I reset smc but fan still running fast.
Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
Intel based iMac ~ 2007 boots to a blank white screen. It will not boot. The problem just started when I attempted to reboot and reset holding SHIFT-CMD-P-R. I'm not all that knowledgeable of tech things on the iMac. But if possible to get the iMac to boot up again what should I do?
iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
1st problem was IMac running slow. Shut down and unplugged several times with no correction. Eventually, shut down, unplug and reboot resulted in wallpaper background eventually coming on screen but no icons. Nothing after that.
iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.4)
i have Snow Leopard 10.6.3 on that and since i update it to latest version with about 8GB download from Software Update my problem is that my fan is always on....
MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3), MC374
The battery on my Macbook Pro says not charging even though green light is lit on the power adaptor. I have reset the SMC and it doens't help. The Macbook stays turned on as long as the adaptor is in, but immeditely shuts off when pulled out.
MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

I have a macbook pro 15, core 2 duo processor, 140 GB hard drive that is almost full.I shut it down last night & now it won't power up. Hear fan but no startup sound, no video, power light is not lit.Would the almost full hard drive (less than 8 GB remaining) interfere with startup?
MacBookPro, Mac OS X (10.7)
my macbook pro (late 2011) is powering down without warning. I'll be writing an email and w/o warning, it's off. I'm unable to turn it back on with the power button unless i hold it down for a slow count to 10. Fyi - machine is 100% charged when this happens. Two days ago, I did SMC and PRC resets with Apple Care. I needed to do both of these again yesterday on my own.
MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

I have a Macbook Pro 13 inch purchased refurbished thru the apple website. Is shows as early 2011 version. Boot Rom MBP81.0047.B27 It came installed with Lion. I have repeated crashes. I want to run hardware test. It will not load from internet and no CD/DVD was provided. If I hold down the D key before startup it eventualy comes up with the normal log in screen.
MacBook Pro (13-inch Early 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.4)
I've been going on two weeks now without my 13-inch mid-2009 mbp...i installed the 10.7.3. lion update but after it was completed i powered down my laptop and started it up only to find a blinking folder with a question mark...the logic board was replaced in mid-2010...i'm able to boot of an external drive running lion 10.7.3...i replaced the wd hdd with a new one & now it doesn't recognize it in disk utilities...i've replaced the ram with new ram & changed the hdd cable...i took it to apple & they said it should be either the cable or the hdd...i tested the hdd in another enclosure & it's running fine..
MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2009), Mac OS X (10.7.3)
I was given a mac book that wouldn't show anything on screen, apple said it had bad logic board. I fixed that by torching the gpu die, and everything is perfect. Except the computer will not charge that battery, says battery 0% "not charging". I tried all the usual, so does anyone know exactly were the smc controller is on the motherboard? I have some ideas And all the cables from the mag safe connecter to the battery, appear good.View 8 Replies View Related
I have a 2006 Intel Macbook with a crashed hard drive. I'm kinda broke right now, so instead of buying a new hard drive I loaded ubuntu 10.4 onto an external hard drive (USB) and tried to boot the macbook from it. (Failed). I hold down option to launch Startup Manager and all it shows me is a cursor (no drives). I know the external drive is bootable because I a) booted the laptop from a LiveCD and used it to create the hard drive and b) I booted a Dell from the external. I've tried moving the drive to a different USB port, but no chips. I don't have anything else connected to the computer.
my question is: Can I boot the macbook from the external hard drive if the internal hard drive is shot?
MacBook, Mac OS X (10.4.11)
I've worked on a lot of macbook and this proposed solution has never once helped me.View 2 Replies View Related

