QuickTime :: Pro Not Exporting Video - Get A Black Screen
Feb 28, 2012
I’m using Quicktime Pro 10.1 with Lion and when I export a clip, I get a file with audio but no video. I had this problem on my other MacBook and found a suggestion that I remove a file from the library but I can’t find the suggestion now and don’t remember what I removed.

I am running a Macbook 2.4GHz with 4GB of RAM and Snow Leopard.
I have an issue using Keynote 09.
I have created a presentation that has a m4v video playing in the background.
The video was the first thing I put in and was just placed on the slide and set to play when the presentatation starts.
The video starts at the beginning automatically and plays for the entirity of the presentation. The presentation is only 2 mins long. Over it are a number of different words all with various animations. There is also a music file playing in the background.
I have then recorded the show with manual timings and now when I play it in Keynote it runs smoothly from start to finish. The video continues to play and the transitions are smooth.
HOWEVER, when I then try and export the presentation as a Quicktime file I encounter a problem. The video starts initially at the beginning of the presentation but the minute any other animation kicks in the video freezes and does not restart. I have tried a large variety of export settings but to no avail. I have also spent time trawling the internet to try and solve this problem but no solution found.
It is very frustrating. I need to export it because I need it as a movile file rather than a keynote presentation.

I edited a screen recording video (shot with QuickTime) with iMovie. Added chapters but when EXPORT - USE QUICKTIME and set properites to HD format, once done (5 hours) chapters are not available in Quicktime. I read that when exporting to tiny video format, chapters are not available but here I' exportin to an HD format. As the headline says the right half of the screen turns black when watching video content in iTunes on full screen. I can see the whole picture when moving the mouse a little but as soon as the navigation bar disappears the right half of the picture disappears too. It does not matter what source it is. Both podcasts and movies work (or do not work) the same.Â
The problem doesn't occur for other player (VLC, XBMC etc.).Â
I have the latest OS (10.9.4) and iTunes (11.4). The computer is MBP 13-inch retina, late 2012 if it matters.Â

Does the new Quicktime capture on screen video with sound? If not is there a way to do it? Other good reliable programs out there that do what I am looking for?

I'm trying to play a 20GB .mov (I have donwloaded the ProRes Decoder for Windows codec) and also export the file to a smaller one on my PC. The file opens but stutters and freezes; audio plays okay. On the export side, it goes through most of it but fails at the end.Â

I have a last gen. white macbook. I was watching a youtube video today and firefox shut down. When it restarted it shutdown again. I decided to restart my computer. When it was restarting, a message popped up saying I needed to restart by holding down the power button. After pushing the power button the screen went black. I then pushed the power button again and my computer made this horrible beeping noise until I pressed the power button again. In doing this process more than once the mac start up "chord Bing" happened over and over until I pressed the power button. I got the comp turned off and let it sit for an hour or so. It started up fine. I downloaded google chrome and when trying to change some settings the "restart your comp by holding down the power button" message came up. When restarting the crazy beep came back. Now everything seems fine but while typing the comp made the noise like it wants to eject a cd.

My November 2011 17" MacBook Proi has on several occasions gone to a black screen, which requires hard shutdown and re-boot. It happens in two ways: coming out of sleep, the screen appears for a second and then goes black, and sometimes when jjust using the Mac.Â
It comes back on after re-boot with no apparent problems but seems to be occuring more frequently, so I need to get this fixed.Â

