MacBook Pro :: Video Display Crashes When External Monitor Plugged In

Mar 13, 2012

My boss just gave me a MBP Core I7 2,66Ghz / 4GB Ram, model mid-2010 for the business. It is equipped with Nvidia GeForce GT330M as PCIe video card. If I plug an external monitor, I have, after some time between minutes or hours of work, a weird video problem, which obliged me to power off/on the MBP. Sometimes I even can see my mouse moving, but I can't do anything with it. If I do not use the external monitor I do not have problem. This type of problem appears around 3-4 times a day and make the MBP unusable, as I'm loosing the recent work each time the problem occurred.

Here is the extract of the console at the time of the crash :13/03/12 16:45:51,203com.apple.kextcache/: no supported helper partitions to update.13/03/12 16:47:29,000kernelNVDA(CopyEngine): Channel exception! exception type = 0x27 = CE0:
Unknown Error13/03/12 16:47:29, .....
The problem seems related to NVidia GPU. I've reinstalled everything from scratch without success.

MacBook Pro :: Use Display While Plugged Into G5 As External?

Nov 9, 2010

I have this gorgeous 22" ACD that I have plugged into my G5, where I use it quite often. But my intention for the G5 was to be a server, which it is. I often need some extra display space when I'm doing school work, or coding, so I was wondering if there is a way that I can use the display, while plugged in to the G5, as an external display for my MBP. Preferably something that I could stream over my local network.

OS X :: Macbook Wireless Doesn't Work When External Display Is Plugged In?

Nov 11, 2008

I have a white plastic macbook which appears not to be able to connect to my wireless network. All the other PCs and a Mac Mini in the house connect fine, but the macbook does not.It has connected since i got it, both to the home network and a network in school, but today it promted me for the wireless password, connected a few times but did not give me a IP address, and now will not connect at all! The network appears in the list, i click on it, enter the wireless password, then it says connecting before connection failed.

The network setup is a Cisco router connected to the modem and then connected to the wireless too. There are no computers connected via cable to the network.

MacBook Pro :: Detects An External Monitor But No Display On The Monitor?

Aug 5, 2009

As said, my current set up is an HDMI - DVI cable (HDMI to monitor and DVI to adapter) and my DVI - mini DisplayPort adapter, everything is connected fine but when I turn on the monitor, it says cable not found... and nothing is displayed on the screen but on the Macbook side of things, it sees the monitor is connected (I can extend the screen and leave the screen) but other than that, it appears I cannot get an image on the monitor, pressing every button on the monitor does not work either.

Any other information that may seem necessary, let me know. I tried clearing my PRAM and clearing the power and such but nothing seems to work.

MacBook Pro :: Streaming Video On External Monitor?

I have a Macbook Pro with 17" monitor that I use in my middle school class daily. I have it connected to an external monitor and had no problems until a student fooled with it when I hasn't looking. Now only Power Point works on the external monitor, I am not able to use the iphoto as a slide show any more, nor can I use streaming video. While both show fine on my computer the external monitor only shows my screen saver.

MacBook :: How To Turn Off The Display With External Monitor

Feb 18, 2009

I know that the web have a lot of tips similar to this that i will ask, but i couldn't find no one exactly with what i want

I bought a new monitor, and mini-dvi adapter, an external keyboard and mouse to plug on my macbook

I would like to know how to turn off the macbook display without having to close it. I want to know that because if i don't close the macbook, both displays are on. If i close the macbook, the computer goes to sleep and then i press some keys on keyboard and the mac wake. In that point, if i open my macbook the display is turned off like i want. But i don't want to have to close the macbook all the time, and i don't want to leave the macbook closed because closed the temperature goes high.

