MacBook Pro :: SMC Firmware Updates For Intel-based Macs?
May 27, 2012
my macbook pro (late 2011) is powering down without warning. I'll be writing an email and w/o warning, it's off. I'm unable to turn it back on with the power button unless i hold it down for a slow count to 10. Fyi - machine is 100% charged when this happens. Two days ago, I did SMC and PRC resets with Apple Care. I needed to do both of these again yesterday on my own.
macbook 1,1 efi and smc up to date, battery not being charged, up to today magsafe led flashed amber green, now solid green but menu bar says battery not charging?
Info: MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.8), 1tb HDD, 1 gb memory.
I've been going on two weeks now without my 13-inch mid-2009 mbp...i installed the 10.7.3. lion update but after it was completed i powered down my laptop and started it up only to find a blinking folder with a question mark...the logic board was replaced in mid-2010...i'm able to boot of an external drive running lion 10.7.3...i replaced the wd hdd with a new one & now it doesn't recognize it in disk utilities...i've replaced the ram with new ram & changed the hdd cable...i took it to apple & they said it should be either the cable or the hdd...i tested the hdd in another enclosure & it's running fine..
Info: MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2009), Mac OS X (10.7.3)
I have a Macbook Pro 13 inch purchased refurbished thru the apple website. Is shows as early 2011 version. Boot Rom MBP81.0047.B27 It came installed with Lion. I have repeated crashes. I want to run hardware test. It will not load from internet and no CD/DVD was provided. If I hold down the D key before startup it eventualy comes up with the normal log in screen.
Info: MacBook Pro (13-inch Early 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.4)
I have a 2006 Intel Macbook with a crashed hard drive. I'm kinda broke right now, so instead of buying a new hard drive I loaded ubuntu 10.4 onto an external hard drive (USB) and tried to boot the macbook from it. (Failed). I hold down option to launch Startup Manager and all it shows me is a cursor (no drives). I know the external drive is bootable because I a) booted the laptop from a LiveCD and used it to create the hard drive and b) I booted a Dell from the external. I've tried moving the drive to a different USB port, but no chips. I don't have anything else connected to the computer.
my question is: Can I boot the macbook from the external hard drive if the internal hard drive is shot?
Just received SuperDrive Firmware Update 3.0, MacBook EFI Firmware Update 1.4, and AirPort Client Update 2009-002 1.0 on Software Update for 13" Unibody MacBook.
I can't get the Firmware updates or any other software updates.I have an old MacBook (2006) which doesn't have an intel chip! and it keeps saying this: The Installer could not validate the contents of the CoreFP package.
I have a late 2008 aluminium macbook, recently "clean" installed snow leopard, everything cool apart from the recurring issue with adobe acrobat pro 9 64bit pdf printer driver, anyway. How do I know whether or not I have the apple firmware updates from this site [URL]. Is there any way of checking or have they just be integrated with the snow leopard install. Also is it still ok the drive makes a noise when you either turn the macbook on and / or when the macbook comes out of sleep. Apple fixed this with a firmware update for the imac and etc, has there been one for the Macbook?
I have a late 2008 alumunium Macbook 2.4GHz, upgraded to 4GB RAM, running Snow Leopard 10.6.2. Due to a kernel panic earlier today I went through the websites shown in this thread: [URL]. As I was doing some of the procedures, I came across a website about EFI and SMC firmware updates for Intel-based Macs shown below: [URL].
According to that website the Boot ROM Version on my late 2008 Aluminium Macbook, should be MB52.008E.B05. Instead it is MB51.007D.B03
If I understand correctly, the support website probably has a typo, because my Macbook is coded Macbook 5,1 and not 5,2. Also on this website: [URL] it says MacBook5,1 will update to MB51.007D.003, which is still not the number I have in the System Profiler. Of course the above website has Mac OS X 10.5.7 as a requirement, so I'm not sure if the number changes in Snow Leopard. I just want to know if the Boot ROM Version in my System Profiler is ok, or if something is wrong.
