My Mid 2009 MacBook Pro freezes regularly. There does not seem to be any pattern to when this happens. I do not get a grey screen, and it does not freeze for long. I have reinstalled Mavericks, and I have installed new RAM. Nothing I have tried as made a difference.

As the thread title states, ever since I updated to snow leopard, both safari and firefox freeze up when I access the ESPN home page and occasionally a few other sites that I have never experienced problems with before on leopard. However, if i turn off the enable plug-ins button in the safari preferences pane, most of the sites work just fine. I thought it may be flash related but i have since updated the programs it it continues to freeze up on the ESPN page. side note, this happens on both my work and home computers (very different specs between the two).
View 19 Replies View RelatedSo I have a 2009 iMac.Earlier this year, I upgraded to Lion. A little while after this upgrade I started running in to an issue that is now making my computer unusable. When working on graphic or labor intensive activities I am receiving Red Green and Blue pixels around my screen (see picture below) Shortly after this happens, my screen freezes and becomes unresponsive with these pixels still up OR it will completely glitch out, blinking and causing the whole screen to go crazy. Things I have tried so far, rebooting my system from scratch, replacing video card (not cheap )

I have a 2009 Mac Pro that is running 10.10.1. It is using a Radeon 4870 still from the factory. I have had a mostly flawless experience in the last 5 years with the system, but it has lately been displaying graphical problems and then freezing completely. After the display does quirky stuff that I am attaching in the image, I can only move the cursor. No other actions can be performed, and the only option I have is a hard shutdown with the power button. Usually after I do this, the machine will boot with the chime, but no startup screen will ever appear. It just sets blank. The only way I have found around this is to hold the option key, then boot to my primary drive.
I notice this seems to happen after the computer has woken from sleep. But, the issue originally appeared for the first time after updating to the newest Logitech Control panel for my mouse. I thought it was that, so I removed it and am no longer using that at all. The issue still exists.

My MacBook Pro OS 10.9.4 regularly "loses" my home printer, set up through my WIFI. Even though I can see it in the Printer Menu, it claims I am not connected. So, I delete said printer. When I go to add a new printer, it cannot find said printer and I cannot figure out how to manually tell it that it is sitting right here on my desk.

I have, what seems to be a common, an issue with pop up tabs regularly appearing across all browsers advertising 'MacKeeper'. I understand this is a trojan or malware.
I have tried to combat the problem by removing various files as suggested on other threads, removed extensions from my browsers, and today re installed OS X on the recommendation of Apple's online chat team, but am still experiencing the issue.

I am on the latest update of Snow Leopard. It seems that if I leave the computer to go to the screensaver automatically, chances are that it may crash. I haven't changed my energy saver preferences for months - so if it is related to that it's not something I've changed.Looking in system.log you see lots of messages at crash time of "received notification of WindowServer event port death".Apple, are you investigating? I am having internet connection issues with my MacBook Pro 2011 - running the latest version of Lion OSX. My connection cuts out regularly (every 10 - 15 minutes) despite having a full wifi signal. It is happening on two different routers, in two different locations with two different ISP's.
When I run Network Diagnostics ISP is the test that fails, but after a couple of seconds diagnostics fixes it until the next 10 - 15 minutes. The only other alternative is turning wifi off and on. Both of these only last for the 10 - 15 minutes before it cuts out again.
It is very frustrating and research online seems to indicate it is a Lion issue. I have made an appointment with a genius, but browsing online it appears there is no solution. It is not acceptable.

My battery ran out, and the computer did that hibernation thing it does when there's no battery power. I got my charger, connected it to my computer, and then pushed the power button. It started up for a second in to the gray screen it usually goes to. Then I turned around, tugging the magsafe charger out of the connector on the computer. This caused my computer to shut down again. Now I can't get it to boot at all.I've tried pretty much everything to deal with this. Multiple forced reboots, resetting PRAM and NVRAM, etc. I booted to original OSX disc and ran disc utility, but I discovered that there is *no disc to boot to*.

I got a 13" Macbook Pro in June 2009, and I really like the quality of the whole computer.
I just updated to OS X 10.6.5, and then I noticed a spot on my screen that looks like it's fading or ghosting. It's easiest to see when there's just light being emitted from the screen and no color, but it's always visible. I highly doubt that it's ghosting, because I never leave my screen on when I leave the computer. There are also these little black dots in rows that are visible in the fading section of the screen, but you can't see them in the attached images. I'll be able to upload higher resolution images tomorrow after noon.
Any ideas as to what this could be? I put my laptop in my backpack for school, but I'm always very careful about how I treat it and never leave it unattended. I also have no idea what that image would be if it was ghosting, because it doesn't look like anything to me.
Looking into getting a SSD 128GB for my 2009 uMB but I am wondering if that helps extend your battery life because I am getting 3.5 to 4 Hours on a single charge now. I just wonder if I can get more than 5 hours out of the battery with an SSD, then I can use the external drive for everything else but OS and Applications.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy 2009 2.26Ghz MacBook Pro won't start up. I know it's not the HDD because I replaced it with the old one I had in it and it did the same thing. I also know it isn't the HDD because I can boot of of it when I attatch it via an external HDD enclosure. It sometimes turns on if I let it sit for 30 minutes and if it does turn on it works perfectly and has no symptoms until I close it then it freezes up when I wake it up and I have to hard restart it but it doesn't restart then. It seems to do this more so if I close it then move it (put it in my bag and go to school). It's getting me really upset cause if it's my motherboard it's $600 to replace (almost not worth replacing except I don't have $1400 for a new MBP) please give any advice. I thought about buying the data doubler by OWC but that would be a last resort. I upgraded the ram to 8gb, 1333mhz (I know it uses 1066Mhz but I couldn't find any where I live so I put in 1333mhz ram expecting it to underclock to 1066 which it seems to have done that with no issue to my knowledge just thought I'd add that in case though.
