Mar 22, 2012My MacBook Pro will not open any app or program that requires Internet, even though I am connected to the web. I recently installed Norton AntiVirus and think it may have changed a setting that I couldn't find. I uninstalled Norton and it didn't help. Every time I open Safari, iTunes or any other program that tries to connect to the Internet, it crashes. Strangely enough, Skype still works, but nothing else. I have OSx 10.6.8.  I have tried erasing plists, and all the standard troubleshooting, ie resetting modem, restarting computer, reloading Safari from disk.Â

Dec 5, 2008I just recently got my first mac, after getting completely fed up with Windows on plenty of pc's i took the plunge and made the switch and have zero complaints or problems thus far.
I used to burn plenty of DVD's on my pc's and my first line of business with the mac was to find a way to continue my collection. From my limited research I found out Toast was the easiest and most straightforward way to burn DVD's. I jumped on it and bought it without looking too far into it(possible mistake in the end?). went to copy a dvd and turns out it does not get through the encryption on DVD's(on current settings).
I'm looking for some help in burning encrypted dvd's. Whether it is another program to break the encryption and allow Toast to burn it, or another program altogether to do it all in
one step

I have found many programs such as MrClean that find duplicates of songs but I do not want to accidentally delete the high quality mp3's or flac files. Is there any program that can do this for me? I would prefer it free but I would be willing to pay 10 dollars or so if the program is legit.

Dec 1, 2014 how does one remove an added "application" directory? Not just delete it, but prevent the OS from always looking there, even when it's gone ? On Yosemite, I tried to be "clever" (hint: I wasn't  and move a few silly apps to a big external USB disk. The idea was I have 1TB internal, 3TB external, and I thought to separate out some apps onto an remote disk so I can disconnect that (thus the hammer version of "now others can't run this app").  And just copying these files to /Volume/Data (the external USB3 drive) functions fine.Â
Mechanically, this disk shuts itself off, and it takes a good 10 seconds to wind up. So whenever I search for an app or start an app *on the main disk*, it seems one ends up searching all "app directories" anyway (I put that in quotes because I presume that's why the disk is spinning up when I run an app that has nothing to do with my external disk).Â
So I decided it was silly to have those apps on the external disk because of the spinup time, experiment failed, I uninstalled the apps.  BUT the disk still seems to need to spin up before starting a new app up even though the app directory on the external disk is gone. Being primarily a linux hacker before I bought this Mac , I would say "you have /Volume/Data in your PATH".  Which is probably the case at some level. But I'm not finding anything to this effect in the system preferences..Â

However, the laptop will spend the whole time running with the lid closed, is there any way to totally turn off the monitor? I can turn the brightness down all the way, but it's still on, seems like a bit of a waste!

Jun 5, 2009When I go back on the computer in the morning, the computer seems to choke on everything - anything I do gets me a beachball (click OK on the "you have been disconnected from AIM" dialog? Beachball. Trying to open a window in an app? Beachball. Trying to open a menu? Beachball). After a few minutes, the computer just freezes and so can't do anything about it. I had to hard reboot and the same thing happens after the start up. This happened a few times, but today was the worst - the computer just froze. I can move the mouse, but that's it. The GUI is totally unresponsive. I had to hard reboot to get out.

It barely holds the top case and bottom case together, and does not "snap" shut until they are less than 7 mm apart. if i turn it upright the two side pop about 5mm apart and do not close until at less than about a 60 degree angle to the desk. Is there a way to remagnetize them, does this warrant a trip to the apple store, or do i just deal with it? The computer is 14/12 months old, manufacturing/purchase.

Apr 19, 2009I have a MacBook Pro 2.4GHz from last Fall (not the new Unibody) that has a keyboard and trackpad that freezes, meaning it becomes totally unresponsive, with no warning for no reason. Either I carry an external keyboard and mouse, or, my only recourse is to hold the power button down and restart the machine. When it reboots, sometimes the keyboard works and sometimes it does not. If other folks have had or are having this problem, would you please step up and say so? I'm tired of Apple support people telling me they have never seen this problem when there are so many others who have written to the forum with the same or similar issues.
