I have a 15-inch MacBook Pro, the new unibody ones, and I installed Windows XP, using BootCamp.
I made it a 29 or so GB partition, so it used the FAT32 formatting.
The program I tried to install is the eyeQ speed reading program, and the laptop exceeds every single one of the recommended requirements.
The problem comes when I am attempting to install the program, I keep getting an error message in which it says "This program cannot run on a computer with less than 64 megabytes of ram."
Last time I checked my laptop has 4 GB of ram, and it says the same thing when I checked it while running Windows XP.
My only guess, which I made while typing this, was that I should have formatted the Windows partition using NTSF.

I installed the FLAC Tools for Mac OSX a while back onto my machine, which added a program to the command line of "Terminal.app", and allowed me to convert media from and to the FLAC format using the command line, by simply running the command:
flac
in the Terminal. However, now I no longer need the ecoder installed on my computer; the question is, if it's a command line based program

I have an early 2008 15" MBP with a SuperDrive that I never use. Can I simply remove the drive to reduce weight?
Seems that I would drop about 0.4 pounds. Yes. I'm aware of the OptiBays, but I'm more interested in losing weight than adding storage.
I just recently got my first mac, after getting completely fed up with Windows on plenty of pc's i took the plunge and made the switch and have zero complaints or problems thus far.
I used to burn plenty of DVD's on my pc's and my first line of business with the mac was to find a way to continue my collection. From my limited research I found out Toast was the easiest and most straightforward way to burn DVD's. I jumped on it and bought it without looking too far into it(possible mistake in the end?). went to copy a dvd and turns out it does not get through the encryption on DVD's(on current settings).
I'm looking for some help in burning encrypted dvd's. Whether it is another program to break the encryption and allow Toast to burn it, or another program altogether to do it all in
one step
So I removed a program but every 10 seconds this happens

I just removed over 1000 cookies. They were bogging the system down to the point of having some pages freeze. I then closed Safari. I launched Safari again a few minutes later and all the cookies were back, even though the only site I went to was the Apple open page.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have recently started to re-rip most of my music collection in flac but as a result I am ending up with many duplicates. I have found many programs such as MrClean that find duplicates of songs but I do not want to accidentally delete the high quality mp3's or flac files. Is there any program that can do this for me? I would prefer it free but I would be willing to pay 10 dollars or so if the program is legit.

If someone installs a spy-program locally on a computer, how would you go about finding it and/or rectifying the situation? A friend has reason to believe that someone installed software on their OS X computer to gather information. They may or may not have had the password, and she thinks they got on locally. How would she go about finding any such programs installed? She is reluctant to to a clean install (the only suggestion that I could think of).
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have just purchased my first apple. It is a powerbook g4 with leapord. My problem is that I have school projects that need to be done in text edit(apples version of notepad if im correct) I write what i need to write in the program and save it onto my computer. Then upload these saved files into a drop box that is located on my schools website(angel program). But when my professors try to open it. It says no files submited, even though i have submited them. I know it has to do with my apple because when I use microsoft notepad, the files will submit and can be opened. my whole school uses microsoft.
View 2 Replies View RelatedOkay so I wrote earlier about my MacBook randomly restarting. Turns out it is not restarting, it's logging out. So: Randomly when I'm not using the computer (never when I use it) for a long time, it quits the programs and logs out. The Console says this about the time interval:
4/5/09 12:46:41 AM com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.aslmanager) Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds
4/5/09 12:47:03 AM com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.UserEventAgent-LoginWindow[691]) Exited: Terminated
4/5/09 12:47:03 AM com.apple.FolderActions.enabled[699] launchctl: Error unloading: com.apple.FolderActions.folders

I got a phone call from an unknown person saying I have junk on my computer. I then asked if he is from Telstra (my internet provider) and he said yes (not sure if he's lying). Thinking it was a scam i immediately hung up. I am very scared now! Is this real or a scam? If it is real, how do a 'save' my Macbook? Are there any free Mac cleaning systems (legit and no viruses and no scams) I could use?

My mail program seems to be slow. I'm not sure why. I get the spinning ball frequently. I need to save mail messages sometimes for a few years and there are hundreds of emails. Is it better to save them on my computer than my mail program? I may need to retrieve them at some other time so they need to be readable. Is that possible?

So I decided to go through with a clean install of Lion, since my MacBook is filled with unorganized junk and I just felt like getting a fresh start (I've also had connectivity problems with Airport, although it hasn't really bothered me much since I don't mind an old school network cable).I formatted a bootable USB thumb drive with the Lion OS .dmg file, restarted the computer while holding the alt button and selected to boot from the USB. The screen then showed the regular boot screen (whitish background with a grey Apple logo in the middle and a spinning loading icon right beneath the logo). After about 20 seconds, the Apple logo was replaced with a grey stop sign (a circle with a line straight across) and the loading icon kept spinning.
It's been like this for an hour and 20 minutes now, and I need to know what to do. Something is obviously not quite right. Should I remove the USB drive and try to restart the computer? Or just leave the USB drive and try to restart?

I would like to remove duplicate files that are on my computer and I believe that there is an application for this? Also, I want to remove Parallels desktop and all its associated files and programs. Basically, I am cleaning up so I can add photos and music. I want to make sure that when a program is removed all it "hidden" files are also removed.

Ok so I realized that I only have 15 GB left so I went through and moved all the files I want to keep onto a external hard drive then was going to format my HDD, reinstall snow leopard then put the files back, 'cause I thought that formatting it would befaster than deleting over 120GB of stuff in the trash. But I can't find my snow leopard disk so I was thinking of creating a new account then deleting the one I use now. So I guess my question is would this work and will I gain back all of the space on my hard drive.
