Aug 21, 2014Outgoing mail regularly requires a password. This is something new. Has something/a preference been contaminated? Can this be easily remedied ?

Nov 19, 2008In our higher education Mac computer lab, a printer may become paused (I am not sure why). But this requires an administrator password to unpause the printer, which only the admin in another building has. Is there a way to stop this type of activity? What causes a printer to become paused? Is there a way to not require admin status to continue?

Mar 31, 2012I was just browsing the Internet as usual, and suddenly my Mac popped up a dialog box with the message "Software Update wants to make changes", asking me for an administrator's password. I checked in the Dock and Software Update was NOT running!Â
I clicked Cancel on the box and it popped up again 2-3 times before finally going away. Can Software Update run in the background without any user intervention now? Could it be some kind of new Mac malware?

May 26, 2012My iMac is suddenly running slow, especially Safari and the finder is asking for the administrator password to delete some random files. I just repaired permissions so it can't be that.The iPad is fine with download speeds of 15+ Mbps vs 2 Mbps for the iMac.

Oct 27, 2009Can someone please help me figure out why it is that iTunes is now requiring that I enter my iTunes password seemingly every day for any new purchases I make, even though I've checked the checkbox to "remember password". I can't be sure but this behavior either started happening when I upgraded to Snow Leopard, or when I upgraded iTunes to version 9. I know this must have been addressed on these forums somewhere, but I wasn't able to come up with any thing meaningful when I did some searching for the answer.

May 14, 2012I made a clean install of lion as i had a little bit of a problems after few years i was uning my iMac.. All of the issues were gone but know i got a new problem with the trash .. Â
Every time i delete something (i.e: a folder that i dont need any more) i requires a password.. Then instead of that folder to appear in the Trash (as it should be), it is automatically gone and do not appear in the trash! what is this but i am suspicious that is the password protection thing that is responsible for that!

Dec 15, 2009I cannot get a solid answer on this one. Since the update it seems that safari fails to save my login info. For example I have to re-enter my username and pass for macrumors atleast once everyday. Also it seems that Safari occasionally hogs more memory and resources after extended use. Anyone else?

Laptops :: Migration Assistant Requires Excessive Password Entries - How To Configure Settings
Dec 9, 2009I used Migration Assistant to transfer apps and files from iBook G4, 10.4.11 to MacBook 10.6.2. The apps transferred and work great, except for iPhoto. I am still working on that one. The photos are in the MacBook, but I think I need to drag them into iPhoto. (?) The bigger concern is that once I found my transferred files in Users, I could not open any of the files without using my password - every time, every file. Further, even after opening the files, I cannot trash any of them without, again, using my password. Is there any way to get around this?
I tried not to use a different password when setting up the transfer, but Migration Assistant would not allow me to use the same one.
Mac OS X Lion Server :: Email Address Requires Host Name In Address Field
May 5, 2012I'm trying to setup mail on Lion Sever (7.3). The only way I can get it to accept incoming mail is to specify the whole FQDN of the server in the address. For example the domain name is example.com and I have a user set up called john. Sending mail to john@server.example.com works.
But sending mail to john@example.com (which is what I want) returns an error:
554 554 5.7.1 <john@example.com>: Relay access denied (state 13).
For internal DNS, I have:
example.com - primary zonemail.expample.com - alias server.example.comserver.example.com - 192.168.1.2 [URL] - alias server.example.com MX record [URL]
I see references here to problems in mail on 7.3 but not this specific problem.

May 30, 2012I am on the latest update of Snow Leopard. It seems that if I leave the computer to go to the screensaver automatically, chances are that it may crash. I haven't changed my energy saver preferences for months - so if it is related to that it's not something I've changed.Looking in system.log you see lots of messages at crash time of "received notification of WindowServer event port death".Apple, are you investigating? This looks to me to be a serious problem. One of my colleagues is experiencing something similar. I switched to using using a mac in 2007 and immediately found it to be a better machine in every way (usability, reliability, design) than my previous windows laptop. [code]

OS X :: Safari Freezing Regularly Since Snow Leopard
Sep 21, 2009As the thread title states, ever since I updated to snow leopard, both safari and firefox freeze up when I access the ESPN home page and occasionally a few other sites that I have never experienced problems with before on leopard. However, if i turn off the enable plug-ins button in the safari preferences pane, most of the sites work just fine. I thought it may be flash related but i have since updated the programs it it continues to freeze up on the ESPN page. side note, this happens on both my work and home computers (very different specs between the two).
