Apr 28, 2012I run parallels a fair bit for research and my MBP is pretty slow. Took it to genius and he said to get a memory upgrade to 8GB. However, I'm reading everywhere that it can handle 16GB and the Crucial says it is compatible (only £100 ish for this so seems a pretty good deal). All well and good- but will this invalidate Apple care as the max Apple state it can handle is 8GB? Or.....is 8GB going to be enough anyway?

Sep 2, 2009I have three 16gb USB memory sticks that don't work correctly with Snow Leopard. Disk Utility is will only format them in FAT32 format and I'm unable to successfully copy files to and from the sticks.
They work perfectly fine under Windows in Boot Camp and also on my Windows based laptop. Sadly, I purchased them after I had installed Snow Leopard and I don't have access to another Mac with an earlier copy of Mac OS X to test them.
Is this most likely a Snow Leopard anomaly do you think or is it just that these sticks are not OS X compatible?

Jun 12, 2012I ordered a retina MacBook Pro base model. I figured I'd only need 8GB but then after I cast my order into the depths of Apple, I was thinking I should have got the 16GB upgrade. But on one hand, I was wondering if the RAM is user-replaceable or do they solder it on the boards now? I can buy another 8GB stick from a 3rd party.

May 13, 2012I have a late 2011 MacBook Pro with 8 GB of RAM installed - I bought the Corsair memory from Amazon for under $50 and installed it myself. Amazon now has a 16GB kit fro Corsair for only $100 - the least expensive price I've found. The only RAM intensive app I really run is Photoshop CS6,but I do keep a lot of apps open at one time (Acrobat Pro X, Outlook, InDesign CS6, Illustrator CS6, Word, Parallels running XP, iTunes at the moment) and I was wondering if the extra RAM would actually help me out. I'm looking for some advice from people who have already upgraded to 16 GB... can you actually tell a difference?

Jun 12, 2012I just bought a late 2011 17" MBP with 4GB RAM (standard).Having upgraded to Adobe CS6 I am finding the machine impossibly slow, so I figure I need more RAM. Apple says max = 8GB (2x4), but Crucial Memory recommend 16GB "guaranteed compatible". I'm now quite unsure: can I really put 16GB in? Are Apple wrong? If Crucial have sold loads of 16GB kits that can't be used, surely they'd have taken it off their website? Can anyone confirm whether I can put 16GB (i.e. you've actually done it successfully).I'm running Lion 10.7.4

Mar 1, 2012As I wait for my Apple Extreme Base Station, I was wondering if it would make sense to create two different SSID networks. One Mixed b/g for 2.4GHz devices and another one solely for 5GHz. I know my ATV2 supports 802.11n in 5GHz. As I go down my list of devices in my house, I can't tell if my MacBook Pros support the 5GHz. Both MacBook Pros are Mid 2010 models.
The reason for creating two different networks is that the AEBS downgrades your network based on the lowest device (i.e. b/g would be forced on a n device if such device connects to your network).

MacBook Pro :: Supports Hybrid SLI In Windows 7?
Aug 4, 2010For those unaware of what Hybrid SLI is, it allows you to use the integrated and discrete video cards that the higher-end MacBook Pro's come with together simultaneously to get you better performance in graphic-intensive programs and games. I saw an option under the "High Performance" power plan settings that enables Hybrid SLI, but that disappeared after installing the Boot Camp drivers. I found out through a quick Google search that it would be easy to bring the option back, but does the MacBook Pro really support Hybrid SLI now and do you think it would be safe to use it on the MacBook Pro? Hybrid SLI could definitely add a few frames per second when playing games, so it would be a nice addition considering how every MacBook Pro has a mid-range video card.

I would like to get it up to 16 GB, but the cost of me getting that laa at once is a bit prohibitive. Is it possible for me to get an OWC 8 GB kit now and then add two more 4 GB sticks at a later time, or do they have to be matched or paired in some way?
Also, the iMac shipped with 4 GB of ram (on 2x2 GB sticks I am assuming). If I got an 8 GB kit, would it be possible for me to just add the 2x4 GB sticks and have 12 GB of RAM while I wait for more $ to get the rest of the 16 GB?

Aug 8, 2008I get kernel panics after a few min's of running the Mac pro. The ram are perfectly paired (2x 4gb in both slots, both in the first 2) and I get issues with it it seems. It started to happen as of today but didn't happen the days before. Nothing was changed in the configs or software.
