I tired a good power cord/charger, still wont turn on. Tried my power cord/charger on a good MacBook and it would not charge to good mac. IS the whole thing a Boat anchor now.
Last Friday, my half charged Macbook Pro randomly turned off and was unresponsive. No sleep/power indicator light, no start up chime, nothing. The only thing that works is the battery indicator light. I have tried a PRAM reset, SMC reset, everything suggested on this website and in the manual. I'm wondering what I'm looking at replacing here, and what the cost could be.
But I can turn it off, if I choose "Share my internet connection for other units". (I don't know, if this is the right text in english, because my OSX is in german)
2) Now Bluetooth is OFF:
But I can't turn it on, because the checkbox "ON" is inactive.
It turns only on, if I choose "New Unit"(?). Then there is a new window, that says, that this is only possible if Bluetooth turns on. If I say OK, bluetooth turns ON.
Back to 1)
What's the problem. Why is this f* checkbox for turning bluetooth on and off inactive?
This is not a hardware problem, because I can have stable bluetooth connections.
I did a smc and am pram reset. But it doesn't help.
Had (used) iBook G4 several months now & thoroughly enjoy it, even tho' I live in the sticks where there's no hi-speed/wireless available; I connect to internet & power, which is fine.
This weekend I went to turn off my iBook & it wouldn't turn off. It's now permanently on, with opening info barely visible (like I need to click on F2 to brighten up, except nothing happens).
Currently using my "back up" computer, my iMac Grape, which is pretty much an antique by now.
What happened: I was working late one night on a Keynote presentation. My battery ran out, and the computer did that hibernation thing it does when there's no battery power. I got my charger, connected it to my computer, and then pushed the power button. It started up for a second in to the gray screen it usually goes to. Then I turned around, tugging the magsafe charger out of the connector on the computer. This caused my computer to shut down again. Now I can't get it to boot at all.I've tried pretty much everything to deal with this. Multiple forced reboots, resetting PRAM and NVRAM, etc. I booted to original OSX disc and ran disc utility, but I discovered that there is *no disc to boot to*.
I got a 13" Macbook Pro in June 2009, and I really like the quality of the whole computer.
I just updated to OS X 10.6.5, and then I noticed a spot on my screen that looks like it's fading or ghosting. It's easiest to see when there's just light being emitted from the screen and no color, but it's always visible. I highly doubt that it's ghosting, because I never leave my screen on when I leave the computer. There are also these little black dots in rows that are visible in the fading section of the screen, but you can't see them in the attached images. I'll be able to upload higher resolution images tomorrow after noon.
Any ideas as to what this could be? I put my laptop in my backpack for school, but I'm always very careful about how I treat it and never leave it unattended. I also have no idea what that image would be if it was ghosting, because it doesn't look like anything to me.
Looking into getting a SSD 128GB for my 2009 uMB but I am wondering if that helps extend your battery life because I am getting 3.5 to 4 Hours on a single charge now. I just wonder if I can get more than 5 hours out of the battery with an SSD, then I can use the external drive for everything else but OS and Applications.
i have the 13 inch 2009 unibody macbook (see signature for specs) and am thinking of upgrading to the 13 inch macbook pro when it's refreshed in Q1. what do you guys think? and what's macmall all about? is it some place i can post my macbook?
I'm in the process of backing up my DVD collection as so far has worked fine, now i have got to my "Friends" boxset it will not read them. It has read them before now it just wont. If i put another show or movie DVD in it will read it just seems to be the "Friends" DVD's.

with the new MacBook Pros (13" and 15" only) concerning SATA II and third party drives in many forums, such as the Apple Support forum and the OCZ forum:[URL] [URL]As I understand it, the first mid 2009 MacBook Pros supported SATA I speeds only. After many user complaints, Apple addressed the issue with a firmware update, but it seems the MBPs hardware has a problem with full SATA II speeds since many users reported issues with 3rd party drives after the firmware update.
What are the differences and pros and cons? Can you switch out the keyboard on one? Switch harddrive? And just general differences. I'm still on windows but thinking about switching. So a little help would be much appreciated.
I wondered if anyone could give me an idea of what to expect when my base 13" MBP arrives soon. I currently have a late 2006 15" 2.16 C2D with 3GB RAM. Things have been going a bit dodgy for a while, battery, trackpad button, screen is not so good, so I needed something new, and more portable. My usual tasks include surfing, emailing, iTunes, iPhoto, watching avi's etc in VLC and rendering some of them for ipod use. What sort of day-to-day difference can I expect?
My battery life is very bad. goes down 40% in half an hour just viewing the internet. Only one year old, still have warranty with Applecare. Will I be able to exchange it for a replacement, how does this work?
I have a Macbook pro 15" mid 2009 and after using apple tv and downloading a movie yesterday I get an error message not enough memory to start up. I reset the pram and rhen reset the actual ram chips and it starts out better but something is grabbing all the memory. When I go to system monitor no one program seems to be causing the problem (under cpu) but when I go to network it show a lot of activity
My 2009 2.26Ghz MacBook Pro won't start up. I know it's not the HDD because I replaced it with the old one I had in it and it did the same thing. I also know it isn't the HDD because I can boot of of it when I attatch it via an external HDD enclosure. It sometimes turns on if I let it sit for 30 minutes and if it does turn on it works perfectly and has no symptoms until I close it then it freezes up when I wake it up and I have to hard restart it but it doesn't restart then. It seems to do this more so if I close it then move it (put it in my bag and go to school). It's getting me really upset cause if it's my motherboard it's $600 to replace (almost not worth replacing except I don't have $1400 for a new MBP) please give any advice. I thought about buying the data doubler by OWC but that would be a last resort. I upgraded the ram to 8gb, 1333mhz (I know it uses 1066Mhz but I couldn't find any where I live so I put in 1333mhz ram expecting it to underclock to 1066 which it seems to have done that with no issue to my knowledge just thought I'd add that in case though.

