View 1 Replies View RelatedI've had my iMac for over 2 years now. Last Thursday, I left it on for more than 3 hours and it started having black and white verticals lines appearing on the bottom and top part of my desktop and the cursor. Yesterday, when I checked it again, it was still there! What can I do to fix it, WITHOUT going to a Apple store?

Simply using my Imac for watching tv on the web, Hulu, and left to help my wife get groceries in the house. My wife checked her email and closed Safari.
I came back in roughly 10 minutes from when she shut down Safari to see a black screen with white pinstriping, and the mac being totally unresponsive. Shut down and rebooted, sent off the report to Apple, and am now here with seemingly no problems.Â
Needless to say, as a photographer this computer is just about as important as my camera. Should I be worried? discovered the thread to this issue, which appears to be quite extensive.Â

So I've got my MBP that I've had for about 4 months, the thing is. It just recently started to have screen flickering issues. I'll be sitting doing w/e as usual and all of a sudden the display goes dark, almost black, for a second, then comes back up again. I have yet to find any trend in when this is happening, but it is definitely happening on battery as well as plugged in, but it seems to be getting worse.any one have any idea what this could be, something I can fix on my own, or should I take it in?
View 7 Replies View RelatedScreen will go completely black for a second then back to normal display.Makes no difference what application I'm using. Within last 10 minutes went black for 4 times. Does not power down, just screen goes black.Contacted support via phone, they had me shut down, unplug power cord, then plug in and start. Appeared ok while I was on phone with support.Didn't use imac for 1 1/2 hours, now I notice it going black again.

I have a 27 inch desktop. Upon turning the computer on within seconds the fan comes on. Then it goes to a high fan. Then it goes to a black screen. Then it shuts off. Then if you click the mouse it will come back on. This cycle repeats itself every 5 seconds. Only one time in the past month did it turn on normally and run for me.

when pressing ctrl-option-cmd-8 to switch to white on black (in a low-light environment), everything goes into inverse color mode, including the background desktop picture which sucks if you have a darkish pic which is then superbright.in ubuntu, switching to inverse colors leaves the background pic alone,
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy White iMac 24" won't boot up anymore.I noticed he was running slow lately and in the browser he crashed regularly so I need to reboot.Using the power button I have to shut him down and reboot again, only, the last time, he refused to boot up.Instead I got a solid black screen, and a solid white power light at the front... When booting the only thing I hear is a little buzz and then, nothing... Several support forums said this wasn't very good and it might be the last breath of my iMac. Trying a few things, hoping they would bring him back to life couldn't help:
- Power on with "c" kept down
- power on with control+option+p+r was something I read
- Power on with "shift" kept downÂ
nothing would work.Â

Recently my Mac has been extremely unstable. It keeps freezing up and hanging for no reason. Initially a 3 beep would sound off, I ran some tests like the apple hardware one and realised that one of the rams was bad. I bought 2 new sticks of ram and replaced it. Following which, the mac still freezes up and a 3 beep alarm sounded off again.
Currently, I'm trying to turn it on, no 3 beep signal is sounding off but the Mac either keeps freezing and showing a highly pixelated screen or a black screen surfaces. There is some sound coming off from the laptop as well. Each time I switch on the system, it just shows a black screen with no display.
The Mac is a 15'' 2.66 MHz i7 which was manufactured in the mid 2010s.
The 2 new sticks of ram are Strontium 1066Mhz 4Gb x 2 sticks.
In the initial stages: kernel panics were common as well.

Recently my Mac Pro has been going to a black screen when idle for a while and I need to power off using the power button and restart. It's not set to ever go to sleep but if I use the sleep function under the Apple, it functions as it should, waking when I touch a key (although I don't let it sit for a while before I wake it). When it is in the black screen mode, it still is performing Time Machine backups.

I have an iMac 2.8 24 inch, about Two years old running 10.5.7 , when I start the computer it shows the normal Gray screen for about 30 seconds, then the screen goes all Black , but with a small flashing white line ( _ ) in the top Left hand side corner.
It just stays all Black for ever , I then hold down the On / Off button and turn off the computer, I then hold down the keyboard '' option key '' and press the on button at the same time , then I get the option to start from the main HDD , I click the Icon and the computer then starts normally , and every thing runs ok.
Can some one please tell me what I have to do to get my iMac to start up normally again , Ive run Repair Disk permissions but the problem still occurs . Over the last few day's Ive been trying out a few new applications, so not too sure if this has any thing to do with this current problem
Just installed Windows XP using bootcamp and usually no problems switching between operation systems. Recently started using an USB modem for my wireless internet connection. Internet works on both Mac and windows through the modem. Now the problem is whenever I restart or switch on my computer, it shows a black screen if I choose windows partition to boot. No problem if I start through mac partition. If I unplug the USB modem, everything goes fine and I have to plug the modem after starting windows. Is there any solution so that I can permanently plugin the USB modem and avoid booting problem?

View 7 Replies View Related24" iMac running 10.6.3 and having some issues all of the sudden with my secondary monitor. It detects the display and the monitor comes out of standby, but only shows a black screen. Tried it with another monitor to see if that was the issue but it's not. Seems as if the iMac is sending bad video signal out... Couldn't find anything similar on a quick google search so I thought I'd try here to see if anyone had any similar problems.

Every url that I enter (bookmark, email link, etc.) comes up as 1 pixel by 1 pixel. That's all. It loads instantaneously, doesn't give me an "I cannot connect" error, and displays a blank white screen.
I've tried: many different links
- quitting and relaunching Safari
- reinitializing Safari
- I can still connect to the interweb via Mail, Firefox, iTunes.
I didn't have an internet connection so I rebooted the computer -- I wish I'd just rebooted the modem now. When it "rebooted" it didn't boot up but a black screen with a lot of white type saying the start up of various things failed -- it looked like a PC script type thing. Then that type disappeared leaving a black screen and just a white cursor that moves when I hit the space bar. This is the computer for the place I'm working and I'm not even sure what generation Mac it is, though I'll try to find out. I hope, hope, hope that there is some kind of simple resolution to this.
