, but I don't know enough about the hardware.

See examples below.

PowerPC :: Froze Up And Won't Boot

Sep 11, 2008

Basically, I have a 12" 1.33ghz powerbook that's progressively gotten worse over time. The problem started occasionally with the clock drifting and the computer freezing after waking from its sleep. After booting, everything would be fine again and the problem wouldn't happen for a couple weeks or a month. But then it got worse, where it would freeze but wouldn't boot after the first try. This went on for a few weeks, where now it won't even boot anymore. What I get is the boot chime followed by the grey screen without the apple icon. I can still use the reboot key commands, but that's it. Has anyone had a similar problems, know what might be happening or have an idea of how to fix it?