MacBook Pro :: External Monitor Display Blurry

Nov 17, 2009

When I hook up an external monitor to the DVI output, and use both the macbook screen, and the external, the display on the external is blurry, and not very sharp. However, when I close the macbook, and run it in clamshell mode, the external becomes very clear, and crisp (like it should). I never use dual monitors, so this really isn't a problem, but want to know if its normal. 2007 Macbook Pro, 2.4, 4 gig ram. Gforce 8600M GT

My Macbook display looks so much sharper. The text on the Dell looks very not anti-aliased...it isn't thick, etc.

MacBook Pro :: Making External Monitor Display Primary?

Oct 10, 2007

I'm thinking about replacing my 24" iMac with a 15" MacBook Pro, however I'd like to keep my 20" dell monitor and use it as the primary display for the MacBook Pro, is that possible? By primary I mean having the dock and everything else on it, with the built-in display being like an external display that I can use for extra space. Also, would the same be possible at all with my iMac?

MacBook Pro :: Won't Find Display Info / Using An External Monitor

Jul 2, 2009

I plan to get a 13" 2.26ghz Macbook Pro, and I have a 20" external monitor with a 1680, 1050 resolution.

First thing, I've barely used OS X, let alone with an external monitor. How well does OS X handle it? Is it pretty simple, and can I set separate backgrounds for each display?

Secondly, will the GPU handle it alright, or will it be sluggish when I hook up the external? I'll mostly be using the 20" to do Photoshop work, with occasional video editing (though I have other computers available to do rendering on.)

MacBook Pro :: External Monitor Attached And Display Closed

Nov 30, 2009

I typed Mac Help about "to operate the portable computer with an external monitor attached and the display closed. When I close the display of my Mac Book or MacBookPro, the external monitor such as my 50" Plasma monitor or video projector would go black. I read the Help and it said and required the USB Mouse and Keyboard to close the Macbook display and put computer sleep. My question is will the Apple blue tooth or wireless keyboard and mice will work with out using the USB? Has any one try that? I am not sure if I should buy wired or wireless to operate this.

MacBook Pro :: Can Not Display External Monitor Under Bootcamp Windows XP?

I have got my new uMBP i7. It is gorgeous, super happy with it . Because I need to run several programs under Windows XP, I have installed Windows XP under Bootcamp. I used Winclone to migrate bootcamp partition from my old MBP to the i7.My problem is that when I linked my external monitor (20 inch ViewSonic) to uMBP using the Minidisplay-to-DIV adaptor from Apple, there is no display on my external monitor. I can set the external monitor as extension of main monitor under "Setting", but after the windows Ding/Done sound, there is nothing on my external monitor. OS X :: Unable To Show 10.6 Install On External Monitor / Grey Box On External Display With Black Bar

Feb 27, 2009

I have a Macbook Pro 2.16 Core Duo, and I'm wanting to install 10.6, but about a year ago, I cracked my screen to the point that I cannot make anything out on it, and haven't replaced it. Instead, I have just been using it in clamshell mode, which has worked out fine so far. My problem is that I cannot get the 10.6 install to show up on my external monitor.

I searched around, and could only find one other similar thread that just ended with the author putting it in clamshell and having it work fine. When I boot to the install and close the screen, I just get a grey box on my external display with a black bar on either side of it. I can't seem to find any other resources, so I'm not entirely sure what to do at this point. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

MacBook Pro :: Audio And Video Via HDMI To External Monitor With Lid Closed

Sep 12, 2014

I would like to run a Macbook Pro Retina (2014) with the lid closed and all video and audio via HDMI routed to an external monitor (Samsung Syncmaster from 2010). Is this possible? When I try this, no sound is transferred to the external monitor and I cannot operate the Macbook Pro with the lid closed. As soon as I close the lid, it cuts the signal to the external screen.  I’ve tried looking for previous posts but they’re about MCP’s connecting via Thunderbolt or DVI.