I had this working fine a few months ago, and then upgraded to a Pioneer elite stereo, now either audio or video work, but not simultaneously, even if I connect video to TV directly and audio to stereo directly, I can't get both to work it's either or. I've set the stereo to accept the optical input, and as I said above, it doesn't even work if I connect the audio to the stereo only while the video goes to the TV.
I have MBP 13", bought in Nov 09. Still unable to sync to TV with Rocketfish HDMI adapter and Dynex audio cable. I have video, but no audio. I was also able to get audio but no video. This was because I switched inputs on the TV.

I got this utility that allows me to use my Mac keyboard as a midi keyboard, called Easy MIDI. I want to chnge out some of the white keys with black ones, so I can make it more "piano-y" . Is it possible to do this on a late 2009 Macbook or a bluetooth Mac keyboard?

I have a Macbook pro (late 2009) and I'm trying to connect it to a fairly new Samsung LED tv. Ive tried to connect it to the tv with audio with two cables: a minidisplayport/hdmi cable and the audio jack/RCA cable. The video works just fine, but the audio is not working. The computer doesn't even recognize the tv as an audio output device. I found out that only macbook pro's made after late 2010 support audio through the HMDI cable so i was trying to find a cable that will support audio on my 2009 macbook pro.
I recently had Snow Leopard reinstalled on my 2009 Macbook6.1 at a Mac reseller. Immediately after the reinstall I upgraded to Lion OS X. It won't accept my new Apple ID as a login and I need a password for the sake of privacy so that only I can login and use my Macbook. I am having such a hard time with passwords now that I have had the OS cleaned and reinstalled. I wonder if this has anything to do with my recent purchase of an iPhone 4s.How do I reset th login password. I drove almost 1000km to visit an Apple Store where we reset the Apple ID and now the Macbook won't accept it. Has my Macbook been hijacked?
My computer has started freezing repeatedly. Seems to occur on random software programs - nothing obvious. Cannot even move the pointer. I can only shut down from the power button. I do not have start up discs with me (out of the country and no where near an apple store). I desperately need my computer to work!! Does anyone have any ideas of what I can try. HD test says it's ok. Tried SMC restart and that didn't help. Computer is not running hot either.
Have a MacBook dual core duo with an 250 GB HD and 4 GB RAM. I would like to speedup my MacBook so I'm thinking to swap the HD against an SSD having the same GB capacity. Will this work?

I've got a simple question: is it at all possible (in whatever way) to upgrade the memory (RAM) of a Mid 2009 MBA (2.13GHz C2D)? It is fitted with 2GB RAM and I am running into its limitations.
What can be the issue or how can I diagnose this. The screen dims sometimes so low nothing is visible. It is happening more often now and can happen after its been on only after 10 min.
Info: MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.8), Screen dims un-readably low
I've installed a Crucial M4 256GB SSD into the traditional hard drive bay of my Mid 2009, Macbook Pro (5,4). I started getting beachballs immediately after the least bit of intensive CPU usage and pinpointed the problem to be the faulty EFI 1.7 firmware update. I then downgraded to EFI 1.6, and the beachballs ceased, but the problem now is that the Hard Drive controller now only allow for up to 1.5 GB/s interfaces. With that, I'm now only using 25% of the speed potential of my SSD, which is quite frankly a waste of money.
I'm thinking of installing an optibay, in place of the optical drive and installing the SSD there, leaving my original hard drive in the original hard drive bay. The problem is, I don't know if this alternative will be worthwhile, as I have no idea how fast the Optical Drive's GB/seconds are. how fast the optical drive connector's GB/seconds is? If it's anything faster than 1.5, I'm definitely purchasing an optical bay for my HD.