I have a Sony GV-D1000 MiniDV Video Walkman that must be six plus years old? I haven't used it for two years.Today I attempted to plug it into my new MacMini running Lion 10.7.3 -- and quickly discovered I did not have the correct Firewire cable.  The MacMini needs this newest mini input IEEE1394b Firewire 800 port Mbps 8 pin.My Sony GV-D1000 has an output  i.LINK DV Interface IEEE1394a 400 Mbps 4 pin  I dashed to the store and bought a cable with those connectors. Rocketfish RF-AP309 from Best Buy. Crud!! The MacMini cannot see the Video Walkman. I tried connecting, re-connecting… turning the Walkman off/on. Restarted the MacMini. Nothing. Tried this with my latest version of iMovie '11 -- and with iMovie HD vers 6.0.3. Neither video softwares can see the Sony GV-D1000.  OK, Plan B:I pulled out my MacBook Pro 17" early 2008 (purchased new March 2008) running Lion 10.7.3.The new firewire cable just purchased will not work plugged into the MBP….. Next I grab a 400 Mbits FireWire IEEE 1394a. Plug that into the MPB and the other end into the Walkman. It works! It peforms well with both video software's.  But… I want to work on the new MacMini. Would I have purchased a defective cable? Or is there something about the MacMini that won't accept the signal from the Sony GV-D1000? Â

What would be the best format to export video in iMovie 09 using quicktime when the source is NTSC DV format? Something that wont take as much space as DV AVI, but still looks very good.

What is the best export method (file type and settings) for exporting HD video to be converted using Handbrake? I use handbrake to convert my HD video to be played on my iPad. And I want to edit the video first in iMovie, then export the movie to handbrake to be converted to play on my iPad.
My biggest concern is exporting from iMovie, I want the best possibly quality.

I filmed a show with 2 different cameras (one is a canon vixia, the other is a canon dos 7D, i realize the quality is different for them) and I used the multi cam editor to match h up the clips and audio file to switch back and forth. I think i created proxy media to use for the multi cam clip. Whenever i export my movie, the movie plays with horizontal lines, and whenever there is faster motion, the person gets blurred. What is making final cut pro x export like this? How do I fix this? I've tried exporting with Apple ProRes 422, Apple ProRes 422 (Proxy), and H.264, but all video files have the lines going through it and the motion is a bit blurry.

Right now im working on a video at school. We have 2006 Quad core mac pros with final cut express. I exported my video in 1080P and it took about 20 minutes to export. But when I went to export it in standard def it says 1 hour remaining. Why is HD exporting 3x faster then SD? Im really confused. I have plenty of ram and CPu Im lost.

I often shoot short videos with my iPhone. I bring them into FCPX and edit it. Â
The problem is when I export it, it will have black bars on the side once its back on my iPhone. It will never just export to fit the screen like it did when I shot the video. I tried to customize the aspect ratio but it only gives me set options.Â

Finally I will replace an old white core duo IMAC that we use in our house. Besides the basic stuff like doing kids homework, my main intensive use is to use imovie for family video editing. I have a HD sony camcorder and with my current mac its impossible to work. Now with the new imacs I would like to know what option will be better for those long processes in imovie (importing, exporting, stabilization, etc). better processor: core 2 duo 3.06 or i5 more memory: 4 vs 8 gb better graphics: 4670 vs 4850.

I have had this problem quite a while now:When I open an .avi file it automatically opens using QuickTime. I'd like that because it's the best player for Apple. The problem is however that I can only hear the sound, there's no image/video.I use 10.7.2. (now updating to 10.7.3), but it already did this before I had OSX Lion installed. If I search for new updates it doesn't come up with an update for QuickTime.Any other player works (although VLC's the only one I tried so far).

I came back from work to wake up my iMac. It made the noise but the screen stayed black. I tried restarting by holding the power button- I can hear it start and the chime but still have a black screen. I tried resetting the pram, and unplugging the cord but I still get a black screen. I can hear the chime though; I'm not sure if that means anything. I just had the hard drive replaced in February so I hope it's not that. just wanted to clarify that when I restart, I get the chime but the screen stays black- I don't get to the grey screen. So I'm assuming right now that my display may be shot?

With Quicktime X player, I read that performance for viewing content on the web would be faster - similar to iPhone. I understood that I can view streamed video - speeding up the experience of watching videos from various websites.
When will MobileMe enable this streaming so I can view my videos on MobileMe using the new client? Is it a matter of me to upgrade my videos that I post to the web site or do we need to wait till MobileMe service upgrades to this capability?
