2009 IMac Showing RGB Pixels Then Freezing

Jun 10, 2012

So I have a 2009 iMac.Earlier this year, I upgraded to Lion. A little while after this upgrade I started running in to an issue that is now making my computer unusable. When working on graphic or labor intensive activities I am receiving Red Green and Blue pixels around my screen (see picture below) Shortly after this happens, my screen freezes and becomes unresponsive with these pixels still up OR it will completely glitch out, blinking and causing the whole screen to go crazy. Things I have tried so far, rebooting my system from scratch, replacing video card (not cheap )

OS X :: Vertical Bar On Display Showing Blurry Pixels - Gray Bar Of Pixels?

Feb 13, 2010

for the last week or so my MBA has been showing a ~3 inch bar running vertically along the middle-left of the display. Until today, the area looked just like blurry pixels (some things like graphics would still appear, so I don't believe the problem is with the pixels themselves). Now the area has become a gray bar of pixels.

Dec 12, 2009

I recently got the Core i5 iMac. Basically, while I'm working doing everyday things like browsing, coding, iMovie etc...my screen just freezes and there are squares of white noise pixels scattered everywhere. I can see the mouse cursor as I move but the image is so distorted that I dont know what Im clicking. Restarting the machine fixes the problem.

I made a youtube video so you guys could see what I'm talking about here:

IMac :: Help! IMac 21.5" (Late 2009) Showing Slight Yellowish Tint!

Jul 24, 2010

Hey guys! So just a few days ago, I received my iMac, and boy do I love it. A definite upgrade and improvement from my old Acer Aspire 3680.

But despite this, I have noticed that my iMac does have a slight yellowish tint at the bottom to corners. I just arrived at my desk, and the login window (I keep a password lock) had a slight yellowish tint when I woke up my iMac from sleep . I then noticed that the bottom two corners had a slight yellow tint to them. I verified this via the MacRumors Forum post, and I was able to find it out by making my desktop background white. Again, it may not seem noticeable at first, but if you examine it closely, it becomes apparent.

I've already called my local Apple store and one of them said that don't know about this issue (?) and that they could schedule an appointment for me. I declined because I have to have me parents take me and I'm pretty sure that I can't handle the load of carrying a 20lbs. computer w/o dropping it (yikes!).

So here's the big question, should I go to my local Apple store or call the Apple hotline when it's open (currently closed at the time of this thread)? I don't want to sound like a lunatic or someone that just wants to get a better iMac for free. Again, it's slight, but considering that I do movie editing and Photoshop work

IMac :: Early 2009 24" Hard Drive Not Showing Under Devices

Nov 8, 2009

I'm not sure what the culprit is because the night I downloaded the last update of 10.5.8, the circuit for this room also blew. I don't know if it interrupted the download or not, as I wasn't paying attention. However, the next morning I woke up to the gray screen and it never booted. I finally was able to boot it up and the hard drive had a name like kjkldfjkjdkljafkjadkj. I renamed the hard drive and ran disk utilities on it. It needed to be repaired, so I installed the installation CD and used disk utilities from it. It says everything is fine. However, the hard drive now does not show up under Devices when using Finder. Also, everything seems to be a lot more sluggish now.

Intel Mac :: Keeps Freezing Up - Pixels Distorted / Horizontal Lines On Screen

Jun 5, 2012

I purchased a late 2006 intel core duo iMac 20'' with an upgrade to os Lion. I've been using it for less than 24 hours, and it has managed to freeze up on me twice, with a followed appearance of pixel abnormalities, horizontal lines, etc. I did my research and it seems to be a graphics card problem, which is a Raedon ati x1600 ,256 mb.

PowerPC :: Faded Pixels Showing Up In Display

Sep 26, 2010

Over the last week, my 7 year old Powerbook G4 began showing faint pixels in the background which is more obvious if you are scrolling over menus also when a menu is highlighted. Unfortunately this seems to be affecting DVD playback because it will show blinking green vertical lines inside Front Row. This image within OS X 10.5.8 will show what I mean: [URL]. Does this means the graphics card is failing?

My Mid 2009 MacBook Pro freezes regularly.  There does not seem to be any pattern to when this happens.  I do not get a grey screen, and it does not freeze for long.  I have reinstalled Mavericks, and I have installed new RAM.  Nothing I have tried as made a difference.

Mac Pro :: 2009 - Graphics Glitches / Freezing In Yosemite?

Dec 6, 2014

I have a 2009 Mac Pro that is running 10.10.1. It is using a Radeon 4870 still from the factory. I have had a mostly flawless experience in the last 5 years with the system, but it has lately been displaying graphical problems and then freezing completely. After the display does quirky stuff that I am attaching in the image, I can only move the cursor. No other actions can be performed, and the only option I have is a hard shutdown with the power button. Usually after I do this, the machine will boot with the chime, but no startup screen will ever appear. It just sets blank. The only way I have found around this is to hold the option key, then boot to my primary drive.

I notice this seems to happen after the computer has woken from sleep. But, the issue originally appeared for the first time after updating to the newest Logitech Control panel for my mouse. I thought it was that, so I removed it and am no longer using that at all. The issue still exists.

Here is an image of what the screen typically does.

My mid-2014 15" Macbook Pro randomly "loses" its retina display at the top menu (becomes pixel-y), where the battery, sound, and wifi logos are (on the top right side of the screen). A restart fixes the issue, but I want to know if this is an issue that can be fixed?

MacBook Pro :: Difference Between DEAD Pixels And STUCK Pixels?

