Jun 4, 2012My November 2011 17" MacBook Proi has on several occasions gone to a black screen, which requires hard shutdown and re-boot. It happens in two ways: coming out of sleep, the screen appears for a second and then goes black, and sometimes when jjust using the Mac.Â
It comes back on after re-boot with no apparent problems but seems to be occuring more frequently, so I need to get this fixed.Â

Mac Mini :: 2009 HTPC Snow Leopard - Intermittent Loss Of Signal
Sep 8, 2009I have a March 2009 Mac Mini that was working fine under Leopard when sending out a signal from mini display port to hdmi and then to a Samsung HDTV. Now when I upgraded I get more options for monitoring HD signals but my TV signal drops out intermittently. I suspect this is a bug with Snow Leopard and HDMI. Anyone have any inklings on how to solve this issue?

Nov 2, 2008In short, we got a new Mac Mini on Friday. I hooked it up to the wireless keyboard/mouse from the Dell dimension 2400 we are replacing. It seemed okay at first but developed issues the first day. Intermittent mouse drop outs, and loss of internet being the worst symptoms. I am thinking of ditching the Mini and getting something else.

May 18, 2010I have a last gen. white macbook. I was watching a youtube video today and firefox shut down. When it restarted it shutdown again. I decided to restart my computer. When it was restarting, a message popped up saying I needed to restart by holding down the power button. After pushing the power button the screen went black. I then pushed the power button again and my computer made this horrible beeping noise until I pressed the power button again. In doing this process more than once the mac start up "chord Bing" happened over and over until I pressed the power button. I got the comp turned off and let it sit for an hour or so. It started up fine. I downloaded google chrome and when trying to change some settings the "restart your comp by holding down the power button" message came up. When restarting the crazy beep came back. Now everything seems fine but while typing the comp made the noise like it wants to eject a cd.

Sep 10, 2014As the headline says the right half of the screen turns black when watching video content in iTunes on full screen. I can see the whole picture when moving the mouse a little but as soon as the navigation bar disappears the right half of the picture disappears too. It does not matter what source it is. Both podcasts and movies work (or do not work) the same.Â
The problem doesn't occur for other player (VLC, XBMC etc.).Â
I have the latest OS (10.9.4) and iTunes (11.4). The computer is MBP 13-inch retina, late 2012 if it matters.Â

Feb 28, 2012I’m using Quicktime Pro 10.1 with Lion and when I export a clip, I get a file with audio but no video. I had this problem on my other MacBook and found a suggestion that I remove a file from the library but I can’t find the suggestion now and don’t remember what I removed.

Jan 24, 2010I use a Sony HDR-SR11 AVCHD handycam. I import my clips into FCE4 via the log and transfer window, using the Apple Intermediate Codec. I edit my video, but i dont know where to go from here! What is the best way to export this video without loss of quality? These videos would mainly go onto youtube, iDVD, or a memory drive. I do not have quicktime pro, so any modifications would have to be within FCE4.

Apr 14, 2009This is something I've been wondering for a long time. I seem to have a lot of screen-related issues with the Pros that I sit in front of in the main. Brightness controls going haywire displays not turning on, etc. There is also the odd attached USB device lockup, but I'd been putting this down to the devices themselves and the occasional, app-level instability of Leopard. More recently though, I've been seeing a pattern that's leading me to suspect the Pro's more than the peripherals. Is there a documented case of possible USB hub connection issues in (fully patched) 2008 Pros? The most frequent issue is monitors not behaving as expected when the system is booted until the monitors themselves are unplugged from power. There are also less frequent but present problems where iPods lock up, keyboards stop working, etc. I can't really abstract the problem down to an OS issue or a hardware issue, but the need for me to unplug the monitors seems to indicate that there is some sort of USB initialisation issue - as with the other minor problems I experience with other monitor-connected USB peripherals. Since I only use multimonitor environments as far as my Pros are concerned, all USB connections are usually made from the backs of the screens. So the big question is is this a screen USB hub fault, or a main-unit intermittent fault? All of the monitors I'm using have been to Applecare for one reason or another, although I'm not sure if they check everything in these repairs.
Can anyone else shed more light on this issue? It's pretty hard to replicate reliably and it's not been something I can go to Apple with any degree of certainty, yet the little minihoops I have with this problem (and oh so many other Apple issues, but that's by the by) irritate me immensely in comparison to my rock-solid, near-zero-such-issue, non-Apple environments which I also use daily.
OS X Yosemite :: Install Failed Due To Loss Of Power / Will Now Not Go Past Login Screen
Nov 30, 2014I recently tried to install OS X Yosemite. unfortunately during the install my laptop was unplugged and the installation failed mid way through. Each time I start my mac I get to login screen and after logging in get an error message and told to restart and try again - which does not resolve the issue. Guest login do work to the safari screen.

May 24, 2012I came back from work to wake up my iMac. It made the noise but the screen stayed black. I tried restarting by holding the power button- I can hear it start and the chime but still have a black screen. I tried resetting the pram, and unplugging the cord but I still get a black screen. I can hear the chime though; I'm not sure if that means anything. I just had the hard drive replaced in February so I hope it's not that. just wanted to clarify that when I restart, I get the chime but the screen stays black- I don't get to the grey screen. So I'm assuming right now that my display may be shot?

Sep 16, 2009So I have a DYNEX 21 inch HD TV conected up to my MBP via the VGA connection route. My problem is that when I want a program (or more specifically in this case a game) to go into fullscreen mode it automatically goes to my primary monitor and turns the other screen black. I know I can switch the primary monitor from my actual laptop screen to the TV however I just want the game to be full screen on the TV while still having access to my dock and everything on my laptop.

Jan 4, 2010I have a problem with my screen - when there is something black on, I can see a faint mark of a lighter colour. I have tried to take a picture, please excuse the poor quality. There is nothing visible when the screen is off, even under close examination. Is it less visible when lighter things are on the screen, and invisible when the screen is white.
No drops or liquid spills. Will this go away on it's own? Any fixes?

I do like it a lot, but I have one big problem (its big to me!) and question -- about 3 times per week since purchasing the MacBook Air while working / typing on the MacBook Air, the screen just goes black fir NO apparent reason!! It is like the battery is suddenly totally OUT of any power!
