Intel based iMac ~ 2007 boots to a blank white screen. It will not boot. The problem just started when I attempted to reboot and reset holding SHIFT-CMD-P-R. I'm not all that knowledgeable of tech things on the iMac. But if possible to get the iMac to boot up again what should I do?Â

1st problem was IMac running slow. Shut down and unplugged several times with no correction. Eventually, shut down, unplug and reboot resulted in wallpaper background eventually coming on screen but no icons. Nothing after that.

All we are getting is the Appe logo and the rotating wheel and nada.

I have a macbook pro 15, core 2 duo processor, 140 GB hard drive that is almost full.I shut it down last night & now it won't power up. Hear fan but no startup sound, no video, power light is not lit.Would the almost full hard drive (less than 8 GB remaining) interfere with startup?

my macbook pro (late 2011) is powering down without warning. I'll be writing an email and w/o warning, it's off. I'm unable to turn it back on with the power button unless i hold it down for a slow count to 10. Fyi - machine is 100% charged when this happens. Two days ago, I did SMC and PRC resets with Apple Care. I needed to do both of these again yesterday on my own.

I have a 2006 Intel Macbook with a crashed hard drive. I'm kinda broke right now, so instead of buying a new hard drive I loaded ubuntu 10.4 onto an external hard drive (USB) and tried to boot the macbook from it. (Failed). I hold down option to launch Startup Manager and all it shows me is a cursor (no drives). I know the external drive is bootable because I a) booted the laptop from a LiveCD and used it to create the hard drive and b) I booted a Dell from the external. I've tried moving the drive to a different USB port, but no chips. I don't have anything else connected to the computer.Â
my question is: Can I boot the macbook from the external hard drive if the internal hard drive is shot?

I'm basically in the same boat as this person in that I need to upgrade from OS X 10.4.11 to 10.5. In my case, I need to upgrade a Mac-mini and two iMacs.
I'm scouring the web for legal copies of OS X 10.5 I can purchase and I've been finding upgrade DVDs being sold in addition to full install DVDs. Both sets of DVDs are official Apple DVDs.
My question: could I use an 10.5 upgrade DVD to do the upgrade or must I use a 10.5 full install DVD? I do realize there is a difference between a 10.5 update DVD vs an upgrade DVD and I'm asking about a 10.5 upgrade DVD..
I'm sure this has been asked before so please forgive me. I have found arguments that say just use Migration assistant to some saying I need to cherry-pick certain items.

How can I tell if my iMac is intel based?
View 1 Replies View RelatedApple may be laying the foundation for TRIM support in future Macs, a technology that should allow their solid state flash drives to maintain optimal performance throughout the life span of the systems. The Mac maker's most recent 13-inch MacBook Pros display an option for TRIM support in their system profilers on SSD-equipped models, one which isn't present in either the second-generation unibody 15-inch MacBook Pros or the latest refresh sporting Intel's Core i5 and Core i7 processors.TRIM is essentially a command that lets operating systems like Mac OS X inform SSDs of which blocks of pre-written data are no longer in use, allowing them to be wiped clean internally.

Each time I start up, my 2012 Macbook pro seems to be resetting System Preferences.Things like trackpad, energy settings and mouse preferences have to be re-calibrated each time.

I'm new to this crap and doesn't know if what I am looking for exists. So here we go...
I am looking for a web based Project Management System that is suitable for corporate environment (although I doesn't know what that is but I'm assuming it will be something like social/collaboration tool or like a Wiki or blog even something like Microsoft SharePoint). Basically, it will appear to be a database to process and store document. I need the functionality to content out as PDF and XML. I need functionality to share Microsoft Entourage calender. I also need the functionality to draw Mind Mapping.
Every time I restart my iMac, my desktop wallpaper reverts back to the default and my mouse configuration is reset so the buttons no longer do what I demand of them (Button4: Expose, I say!)
It seems to be just those two issues but it happens pretty much every time the system shuts down (although not every single time). Energy saving is fine. My dock is fine. Nothing else seems to be touched.
I've reset the PRAM. I've deleted the system preferences file from the library (com.apple.systempreferences...). I've repaired permissions.
I still have this problem.
Any ideas or solutions, aside from reinstalling OS X or not restarting my iMac ever?
I should mention that I'm running 10.5.5 on an Aluminum 2.0 Core 2 Duo Intel iMac. My system is all-natural. No fancy hacks or system modification programs installed here.
I just switched from a Windows based system to a Mac Pro. How do I get Mac to recognize devices? I have plugged in several external hard drives to download photos, a card reader, and a printer. How do I install these devices? How do I install a printer? They obviously are not "plug and play". What am I doing wrong?

I am about to sell my current iMac because I have got a new one.
1. I wanted to restore the iMac as new. It originally game with Tiger if I erase the disk, do I have to install tiger, the upgrade to leopard and then upgrade to snow leopard?
2.Is there a way to delete everything except some programs like Photoshop, iLife 09 and iWork?
3.Is there a way to "reset" the iMac so when the buyer turns the computer it starts with the setup and welcome movie?
When I turned on my 13 inch Macbook this morning I got a black screen with the message "No bootable disk, insert startup disk and press any key". This has never happened to me before and I am wondering what the cause is and how to avoid it in the future. I got the system to start by pressing and holding down the option key.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMan, what's up with this? Shut down on my early 2008 MacPro (10.5.7) takes forever! I've tried resetting the PRAM and it did this with earlier versions of Leopard as well. I've reinstalled the OS twice, changed hard drives and wish I could fix this.

Does anyone know how to remove 360 Controller Driver Daemon from the Startup Items on an iMac? I downloaded this so I could use an Xbox 360 wireless controller for Onlive but since downloading this I get a conflicting driver error when I load up Onlive. I thought I'd deleted this from my mac but I can still see this sitting in System Information/ Software/ Startup Items but I can't remove from here. It does not display in my System Preferences to allow me to remove from the Startup Items?

My iMac has been crashing a lot lately and finally it's hard drive just up and failed. I have been doing hourly Time Machine backups to a concatenated RAID set (2 USB drives of 1 TB each). However, I think the iMac crashed while backing up and hosed the RAID controller.I've since plugged the two disks of the RAID into my MacBook Pro to see if I can repair them. I can see the individual disks of the RAID in Disk Utility. I can even verify and repair them. But i can't do that with the RAID in the sidebar, and it won't mount on the desktop. When I try to eject it from the DIsk Utility file menu, it says disks are in use.
I'm pretty sure my data on the two disks is intact, but I can't seem to get the RAID to mount as the single concatenated set on a desktop, which makes it inaccessble. Is there a way to repair the JBOD RAID without losing all my data, so I can then restore from the latest backup to my hosed iMac?

Would I have to flash the rom of a Mac pro 8800GT to get it to work in a PC? If so, can someone point me to ROM? Also would it get flashed while inserted in the PC?
