OS X :: Controlling Music On Cog Player Via The F Keys / Disabling Itunes From The Keys
Oct 25, 2010
I've been using itunes for a while and it just messed my entire music library up! I've found something that is more Winamp style for me named "Cog". Now my problem is that I want to control it with the F7, F8, F9 keys which are the rewind, play and forward keys, but when pressing any of them it works both on itunes and cog player. How can I disable the Itunes link to it? I want it to control only Cog player.
When I try to use the volume keys on my iMac keyboard (not wireless), it brings in my different desktop windows instead of controlling the volume. However, I can still control the volume using the volume icon on the main desktop - just not from my keyboard. I am not very technical, but I read about resetting the PRAM settings, which I tried.
(Also, earlier in the week, the USB port on the keyboard for my mouse also stopped working, but now it appears to be fine. I'm not sure if this is related or not.) All software is up to date. I am on Mac OS X version 10.5.8.
A few minutes ago I noticed that my MBA's keyboard was not lighting up as it's supposed to. A little experimenting and I found the solution (you may kick yourself, this is so simple): The F5 key decreases keyboard brightness. The F6 key increases keyboard brightness. The icons on these two keys are the clue.
Version 10.6.1 no longer allows use of the space bar to start and stop the currently playing music. Also, the return key can no longer be used to strart a song. I find it very convenient to use the space bar to stop and start the music.

I'm using the thin aluminum USB external keyboard and suddenly my 8ik, diagonal of keys stopped working (now I'm using my laptop keyboard). Anyone know if this is typically a sign of a broken keyboard, or a user issue?
Twisted body, slanted keys, loose keys, battery cover, and freese trackpad. Lets see how many members in this forum is suffering from Apple's poor Quality Control in these new Macbooks!
Is there any app that will allow me to remap keys from my pad to keyboard keys ? For an example if i'll press a button on my pad - the text editor will type in a letter ?
Just recently the music control keys (the function keys 7-9) aren't working, all the other function keys work. The music control keys do not work even if I am in iTunes or if I set it to use function keys as standard function keys then try to fn use it. I just updated to Yosemite on Tuesday, I have turned my computer off twice since then and I restarted it today. I have a Macbook pro with retina.
Info: MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)
We have a 2.4GHz intel Core 2 Duo MacBook. The track pad and "F" keys work but none of the other rows of keys work...any help figuring out how this can be fixed?
For the life of me I haven't been able to get this keyboard to control iTunes, just basic functionality like back, play/pause, skip. Anyone know a way? Running 10.6 on a MacPro.
I used an extension to control iTunes from within the game. It worked much as the media keys do now, with one (great) additional feature: the name of the song you unpaused or skipped to appeared briefly on the screen, Quicksilver style.
I'm loving the media keys but I really miss this feature. Has anyone heard of a plugin that accomplishes this? If not, does anyone know if it's possible or where a starting point for writing such a plugin is?
I'm wondering if there is any way to remap the Itunes fuction keys (Play/Pause, Volume, Prev, Next, etc). I'm not using an apple keyboard and the way OSX has re-maped the functions is really screwy, so I'd like to set them myself. Can it be done through iTunes or does anyone know of any application that will allow this?
Today I received a bluetooth Razr mouse in the mail today and went to connect the device as I would any other. Well when I was playing music in iTunes, the function keys to skip, pause, and every other function key does not work. The volume keys move my windows and pull up widgets. I dont know if the mouse has anything to do with it, but I imagine it doesn't because I disconnected it and the problem remains.
my work MacBook Pro and my own MacBook Air - The media keys have stopped working. Dumping the prefs and restarting haven't worked. The media keys work fine with Spotify though. My software versions are below:iTunes 11.2.2 (3)OSX 10.9.3
iTunes is playing and I hit the play/pause key (F8) the entire keyboard will go dark, but only if I'm pausing. it doesn't do it when I'm hitting the button to resume a song, only when I'm using it to pause one. the backlight sometimes takes minutes to come back on, at random, and sometimes it doesn't and I just have to turn it back on myself.
Very often I need to search a single track in an album and then I start my browsing just from that point, using the arrow keys. i.e. I did like this: select the search filed, type the keywords, select the track, empty the search field, press twice the tab key (one to activate the left column, the second one to activate the tracklist), in order to activate the selection I made and, eventually, use the arrow keys to browse the collection. Since some time ago, once that I've done my search, when I press the tab key, it activate the left column and then the tracklist, but it do not unselect the search field and so, if I use the arrow keys, the menu of the search field appears and there's no way to leave unselected the field.

It appears that the function keys to control iTunes/Quicktime (FF, Play/Pause, and RW) are not working. At one point they did but now it doesn't. All the other function keys are functioning just fine and dandy. I have the "Use F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" unchecked in the preferences. I looked around and there doesn't seem to be any setting that would explain the sudden malfunctioning of the keys. Is there something I may have missed?
I bought some video and audio from itunes and would like to put them to my portable player, but I am failure, whether they have protection or format require?---- how can I convert or transfer those files?
I just got a MacBook Pro and have always used PCs before that. I'm looking for a simple music player that is like WinAmp on PCs. I know that most people use iTunes but I don't need so many functions out of a music player, all I need is something that plays my mp3s, .WAVs, etc without all the fuss and deal with simple playlists.
I feel kind of stupid for not being able to figure this out but I figured someone else has maybe had this issue and knows how to fix it. My BF was messing around on my computer yesterday and somehow the top set of keys on my Apple wireless keyboard got all messed up. None of them are doing what they are supposed to do. Volume, brightness, escape, eject, etc. Nothing works. When I press the F12 button I'm getting my dashboard instead the volume going up. I tried restoring everything to default but nothing seems to be working.
I dropped my laptop and the 1 control key is the only key broken and its now impossible to use the terminal for anything anymore. Is there a way i can remap the control key to something else within terminal?
I have a new MBP 13" and it's been amazing so far. I just experienced this odd issue a few hours ago when I went to lower the volume from my keyboard. In doing so, it didn't alter the volume's level, but launched the actions from the keys on top-left side. Most of the keys in the middle don't even work at all. I tried restarting the MacBook and I'm still experiencing the same problem. It seems that all of the keys on the keyboard are just fine, with the exception of the very top row. Any clue as to how I can fix this and get the keys to do what they're supposed to?
Sorry, lost as in the brightness funtionality does not work anymore but the keys themselves are working as normal function keys OK. After proving my monitor (24inch LED ACD) and cables are OK I have come here to post the problem. Has anybody else had this problem arise since updating to SL on their Mac Pro or after doing any of the updates ? My other machines have been updated and they are OK. (20inch iMac/13inch Alu Laptop. I cannot place when the problem started because I have using a Samsung monitor over the past weeks. All cables are connected as they should be.
New Mac Pro Quad Core Xeon. I want to remap the function keys: F3 (Expose) and F4 (Dashboard). Tried to do so in Expose and Spaces System Pref and in Keyboard/keyboard shortcuts System pref. I Mapped Exp and Dshbrd onto other keys (eg. F18, F19) but the F3 and F4 keys (dedicated Expose and Dashboard keys with icons) retain their original functions - they don't change to blanks. Is there a way to remap or disable those dedicate funtion keys when in an application like PS or AE. I can't seem to be able to change those particularly dedicated keys to work in the applications like other Function keys.