I'm basically in the same boat as this person in that I need to upgrade from OS X 10.4.11 to 10.5. In my case, I need to upgrade a Mac-mini and two iMacs.
I'm scouring the web for legal copies of OS X 10.5 I can purchase and I've been finding upgrade DVDs being sold in addition to full install DVDs. Both sets of DVDs are official Apple DVDs.
My question: could I use an 10.5 upgrade DVD to do the upgrade or must I use a 10.5 full install DVD? I do realize there is a difference between a 10.5 update DVD vs an upgrade DVD and I'm asking about a 10.5 upgrade DVD..
I'm sure this has been asked before so please forgive me. I have found arguments that say just use Migration assistant to some saying I need to cherry-pick certain items.
Apple may be laying the foundation for TRIM support in future Macs, a technology that should allow their solid state flash drives to maintain optimal performance throughout the life span of the systems. The Mac maker's most recent 13-inch MacBook Pros display an option for TRIM support in their system profilers on SSD-equipped models, one which isn't present in either the second-generation unibody 15-inch MacBook Pros or the latest refresh sporting Intel's Core i5 and Core i7 processors.TRIM is essentially a command that lets operating systems like Mac OS X inform SSDs of which blocks of pre-written data are no longer in use, allowing them to be wiped clean internally.
I am planning to clean install SL on my macMini. I've applied firmware updates as they became available under the "Check for new software" (under the apple). Will I have to reinstall the firmware updates, and how do I do that and how would I know which had to be updated?
Intel X25-M 160GB, how do I find out if it has the latest firmware v1.5 from Dec 8, 2009. And is the Solid State Drive Toolbox v1.3 from Mar 22, 1010 worth downloading?Intel's download/support page doesn't tell you how to know if your SSD has the latest firmware or not.
I am trying to install the new updates for Aperture and iPhoto. When I tell software updates to check for updates, it tells me all my software is current. I know there is a new version of Aperture and iPhoto because I installed them two days ago on a different computer.
Are there any EFI or SMC firmware updates for the "Mid 2007" Mac Mini? It's certainly possible that there were never any updates, but it seems unlikely that they had to update either the EFI, SMC, or both for most Mac models before and after this one. ...unless they just didn't care – it was the Mac Mini after all.
My Mac Mini is having some issues that seem to have been addressed on other models via firmware updates in the past (i.e. loss of responsiveness when connected to a Mac that is using FireWire disk mode, some other performance problems that I haven't yet been able to pin down using normal methods).
[code]...
P.S. If anyone from Apple ever sees this (unlikely), please consider adding MacMini2,1 to the list (even if there are no updates) so that we know the listing was not just omitted in error. It would also be nice (if it doesn't already exist) if there was a page listing the effective version numbers for all models (not just update numbers).
When I turned on my 13 inch Macbook this morning I got a black screen with the message "No bootable disk, insert startup disk and press any key". This has never happened to me before and I am wondering what the cause is and how to avoid it in the future. I got the system to start by pressing and holding down the option key.
When I check for software updates only itunes and random other updates show up but not security updates or safari update. When i check installed updates I realized my last security update was 2011-004 and I still have safari 5.0.6.
Can I get a quick survey of people who installed Intel X-25M and Firmware 1.7 on 2009 MBPs? Please mention if you had any problems or no problems at all.
Would I have to flash the rom of a Mac pro 8800GT to get it to work in a PC? If so, can someone point me to ROM? Also would it get flashed while inserted in the PC?
I'm trying I downloaded th B03 update But it says: "This computer does not need an update" But bootcamp disagrees.Anyone else have this problem, how was did you solve it?
A friend has a G4, can that laptop run OS X 10.whatever? I know nothing about the Apple laptops...does OS X require an Intel based chip? (I assume a g$ is NOT Intel based.)
