My macbook pro just has a black screen with a small coloured circle on the right of the screen. It is frozen and wont respond to turning it off or on. It is plugged into mains power.

Every few weeks my iMac will suddenly freeze, the screen going black or white or pink etc. The only way I can get the computer back is to hold down the power button to force a shutdown. Then after a restart everything is OK for a few more weeks. Usually it occurs when I am on the internet. I click on something and suddenly the computer is frozen. I am on OS X 10.6.8 and usually use Safari. Ironically when I opened this forum 5 minutes ago there was a similar sounding problem at the top of the list!

I just bought my macbook pro 13 inch about a 40 days ago and I have just noticed two small black dots on the on the bottom of the screen near the left side of my dock. I have done some research and they seem to be "dead pixels" They're really small but for the price I payed i didnt expect any problems. What are some suggestions to get rid of them or if i should contact tech support? Here are two pictures of the dots: They kinda change colour when i move my head around.. Not sure if theyre dead pixels or not.
View 12 Replies View RelatedMy Mac froze. I tried rebooting and now it won't boot past the blue screen. I have a mouse pointer and there is a small black circle with three smaller blue dots inside of it in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Clicking on it does nothing. I tried booting in safe mode but it wouldn't boot past the galaxy screen. Again, I had a mouse pointer but nothing more. I've tried booting from the OS disc that came with the computer. It sounds like the disc is running but nothing ever happens.

So today I noticed a small black bar on the corner of my screen. I tried to get a screen shot of it, but i couldn't, like it was off the screen. However, my mouse dissapears under it when i move it there.It is a little hard to distinguish because it is the 2.4 ghz macbook aluminum, glossy screen so it has the black surrounding it, but it is definably there. This all along the right hand edge of the screen.
Although there is a chance it may have always been there, I am not so sure. I think there are lines along the top and left hand sides, but they are much smaller. again it is hard to tell. I am fairly sure that there is none on the bottom of screen. Is this normal, or what? I have applecare, and I didn't do anything to my macbook. Although it is getting me a little OCDish, and is slightly annoying, and I know these things on the screen tend to expand.
before I went to bed, I was playing the Sims 2, when my iBook G4 crashed. Our power cord can be a bit dodgy, so sometimes that happens. I didn't really think about it much, just closed the laptop and went to sleep.Last Monday morning, I opened it and pressed the power button. It began turning on, and got as far as the grey screen with the apple and the spinning circle. And then it just froze. The circle stopped turning.
I freaked out a bit, and restarted it a bunch of times, each time with the same result. (One time it stopped spinning, and then told me a restart was required. Huh. The rest of the times the exact same thing happened though.) I even tried unplugging and removing the battery, but it made no difference. So eventually I just shut it and decided to try again later.Last Tuesday I opened it and pressed the power button without much hope, and again the apple and circle came up just fine, then stopped, but then a bunch of words and numbers popped up.I'm a complete computer noob, but they don't look good to me... or are they good?

I'm on week 3 of being a mac newbie and the proud owner of a new MacBook Pro 15" (I'm even excited about Snow Leopard arriving tomorrow .... don't remember that from my Windoze daysAlas, all is not rosy ... I've just noticed a small scratch on my screen, no idea how it got there (heads will roll if I find out!). Although it not going to effect me working on it a great deal, it is starting to anyone tried to polish out a scratch using a very fine grade steel wool ... or something similar. I know this can work on scratches on glass

It then just shows me a large image of the power button with the message "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the restart button" I then do this and the same happens again and I go no further.

Upgraded ram immediately to a G.Skill 4Gb kit. 4 days ago, computer randomly froze with horizontal coloured bar. Called Apple next day, the guy there told me that sometimes this happens, and that I should only be worried if this occurs ago. 4 days later, we are at this present scenario: In the last hour or so, has crashed 3 times. Programs running in common were iTunes and Safari.

When I set the display settings to the native resolution on the projector there is a small black line or bar down the left hand side of the screen. Not on the right but only on the left. why this would be happening?

I just noticed today that when I turn the brightness all the way down, or when I go away from my computer and my screen turns black that there is a circle in the middle of my screen which I can still see what is going on in the background. Its not like its bright but you can still notice it.

