MacBook Pro :: Manually Remove An Installed Program (possible Fishing Virus)?
May 24, 2012
So I downloaded an app from this site but I can't seem to find it, is it possible that I've contracted a phishing virus, if so what are the steps i should take to remove it? [URL]
is attached to word documents. a friend rid it from my husbands resume which he was trying to upload to monster. there doesn't seem to be a program to get rid of it on a mac. so everythng i open just gets infected on my 3 machines. other than taking it to a pc and running the program my friend had, is there a (program) that will allow me to get rid of it? i know it doesn't affect my machine but pcs will not take these docs. I don't work in word, just use it to open client documents and copy into quark.
So, the last few times I've logged into Facebook, several IM chats open up with me having send a couple of my contacts spam. I'm using a mac so I know I haven't installed anything weird, what could it be? I changed my password but I'll see if it continues.
I am going to manually remove each duplicate, but my ? is when you click on show duplicates...is that every copy of that song in itunes or is there still another copy that isn't showing when you select this?
I was switching out a hard drive in an old 12" powerbook and in the process I killed the computer accidently. The problem is that I left a cd in the drive that I'd really like to get out. Is there a method for physically removing it with a paperclip or is there a button I could press within the drive?
So while browsing the internet I have had the computer pop up to alert me that a program has downloaded itself. The first was PerformanceOptimizer which shrunk my screen and "informed me about the dangers of viruses". Then it force downloaded itself and my downloads stack showed me the .exe file. I removed and ran clamXav. Now the same thing happened but today it called itself Antivirus 2009. I force quit Safari and nothing downloaded to my stack. Is this how others here notice these attempts that are aimed at PC users?
I install parallels 1st time on my new Mac Pro. By example on windows I can see by shared folder my mac files like pictures, music, movies, sites, etc. So I think if I get a virus on windows that destroy files, the virus can be delete all my mac files? So scared that I put disconnect all shared folders. Please anybody can tell me something about if any virus can destroy something in my mac by windows with parallels?
OKay so the other day I was on windows live messenger (for mac... on my mac) then I left my computer to go to the bathroom and I still had a convo open, when I came back the person i was talking to said that I had sent her this:
(or something like this....) happynewyearpics. (That's all i remember) The friend I was talking to asked me what it was, I wasn't thinking and I opened it, it led me to some weird website about a quiz to win something.. but then later at 3:30 the other day I wasn't online, or logged in at all but my other friend said that I wasn't even online and that i had sent her this link. I'm pretty sure that I have a virus and I have NO idea how to get rid of it or if I can get virus software.
I know I had one at some point since my world of warcraft account was hacked using one. I've since quit the game and removed all WOW content from my computer but I have no idea where the keylogger originated.. I can assume it was within the wow folder in some addon i carelessly added but I cannot be entirely sure so I was hoping someone could point me in the direction of the best way to ensure that other passwords of mine will not be compromised.
While on the internet i just got a notice saying that my computer is infected. Mac ran a scan and the finder popped up showing the number of trojans in my HD, Local Disk, etc.
I opened finder recently and in the "Shared" column on the left, there was a network I didn't recognize. It has the name of a website on it that I've never been to. When I click "Get info," it doesn't tell me anything. When i try to drag it to the trash, it says it can't be deleted. It's clearly some kind of virus, and it really worries me. Obviously I don't want to open it because I'm worried that would make things worse.
I ma new to Mac and think i might have a virus. every time i select a web page the machine opens various other web pages. How can i check and remove a virus?
Sophos found a PC virus in the attachment to a spam email. I trashed the email, and thought that I had gotten rid of the virus. Sophos tells me, however, that the attachment/virus still exists in the Time Machine back-up of my mail.
How do I remove a specific file (such as an email and attachment) in Time Machine?
I've installed a program on my 2008 Mac Pro (Mavericks) called CyberViewX, which is an application for a 35mm film scanner I recently purchased, a PrimeFilm XE. The program is actually installed in the TWAIN directory tree on the Mac. (Library/Image Capture/TWAIN Data Sources)Â
When I log on to a "regular" admin level account (that is, the account does have administrative privileges) the program will not run; it thinks for a bit, and then says "please run as administrator"Â
If I open a terminal window, drill down to the program executable (it's actually buried quite deeply in the application's directory tree, but no matter), and run the program with a sudo command (sudo ./CyberViewX) and enter my admin password when prompted, the program runs fine.Â
Is there an easier way to do this - that is, to have the program always run with "administrator" privileges, so I don't get the error message. If nothing else, the program is also invoked by other software that came with the scanner; these programs will not work, because they use CyberViewX to actually acquire images, and CyberViewX gives the same "Please run as administrator" error message .