If I need to reset the system on my macbook pro 17", do I use the Firmware Restoration CD or is there something else?
MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.4)
Each time I start up, my 2012 Macbook pro seems to be resetting System Preferences.Things like trackpad, energy settings and mouse preferences have to be re-calibrated each time.
MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)
I'm sure this has been asked before so please forgive me. I have found arguments that say just use Migration assistant to some saying I need to cherry-pick certain items.
Info:PowerMac, Mac OS X (10.4.11), 4 GB Ram
I'm basically in the same boat as this person in that I need to upgrade from OS X 10.4.11 to 10.5. In my case, I need to upgrade a Mac-mini and two iMacs.
I'm scouring the web for legal copies of OS X 10.5 I can purchase and I've been finding upgrade DVDs being sold in addition to full install DVDs. Both sets of DVDs are official Apple DVDs.
My question: could I use an 10.5 upgrade DVD to do the upgrade or must I use a 10.5 full install DVD? I do realize there is a difference between a 10.5 update DVD vs an upgrade DVD and I'm asking about a 10.5 upgrade DVD..
Apple may be laying the foundation for TRIM support in future Macs, a technology that should allow their solid state flash drives to maintain optimal performance throughout the life span of the systems. The Mac maker's most recent 13-inch MacBook Pros display an option for TRIM support in their system profilers on SSD-equipped models, one which isn't present in either the second-generation unibody 15-inch MacBook Pros or the latest refresh sporting Intel's Core i5 and Core i7 processors.TRIM is essentially a command that lets operating systems like Mac OS X inform SSDs of which blocks of pre-written data are no longer in use, allowing them to be wiped clean internally.View 39 Replies View Related
I just switched from a Windows based system to a Mac Pro. How do I get Mac to recognize devices? I have plugged in several external hard drives to download photos, a card reader, and a printer. How do I install these devices? How do I install a printer? They obviously are not "plug and play". What am I doing wrong?
Man, what's up with this? Shut down on my early 2008 MacPro (10.5.7) takes forever! I've tried resetting the PRAM and it did this with earlier versions of Leopard as well. I've reinstalled the OS twice, changed hard drives and wish I could fix this.View 15 Replies View Related
I'm new to this crap and doesn't know if what I am looking for exists. So here we go...
I am looking for a web based Project Management System that is suitable for corporate environment (although I doesn't know what that is but I'm assuming it will be something like social/collaboration tool or like a Wiki or blog even something like Microsoft SharePoint). Basically, it will appear to be a database to process and store document. I need the functionality to content out as PDF and XML. I need functionality to share Microsoft Entourage calender. I also need the functionality to draw Mind Mapping.
Every time I restart my iMac, my desktop wallpaper reverts back to the default and my mouse configuration is reset so the buttons no longer do what I demand of them (Button4: Expose, I say!)
It seems to be just those two issues but it happens pretty much every time the system shuts down (although not every single time). Energy saving is fine. My dock is fine. Nothing else seems to be touched.
I've reset the PRAM. I've deleted the system preferences file from the library (com.apple.systempreferences...). I've repaired permissions.
I still have this problem.
Any ideas or solutions, aside from reinstalling OS X or not restarting my iMac ever?
I should mention that I'm running 10.5.5 on an Aluminum 2.0 Core 2 Duo Intel iMac. My system is all-natural. No fancy hacks or system modification programs installed here.
Are any of the parts from an old G4 useable in an Intel-based MacPro? HD, Super-Drive, RAM, RAM, Power Supply, NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT?

Is smcFanControl still the best to use to increase rpm's on fans for macs? Or is there anything new out? This iMac get EXTREMELY HOT on the top left corner it can burn your hand how bad it is.The atual temps are within limits with istat but that excessive heat on the back left top corner is concerning me. If i keep my hand on it for more then 5 seconds it will actually burn my hand.View 4 Replies View Related
you are running SMC fan control at a low or medium fan setting, that the smc overrides those settings if the Mac starts to overheat and requiring fans to be above those settings? So far I'm using SMC at Medium fan settings, my CPU fan is constantly at 2150 RPM range. Having your Mac cooler than normal for the price of some lower fans is quite worth it, but I'm worried that if I am using a lot of high CPU apps that the fans won't automatically go up, because right now i'm compressing some 7zip archives of old data and the CPU is around 104 F, 2150 RPM fan still, it didn't change one bit from CPU at 90 F idle and 2150 RPM idleView 1 Replies View Related
I am about to sell my current iMac because I have got a new one.
1. I wanted to restore the iMac as new. It originally game with Tiger if I erase the disk, do I have to install tiger, the upgrade to leopard and then upgrade to snow leopard?
2.Is there a way to delete everything except some programs like Photoshop, iLife 09 and iWork?
3.Is there a way to "reset" the iMac so when the buyer turns the computer it starts with the setup and welcome movie?
Would I have to flash the rom of a Mac pro 8800GT to get it to work in a PC? If so, can someone point me to ROM? Also would it get flashed while inserted in the PC?View 3 Replies View Related
When I turned on my 13 inch Macbook this morning I got a black screen with the message "No bootable disk, insert startup disk and press any key". This has never happened to me before and I am wondering what the cause is and how to avoid it in the future. I got the system to start by pressing and holding down the option key.View 1 Replies View Related
I am trying to find how much hard drive space is available on my Intel based 2007 iMac.
iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8), intel iMac
I have a 2007 20 inch Intel core 2 duo iMac and an LG 46" LCD tv. I bought an HDMI cable and a Mini DVI to HDMI adapter but cannot get them to work together. Nothing happens when I click on detect displays in the system preferences.
Do I possibly have the wrong version on Mini DVI, for instance DVI-D instead of DVI-I?
iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
This has been happening a lot lately. I've tried the Apple hardware test and it passed successfully. I reloaded Lion OS X but I still see an occasional problem with program freeze that I never saw before.
