Is it possible to take advantage of my external monitor's built in speakers when my MBP is plugged into it? (The monitor is a TV as well). If so, what sort of connector do you imagine I'd need?
View 2 RepliesThis only happens occasionally, but sometimes when I have my speakers plugged into my 2010 macbook pro, the sound just dies. If I unplug the speakers the sound comes through the built in speakers, but the only way for me to get the jack to work again is by restarting my computer.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is it a hardware or a software issue?
I've noticed this for a while, but just failed to write about it. Whenever I leave speakers/headphones or anything of that sort plugged into my MBA turned on without anything playing out of them, i hear this very faint beep every couple of seconds. When i turn the speakers off, it turns off, but usually i forget to and come back to hearing this super soft/faint beep. Any clue how to get rid of this? Is this an issue I should consult with Apple? And this happens regardless of whether or not i "mute" sound on my MBA.

I have been using my 13" MBP with a monitor for the past few months now and I just noticed that sometimes I look up at the battery status and it is plugged in and it says in parentheses not charging. I press the button on the side of the MBP and it indicates it is at about 80%. I left the MBP at home all day plugged in and I was wondering if it is doing its own battery maintenance or what.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy boss just gave me a MBP Core I7 2,66Ghz / 4GB Ram, model mid-2010 for the business. It is equipped with Nvidia GeForce GT330M as PCIe video card. If I plug an external monitor, I have, after some time between minutes or hours of work, a weird video problem, which obliged me to power off/on the MBP. Sometimes I even can see my mouse moving, but I can't do anything with it. If I do not use the external monitor I do not have problem. This type of problem appears around 3-4 times a day and make the MBP unusable, as I'm loosing the recent work each time the problem occurred.

I searched the archives and I can't believe no one has mentioned this yet! This is a huge problem on both my Rev A and my new Rev B. When you connect an external monitor and external speakers using the headphone output, there is a high frequency ringing sound coming out of the speakers. I've managed to live with it by turning the treble to minimum and keeping the volume low enough but at the expense of sound quality. The strange part is, if you disconnect the monitor, the ringing sound stops. The problem only occurs if you have speakers and monitor plugged in at the same time. I've tried this on my Samsung monitor, my SONY TV, and my Panasonic audio receiver. The problem occurs with both Rev A and Rev B while my white MacBook and 2007 MacBook Pro all sound fine.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an early 2008 Mac Pro, been running Lion since December. Until last week had no problems. There have been no changes made to the computer, no software added or removed. All of a sudden, when I turn the computer on, audio automatically goes to the speakers on my 24" Cinema Display. When I go into System Preferences I can easily switch it back to my speakers, but it defaults my speakers to full volume, and just to turn the volume down fills the entire house with the 'Apple volume change' sound, until I get it to a reasonable level. So while I have this backwards fix for it, I kind of resent that I have to do all that before I can even get to work on the computer. I tried deleting the plists in Macintosh HD < Library < Preferences < Audio, but when I restart they're back where they were and the audio's going straight to the display again.

I use my MBP 15" (the new one), as my primary machine in my office. I sit by my best usually 10-12hrs a day working on it.
I am trying to figure out what is best to do, keep the AC plugged in or have it un-plugged and only plug it in when the battery is drained (or less then 50%)? I have tried different experiments, plugged in, not-plugged and time is about the same for life of the battery. The true question is, how is is best to do it for the health of the battery.
A bit silly perhaps, but I was curious if anyone has ever considered removing the optical drive on their MBP in order to save weight. If you do not use it, and don't need to attach a 2nd HD inside, can you not just simply remove it and make your MBP lighter?I looked around for some specs on the internal drive but could not find how much it weighed. Anyone know?The gains would be minimal but hey every little bit helps right? I mean if it's a couple hundred grams that's almost half a pound.

View 24 Replies View RelatedI have iTunes 10.6.1 (7) an Airport Extream Version 6.0 Airport Utility (600.92) That I use with two airport express stations, an Apple TV 2nd Generation with latest software up date. Also have Ipad 3rd Generation and two I phone 4's. Issue: After installing the latest Airport Utility software update I'm unable to connect to my remote speakers in iTunes.  The speakers are visible in the pop up menu but iTunes times out when trying to connect. If I use remote to select Apple TV and then via Apple TV select my Computers Library I'm able to play music on the Apple TV / Home Speakers... but still not the Airport Express Stations.Â
When using remote on the iPhone or iPad the speakers are visible as well but I'm unable to select them... iTunes times out. I can steam music from that is on my iPhone or iPad to each individual speaker, but multiple speaker control is not available and the music from my library is not available. I believe the problem is in the Airplay feature of iTunes and I believe the problems arise when you install the latest version of Airport Utility.   You can play on remote speakers, only one at a time, and only if you have the music on a stand alone device (iPhone or iPad)... in summary, bypass iTunes and you can be successful... marginally successful.

Situation: no sound out from speakers in admin and user account and newly created account. Headphones work, startup chimes work on speakers.
Go to Sound in Preferences and only shows Digital Out for output. Should show Internal Speakers. Ran Diskwarrior and Applejack and zapped pram. Took mac apart and confirmed speakers wired correctly which is verified by the start up chimes being audible on the internal speakers. tested all accounts and created new account all with the same results. Did search of Google and MacRumor. Found one unaswered post indicating same problem. Had same problem with another macbook pro, ran same steps, take apart, confirm wiring setup, Diskwarriored, applejacked and zapped pram and it fixed the problem. I'm not sure what else to try. Did check Audio Midi Setup util and it also did not see the internal speakers.

The monitor's audio interface connects to my iMac via the headphone jack on the back of the system.
This may or may not be a stupid proposition, but here it goes: I have a Klipsch Promedia GMX 2.1a speaker system which I like very much. However, I was wondering if I could replace the existing satellite speakers with bookshelf speakers (like Klipsch RB-10 s). View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a fresh install of Windows XP, service pack 2 on a boot camp partition on my macbook (13" first gen aluminum case) and a Apple LED Cinema Display attached to the mini display port.
I can't seem to make the Cinema Display the primary display (the "Use this device as the primary monitor" checkbox is always greyed out in the Display Property Settings tab). I also can't shut the macbook lid and continue to use it closed (with kb, mouse and monitor attached) like I would when booting OSX.
Is there some other way to make the Cinema Display the primary monitor, so I can leave the macbook closed when booting into Windows?
I picked up a new MacBook yesterday and I noticed a weird issue when coming out of "monitor sleep" mode, not regular sleep mode.
When I move the mouse, the external monitor shows what you see in the picture, kinda like a TV with no signal. The MacBook screen works fine so what I just do is unplug and re-plug in the DVI plug and everything is good again.
My 24 inch Dell monitor worked fine with my M1330 and other computers so I know it's not that. Does anyone have the same issue or maybe give me some light on this?