They can be wiped by dragging a window over them but they will eventually reappear. I have discovered at least three other threads where this issue has been discussed but our local Apple store is claiming that Apple haven't declared it as a legacy fault. It would be interesting to hear how others have been treated when presenting Apple with this fault. At first they thought it was the GPU but they now think that it is either the logic board OR the logic board AND the GPU together!! Being charged between £480 and £650 to repair a machine that is less than 18 months old is a bit much from a company that continually boasts about the quality of its products.

So I have a DYNEX 21 inch HD TV conected up to my MBP via the VGA connection route. My problem is that when I want a program (or more specifically in this case a game) to go into fullscreen mode it automatically goes to my primary monitor and turns the other screen black. I know I can switch the primary monitor from my actual laptop screen to the TV however I just want the game to be full screen on the TV while still having access to my dock and everything on my laptop.

I have tried to take a picture, please excuse the poor quality. There is nothing visible when the screen is off, even under close examination. Is it less visible when lighter things are on the screen, and invisible when the screen is white.
No drops or liquid spills. Will this go away on it's own? Any fixes?
On my MacBook Pro, I have a blue circle shape imprint on my screen, most noticeable when the screen is black. Looks as if a magnet touched my screen but i'm positive that gasn't happened.

Has anyone seen and solved the issue of receiving a white screen on reboot with a slashed circle? Prior to rebooting the computer was running V-E-R-Y slowly. I saved my work and rebooted only to receive this screen.

I've had my mac for about three years now and everything was working fine. After I installed lion, I notice that this started to happen. I don't lose any of my information though when it does that. It just goes into a sleep mode I guess? Anyways, is this a feature from the lion update? Something standard?

When my MacBook Pro 13" i5 goes into screen saver mode, which is black, it won't return to normal mode. Tried all keys, trac pad, closing the lip and re-opening it, and it won't respond. The only thing that works is holding down power button for hard shutdown, then restarting it. It has happened 8 times in the last 2 weeks.

After an update(I think) I can no longer get into my computer. When turned on I get the apple logo then a grey screen that turns to black but the curser is active . Then there is no more progress to the startup screen

My Macbook Pro is not starting past the grey screen and the apple logo and the rolling circle. I have tried every method and I am desperate to do anything to start my computer even erase the entire disc. I have contacted the Apple store and they told me the cost will be equivalent to $600 to just repair it and no way I will be able to afford it. I am willing to do anything and even erase my entire disc. However, for that the instructions on the Apple page state that 'Insert your Mac OS X 10.4 or 10.5 installation disc'. However, I do not have my installation disc Is there any other way I can erase the OS system and at least reboot my Macbook?

View 11 Replies View RelatedWhen the screen on my MBA is closed down the rubber edge on the bezel around the screen does fit tightly on the left side, but on the entire right side, there is as small gap between the rubber edge and the base of the MBA. At the rear right the distance between the bezel and the base of the MBA is one milimeter and since the rubber edge takes up less than half of that distance, I'd say the gap is at least half a milimeter. Does your screen fit tightly all the way around or is a small gap normal? I'd think the rubber edge not only avoid metal against metal, but it will also prevent dust or dirt from entering the screen / keyboard / touchpad area when transporting the MBA.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've been planning to get a MBP over Christmas, and today I went to the local Reseller to get a USB-hub, and I played around with the 15" and 17" after since they were out, and I wanted to see if any other local stores had them. I've been planning on a 15" for a while, but when I looked at them right next to each other, it struck me that the resolution on the 15" is tiny compared to the 17". I realize that it's small because the screen is small, but it's so my smaller that the menubar took up so much physical space it became a problem for me. The 13" on the other hand, looked fine. The resolution is small, but the screen is small too so it fits.
Now I've been using a whitebook with 1280x800 for a while now, and the resolution is one of the primary reasons I'm not going to upgrade to a 13" MBP, but there is no way in hell I am getting the 15" with a fisher-price resolution! Is there any chance Apple could use a 1680x1050 panel instead of the 1440xwhatever? Does anyone know why the refurbs on the UK store are all 17"? There is not a single 13" or 15" there, and hasn't been for a while. Are there known problems on the 17" that I'm not aware of?
I have a new MBP with a high resolution anti-glare display. It is beautiful, but at full resolution everything looks smaller. Is there any way to set preferences so that windows open with a full-size appearance without setting the display to a lower resolution?