May 14, 2010

So after waiting 4 weeks my High-res Glossy MBP FINALLY arrived...I was so happy. Got home switched it on and WOW it really is a beautiful machine...After using it for about 30 mins however i noticed a small dot to the lower right half of the screen... I looked closer and realized it was either a dead or stuck pixel( I dont exactly know the difference). I did a few test on it, and its ONLY visible when a light color is on the screen (White, Gray etc) However when the screen is DARK blue, Dark green or black it cant be seen at all...

It kind of looks like a TINY speck of water or liquid the size of 1 pixel stuck under the glass... I noticed that it does get lighter and darker when i adjust the brightness of the screen. Can anybody give me some tips? Anything i can do to fix it? Is it in fact a dead or a stuck pixel? I tried the JSscreen fix which is basically a online tool that opens up a flashing screen...Ive had it on for about 30 mins...but no luck

OS X :: New IMac With Dead Pixels?

Mar 19, 2009

When I took my new Imac 24 out of the box last week, instantly i noticed about 3 or 4 dead pixels, they aren't too bad but it's only of those things you don't expect with a new computer and it can be quite distracting once you know they are there.... if i were to contact the place of purchase in regards to this do you feel i would be over-reacting to have it replaced or repaired or should i just suck it up?

IMac :: Dead Pixels On ISight

Dec 30, 2009

I read a few posts about dead pixels on the iSight, so I thought I'd post this picture to see what other people think. This is a screenshot straight from Photobooth, showing the image from my iSight when the black cleaning cloth is held up to it. No, those marks are not dirt (on the outside anyway). Other that this, my iMac is fine with the exception of a single dead pixel (I thought this was a thing of the past, but oh well) and I'm not 100% about whether or not I have the yellow screen issue, so I'll ignore it for now.

IMac :: 24" ACD Red Dead Pixels?

Jan 28, 2010

I don't have an iMac, but I do have a 24" ACD that I bought brand new a few months ago (not refurb). It has a single pixel that is constantly on and it's red. It drives me absolutely CRAZY...probably because I paid $900 for this display. I can't remember ever having a problem pixel on another display...all of them cheaper. So I'm curious about the iMac owners. Is a dead/stuck pixel here and there an expected thing for iMac owners?

Mac :: 27" I7 IMac - DEAD Pixels Out Of The Box Now?

Jun 20, 2010

2 weeks ago I finally decided to order an iMac, despite all of the issues I had been hearing about with the display. I figured that I was going to be one of the lucky ones and have no issues whatsover. I was ordering a brand new machine and it should be fine. After about 30 minutes of getting things up and running, and while a webpage with a good bit of white background was open, I noticed the dead pixel (pixels?). As the question mark shows, I'm not really sure if this is considered one pixel or many. So I figured I'd let the gurus like Hellhammer tell me. The first picture is zoomed out and is of the bottom left hand corner where the dead pixel(s) is. I apologize for the spots around it, that is actually inside the camera body itself I think (Nikon D40x) and I can't seem to get them cleaned off. That's another issue....sigh. The second is a very close in picture of the area. I photoshopped the lense spots out to see it better.Individual pixles are visible. This to me looks like 5 dead ones in a diagonal row.

Mac :: IMac Screen Lines Of Dead Pixels?

Jun 4, 2009

I use an Intel white iMac 2.0gHz as my primary computer. So far, it has given me no trouble. However, lately I woke the computer to discover a yellow line of dead pixels all the way to the right of the screen. It was discouraging but since the line was out of the way, it wasn't a great deal. However again, later today, I woke the display to find another line running down the middle of the computer. Oh gosh! Anyone know what is going on? Is it the display or the graphics card?

I would go to the apple store but the problem is there is not one here locally.. However there is a Apple guy at my local Futureshop.. could he handle this type of thing? (I didn't buy it at futureshop btw).. I want a replacement if its possible, switched from a PC and payed quite a bit more for this lower end iMac.. I basically downgraded, and I can't stand that it has 3 dead/stuck pixels..

I noticed the display model had a dead pixel in the centre of the screen so I asked once I had paid for it if I could open it and check the iMac before leaving, the store said that was fine.I opened it up and it had 3 dead pixels! So they swapped it over for another and that had another 2! (It's either dead pixels, or dirt behind the glass, either is unaccepted in my eyes). So I just got a refund as they said they wouldn't open anymore.

OS X :: 24" IMac Faint Vertical Line Of Pixels On The Screen?

i noticed a faint vertical line of pixels on the far left of my screen. they weren't black or colored, just faint/dim. i tried switching my desktop background, and the line was still there. i restarted my computer, and the line was still there. i shut down the computer, thinking that i would find the line there in the morning and have to take it to the apple store.

when i turned the computer on the next morning, there was no line. however, later that evening i noticed a reappearance of the line. i restarted the computer and left for a while. when i came back later, i woke the computer from sleep mode, and the line was gone.

there was no line on the computer this morning, although after a couple hours of use, i noticed that two lines had developed on the edge of where i had application windows open -- in this case, both yahoo messenger for mac. curiously, this didn't happen with other windows (finder, safari, etc).

IMac :: Replacing 27" Because Of Dead Pixels Lose All Settings?

I have 1 dead pixel and it didn't bother me that much, but I recently turned off the screen to see smudges to clean it and there's a freaking gash behind the glass on the right side. I'm at day 13, so I want to bring it in to get it replaced, but my question is, will I lose all my settings? Can I back up my programs and everything to an external and just install them when I get the new replacement and it will be just like my old one? What about settings like my view settings in the finder and what not? How much will I have to redo. Also, I bought 16BG of third party ram. I will have to put back the old ram obviously, but I'm just wondering if there's anything I should know.
