So I have a DYNEX 21 inch HD TV conected up to my MBP via the VGA connection route. My problem is that when I want a program (or more specifically in this case a game) to go into fullscreen mode it automatically goes to my primary monitor and turns the other screen black. I know I can switch the primary monitor from my actual laptop screen to the TV however I just want the game to be full screen on the TV while still having access to my dock and everything on my laptop.
View 2 Replies View RelatedA couple days ago my mac book pro (with snow leopard) stopped allowing me to play videos. An embedded video in an article comes up as all black or missing altogether (a large white space in the article). If I go to YouTube, the "screen" is black.

As the headline says the right half of the screen turns black when watching video content in iTunes on full screen. I can see the whole picture when moving the mouse a little but as soon as the navigation bar disappears the right half of the picture disappears too. It does not matter what source it is. Both podcasts and movies work (or do not work) the same.
The problem doesn't occur for other player (VLC, XBMC etc.).
I have the latest OS (10.9.4) and iTunes (11.4). The computer is MBP 13-inch retina, late 2012 if it matters.

I'm doing my best not to panic here but I'm sure you can feel my pain. I got up this morning, made my coffee and opened up my MBP to start my day.
I can hear that start up sound but the screen is completely black. Nothing. It was fine yesterday and I didn't do anything different when I closed it to put it in sleep mode. But now it won't wake up. I pulled the battery, let it cool (seemed a little warm since I just started it)....still black screen.
Can anyone provide any advice on how to fix?
I have this powerbook from 2005 and no problems up to now..ohhh no!
A couple of days ago started to occasionally make a clank clank noise and getting stacked on the spinning colour circle, only manual restart would do it.
Thought it might be the hard disk as it is a bit old and i never replaced anything on it, shacked it and a noise of something loose would happen, so i thought of opening it up and see if i could reattach anything loose....anyway i started unscrewing following instructions, couldn't get memory out...every screw seems different and so i gave up, put it all back together, praying that the screws are all in their right places and hey, now it wont even start, not a loose sound when shaken though, but not a bip not a light, black screen, nothing...only sign of life is the green light under the num block key and the capitals arrow also starts light
I have a Macbook 2009 that wont turn on. When you press the power key you hear the normal boot chime but no picture appears.
The laptop was given to me without any hard drive, so I installed a blank 250GB HDD. The HDD has no OS on it, and I am not sure how it is currently formatted as it is new.
Even when I use an external screen and regardless of whether a HDD is present the macbook does not show any sign of life on the screen or external screen but still chimes.
I know it would be a good idea to boot with restore discs etc, but even if no OS is present surely the screen should still come on and display the gray and apple logo? I did all the resets and holding button configurations on startup, such as reset PRAM.

I've had problems with my Mac for a while now. First of all, it indicated ram problems with 2 beeps. I later fixed this by moving and changing around modules. It was solved, but now a new problem. The Mac seems to turn on, making its iconic sound for startup, but the screen remains black. After about a half to one minute, the fans go crazy and I have to shut it off. I've tried a few things like holding shift or alt, but that doesn't work as it doesn't even display a white screen.
I need to know what to do and I don't really have the time to buy new parts right now. I'm really a windows based pc fixer by the way so I'm new to fixing macs.

I’m using Quicktime Pro 10.1 with Lion and when I export a clip, I get a file with audio but no video. I had this problem on my other MacBook and found a suggestion that I remove a file from the library but I can’t find the suggestion now and don’t remember what I removed.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a last gen. white macbook. I was watching a youtube video today and firefox shut down. When it restarted it shutdown again. I decided to restart my computer. When it was restarting, a message popped up saying I needed to restart by holding down the power button. After pushing the power button the screen went black. I then pushed the power button again and my computer made this horrible beeping noise until I pressed the power button again. In doing this process more than once the mac start up "chord Bing" happened over and over until I pressed the power button. I got the comp turned off and let it sit for an hour or so. It started up fine. I downloaded google chrome and when trying to change some settings the "restart your comp by holding down the power button" message came up. When restarting the crazy beep came back. Now everything seems fine but while typing the comp made the noise like it wants to eject a cd.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy November 2011 17" MacBook Proi has on several occasions gone to a black screen, which requires hard shutdown and re-boot. It happens in two ways: coming out of sleep, the screen appears for a second and then goes black, and sometimes when jjust using the Mac.
It comes back on after re-boot with no apparent problems but seems to be occuring more frequently, so I need to get this fixed.

I'm having a rather annoying problem playing videos on itunes. Instead of the video, I'm getting a white screen with sound. In full screen mode, I'm getting a blank screen, also with sound but no controls pop up when I move the mouse around. I'm getting this with episodes of Lost I downloaded from the itunes store (as well as previews on the itunes store), as well as the "Jake and Amir" podcast. Curiously, if I open the Jake and Amir podcast in VLC it runs fine, but if I try the Lost episodes in VLC they come out without sound OR video. The Onion podcast, on the other hand, works just fine in itunes. This problem, I think, only goes back to when I got the latest version of Itunes.

Ever since I've had my Mac, about three times a day my screen will go completely black after I've moved the cursor very quickly or in a herky-jerky motion. I don't think I'm pressing down on the right or left--it just seems to be some motion.

Lately, as of two days ago. My iMac has been freezing and the screen just goes either black or another color that's on the screen. I was doing a conference call today, when my screen went black and I couldn't get the picture back. The audio ect worked fine, but the screen on my side went black. The computer has been freezing a lot since I upgraded the lion OS to the latest one. It runs faster, but freezes too much.

Sometimes, when my iMac has been "resting" and I then move the cursor using track pad I get a stream of black squares on the screen. The more I move the cursor the more black squares I get. If I switch off and then on the screen is ok. This is an intermittent occurrence.