MacBook Pro :: Internal Monitor Not Turn On But External Display Works

Nov 12, 2009

I have seen people all over the internet saying that their MBP monitor would not turn on, but I have not seen my situation before. I used the computer a week ago (it's a work machine and I'm a part time intern) and both the external and internal monitor worked. I shut it down and when I came back the computer booted up to the external monitor but gave no video on the internal.

I shut down, removed the external monitor (connected by DVI cable) and rebooted. Nothing came up but when I connected the external again it worked fine. This had happened before, but when I shut down and rebooted without the cable connected it came back on immediately. I'm just hoping its not a bad graphics card or something that needs to go in for warranty.

MacBook Pro :: Default Resolution On External Monitor - Proper Display

Feb 3, 2010

I have my MacBook hooked up to an external monitor of 1920 x 1080 resolution. I don't use the MacBook screen at all. Every time I turn on my MacBook it displays on the external monitor as it should, but at the MacBook's 1280 x 800 resolution, which obviously looks nasty and stretched on the big monitor. I fix this by simply putting the Mac to sleep and pressing a key on my keyboard to wake it up again; and it loads in the proper resolution. Is there a way to make it display 1920 x 1080 on boot up without having to sleep and wake every single time? Keeping my MacBook in sleep mode when not in use isn't an option.

MacBook Pro :: External Display - Monitor Doesn't Sleep Properly

Jun 25, 2012

Have a brand new MBP 13" using Thunderbolt-DVI adapter with my old Dell 2405 LCD. Have an interesting scenario ... when the display goes to "sleep" there is still some type of signal coming out of the display port.  The monitor will stay on and just blink "NO SIGNAL DETECTED ON INPUT 2".  But the monitor actually still stays on.When I put the entire laptop to sleep them the monitor will properly power down to sleep mode.

I don't think its the monitor because I've used this monitor with a number of different machines and graphics cards, in every scenario when I had the display set to sleep it powered off just fine.

MacBook Pro :: Dell Monitor Not Working As External Display / Screen Goes Blank

Oct 28, 2009

I have a MacBook Pro 13 for portability to my classes at the university and a Dell 2209WA as an external monitor. One of the few good IPS monitors I could find around for cheap.

The monitor works fine in mirror mode with the MacBook Pro, but as an external display only it does not work. It attempts to wake up and then you see power savings mode again and the screen goes black as if there was no connection. Not sure what exactly the problem here is. Drivers?

The monitor works great with a Mac Mini I have and it works great in mirror but not in external display mode(the lid of the MacBook Pro closed). Anybody know of this issue? The cable is good and the MacBook Pro is not that old(a few weeks).

MacBook :: Unibody Display - Connected To External Monitor - Black Screen

May 7, 2010

Well my unibody macbook display decided to screw up last night, it was working fine last night no problem. Connected to a external monitor. I fell asleep last night with front row left on, obviously it went to sleep and then I woke up and the screen was black. Now the LED lights are working, my external display is also working. The display settings recognize a screen being present (when I click detect displays and gather windows - 2 windows appear). Ive reset PRAM, SMC, reseated the RAM, control+shift+eject (which just made the screen flicker a little after turning it back on) and Im out of ideas. Its out of warranty and about about 18months old.

MacBook Pro :: External Display - Samsung 27' Syncmaster SA550 Monitor Won't Connect To It?

May 2, 2012

I Late 2008 Macbook Pro. My needs have shifted lately, as I am now using it mostly with an external display. I ran it into my 23(?) LG 1080 LED monitor with no problem. I recently bought a Samsung 27' Syncmaster SA550 monitor. I am in love with it, however I cannot find a display size that fits the monitor. I am currently running the 1080p resolution setting on my computer but it is easily 2-3 inches too small. And with overscan its too big to see my menu bar and dock at all. Running at a 24-25' screen size is still much better than my 15 inch macbook pro screen, but it would be awesome to use all of the 27 inches of this monitor. I have been unable to find a working setting, if there is a trick, or a way to setup a custom size As well I am running this as the sole display (not dual screens)
