MacBook Pro :: 13" Supports I7 Chip?
Apr 28, 2010
I have an i7 chip and was wondering if the 13" MBP would support it if I popped it in there. Two other questions:
1) Is this release Apple's final update of the MBPs before September (when I go back to school)?
2) Is there a way to get a double or triple external monitor set up with the new MBPs without dropping $200 on a DualHead2Go?

Quick question- not sure how these are categorized but here we go: How do I find the name of my Core 2 Duo chip? i.e. Penryn etc. Checked System Profiler and it didn't say.

A tiny piece of the inside border around the screen on my white macbook chipped off. It's on the far right right above the thing I don't know how to describe it but it looks like this: --------. I don't have warranty or apple care or anything like that anymore but i was wondering how much it would cost to repair. Would it be a quick fix that I can just pick up later in the day? I heard that simple repairs like this cost around 40 or 50 dollars but I don't know really.
I bought my Macbook from someone so I don't have the receipt or anything but I do have some papers from when he went to repair cracks before. I don't know I'm really good with my MacBook since I got it used and it was already sort of beat up. I've never slammed it shut so I don't even know how it cracked.

As I wait for my Apple Extreme Base Station, I was wondering if it would make sense to create two different SSID networks. One Mixed b/g for 2.4GHz devices and another one solely for 5GHz. I know my ATV2 supports 802.11n in 5GHz. As I go down my list of devices in my house, I can't tell if my MacBook Pros support the 5GHz. Both MacBook Pros are Mid 2010 models.
The reason for creating two different networks is that the AEBS downgrades your network based on the lowest device (i.e. b/g would be forced on a n device if such device connects to your network).

For those unaware of what Hybrid SLI is, it allows you to use the integrated and discrete video cards that the higher-end MacBook Pro's come with together simultaneously to get you better performance in graphic-intensive programs and games. I saw an option under the "High Performance" power plan settings that enables Hybrid SLI, but that disappeared after installing the Boot Camp drivers. I found out through a quick Google search that it would be easy to bring the option back, but does the MacBook Pro really support Hybrid SLI now and do you think it would be safe to use it on the MacBook Pro? Hybrid SLI could definitely add a few frames per second when playing games, so it would be a nice addition considering how every MacBook Pro has a mid-range video card.

i am about to upgrade my old harddrive and thought while i have it open i might have a look at the wifi chip on the board? but where is the chip? for about 1 year now my wifi just wont connect to the router unless im like standing right next to it, even sitting on the couch which is litterally just about 2 meters away it still will not connect, at the moment im using a wireless dongle and all is dandy, but if i can just have a look at the board when i have it open i could tinker and see if anything has come loose a bit. Is it possible for something like this to even come loose?

Lucidlogix have a real time GPU balancing solution that can render scenes in real time using BOTH the integrated sandybridge GPU and an ATI or NVidia GPU. If used in the next gen macbook pro it could make the macbook pro a real gaming machine. One little chip on the motherboard could change everything. Everyone email Steve Jobs. Seriously this could be awesome, Alienware performance on a thin Macbook Pro. Make noise bang the internet drum, he may listen. [URL]

3yr old black MacBook has bad memory slot. Will not boot with chip installed. Tried swapping chips and slot 1 or 2 and its the slot. So at least computer works. What are the odds 2nd slot will fail? Is that rare? Is it just a bad solder connection on main board for memory terminal? Or some tiny hidden board trace or other hard to find component?

my Applecare finally expired in January '10. Just before it expired, I had the palmrest/keyboard/trackpad replaced (among other things) for the THIRD time due to the well-known cracking issue. Now that it's expired, I notice that yet again there's a chip missing out of the lower right corner of the palmrest. I know that the newer palmrest/keyboard/trackpad (with the iTunes controls on the F-keys) from the later Macbooks is backward-compatible with mine. Are they any more or less durable than the palmrest from the late 2006 models?

Howdy all, just been scouring the web but can't find anything on this. I have a late 2008 aluminium MB 2.4ghz. I currently have a 500gb HD but want to increase this. Is there a max size/capacity that my model supports or can I go nuts and say put a 1TB inside with no dramas?

I am playing with my new MBP and wanted to know if iCHAT supports talking to buddies from Yahoo Messenger too, just like it does for AIM? I got the AIM one to work, and it says something about something called Bonjour (?) but nothing about Yahoo? Please let me know how to set this up as possible, that way I won't need separate programs for AIM and Yahoo Messenger. PS- Does windows media player have a program for MACs? If not, whats the best program similar to Windows Media Player that I can use to view all the same video types as that?

Apparently, a mini displayport to HDMI can do audio without additional cables if the version is new enough (2.0 I think). How do I find out the version of my Macbook's mini displayport? It's not listed in System Profiler in any place I can find. Also, does it matter what version OS I'm using? I'm still at 10.6.8.

I use MSN (windows live) messenger. Going to switch to Mac soon for college, so I wanted to know if there was any MSN- capable IM program for OSX that supports the webcam of the MacBook.
I heard Adium is a good IM app, but does not support the webcam. Not sure about windows live messenger either.

I just bught my mac mini with 1GB RAM. The only RAM I can afford now is a 2GB single chip, I am wondering if I can put this chip in and leave the original one in for a total of 3GB, or if the RAM has always to be pair numbers. (like 2x2GB, or 1x1GB)

I got this computer off my brother who tried to fix the video problem but was unsuccessful. I would like to set this computer up as a storage/media server.
1. How do I change some the preferences with-out the monitor. (I have ARD and I would like to set it up on this computer.)
I tried to install a ARD client package through TDM but it does not seem to work. ARD does not see the computer on my network so I connected the ibook to my Macbook Pro via ethernet cable and ARD saw it but was unable to connect it.

I already HAVE the new dual 1.25 motherboard AND processor to work with,
So the question really is If I got the dual 1.42 and it's chips and/or board goes,
can I swap the new, working 1.25 motherboard and chip into that machine? If I can't, I'll just keep looking for a more compatible 1.25 dual or a 1.0 or 867mHz machine... I think those 3 models can swap parts.
