My Macbook is brand new! (Barely 4 months old) Just recently my laptop will flash a black screen. It starts from the bottom and quickly flashes up the screen higher and higher each flash! i have read on some other pages it is a bad inverter on the inner core of the Macbook. Other than that I do not know what to do!

I currently have the 17" and of course the screen resolution is very nice- but it a bit of beast to lug about.
Given that the computer scales images to fit the resolution of the screen. Why does having a higher resolution screen matter? I mean I can play 1080p video on a 13 inch MBP and it still looks good. Why do people complain so much about how intolerable the low screen resolution is on the MBPs. Apple must have some kind of magic because images and video look great to me. Take a 13 inch MBP, would the same 1440x900 sized picture look that much better if the native resolution was 1440x900? If the quality loss is so noticeable how has Apple been able to get away with shipping the product?

Considering the cost of the damn thing I'd expect a higher-res screen; plus I've been staring my 15" MBP sitting beside my 1920x1200 monitor for almost 2 years and it's looking decidedly dated.
I've repaired broken laptops before, and I've got a friend with access to GSX service manuals so I'd be able to do the handwork. Unfortunately, I know damn all about panel compatibility. Basically I'd replacing a stock Apple panel with one sourced from a parts warehouse. I know Apple has a fetish for unusual mounts and hard-to-replace parts so my biggest fear would be buying a replacement panel and finding out that Apple uses panels with non-standard screw placements or brackets or something like that.
So my question is thusly, if I could find a 15.4" panel (and I know they do exist, HP has a couple of notebooks with 15.4"/1920x1200 panels) could I remove the screen from the alu MBP and drop in the replacement screen?I'd love to hear from someone who has tried it or succeeded, or even if it's just possible
Computer starts (keyboard lit, music plays, caps lock light on), but no screen. I need to open and close 2 - 30 times before the screen will turn on. Once on, the computer works perfectly. I've tried PRAM and safemode reset.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIt happened twice in a row about a week ago (and then stopped, so I figured I'd let it go), but it just happened again right now, so I'm figuring there's got to be something else going on. My only guess would be the battery... but I just had that replaced a few months ago, so it seems kind of odd to be having problems already. If it is the battery, how severe of a problem would this be? Is there something I could do to fix it, or can I just live with it until the end of the school year... or do I need to have this fixed ASAP? (And on the off chance that this is a related problem, my speakers have been making that funny crackling/static sound when I wake the computer up from sleep... I was reading some threads about that around here, but to the best of my knowledge the problem was never really resolved.)

I came back from work to wake up my iMac. It made the noise but the screen stayed black. I tried restarting by holding the power button- I can hear it start and the chime but still have a black screen. I tried resetting the pram, and unplugging the cord but I still get a black screen. I can hear the chime though; I'm not sure if that means anything. I just had the hard drive replaced in February so I hope it's not that. just wanted to clarify that when I restart, I get the chime but the screen stays black- I don't get to the grey screen. So I'm assuming right now that my display may be shot?

I have a 2007 or so Macbook Pro that when I turn it on, it "dings" and sounds like it's starting up but then the screen is just BLACK. This happened before, about a year ago, so I don't want to fix it as I think it will just keep happening. My question is, can I connect a dual-USB to it and my iMac to transfer files from it? Or how can I get my files off my MBPro to my iMac without spending $$$ to get a pro to take out the hard drive and etc.?

My 2007 MacBook is starting up and making all the right noises but the screen stays black - looking on different forums it seems likely it is either the back light or the inverter that need fixing but in the meantime there is some things on there I need - I have an IMac as well and I have tried to connect the too so that I can view the macbook on the imac - I used a firewire cable and held down the t key on the macbook (but obviously couldn't see if it had worked) I then turned on the Imac and held the option key down but it only give me the IMac HD to start from and not the Macbook
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy MacBook is making the startup sound but goes straight to a black/dark grey screen. In other words you can see the screen switching on but it's blank. It's in charge mode, has no other external peripherals attached and it's updated to most recent OSX Yosemite.
I only purchased it in May of this year (refurbished). I have tried booting in to safe mode but again the screen remains the same.
After installing windows 7 on my new iMac the system wants to reboot, so i let it. When it does, i press down the option key and choose it to start in Widows, but now the screen turns black, and windows never starts. i dont know what to do.
View 1 Replies View Relatedthere are two things that the macbook is doing to me. one is that sometimes when i move the screen up or down (the hinge is rather stiff) a white (thin) line flashes across the screen. but recently, while randomly browsing through the internet, the screen almost... i guess faded to a gray screen, but like gradually, and not like a kernel error, like the display just faded away. happened twice in a row, did a battery pull and now wont do it again.

I have a new 13" and, every so often, the screen brightness dims and then brightens very quickly (happens in less than a second).The option for auto-adjusting the screen brightness is off so it's not that particular function.It's most noticeable on all-white backgrounds both on AC and battery power. Hard drive access doesn't seem to coincide with the dimming.
View 17 Replies View RelatedI've got a 2007 Macbook Pro. It's on its second graphics card (8600M GT), the first one failed on me a year ago. OS X 10.5.7, all firmware updates installed.
I think I have a new graphics card issue, but I can't prove it. In Front Row, after 10-20 minutes, often parts of the screen will start going black. Then it freezes. Sound works fine. It doesn't look like the same kind of wild distortion that I got when my GPU failed the first time, though, it just looks like things have been rendered incorrectly.
When Front Row finally quits, I've had black and white bars across my menu bar a couple of times. Once the computer then totally locked up and I had to reboot.
In Windows XP in boot camp, things are worse. I only use boot camp for games, since they use a lot of graphical power, it made sense that the problems happen there more often. After 15-20 minutes, the screen will start stuttering, then the keyboard/mouse will stop responding. The sound will hiccup a few times too. That lasts about 10 seconds, then everything returns to normal for a while (as little as 10 seconds, or as long as 5 minutes.)
The Apple Hardware Test (short and extended) shows no trouble. Techtool Pro shows no trouble. I ran the very thorough memtest86+, and it showed no memory trouble.
Can anybody give me any tips on definitively diagnosing this problem? Is there any kind of really intensive hardware test I can get (a live CD maybe)?
Second question, has anybody heard of Apple replacing a laptop that has had many faults with a brand new unit?
I have a 13 inch Mac-Pro with 2.3 GHz and Intel core i5, will I be able to update it to 2.4 or higher? SMCFanControl lets me set a higher minimum fan speed on my MacBook Pro (I like to keep it at about 3600rpm instead of 2000rpm minimum). Is there a way to do this with the MacBook Air? SMCFanControl doesn't seem to detect the MacBook Air properly. Essentially I want it to run at around 3600rpm and increase to 6200rpm as needed. It should never be running lower than 3600rpm.

I have a 15" Powerbook G4 that is about 4.5 years old. Last night the screen started to flash for about a second and then went to almost black. (there is a very very faint image remaining of the screen)... from surfing some forums, it sounds like this could have something to do with the backlight or the inverter (whatever that is?).
The powerbook seems to be working fine otherwise, I was able to connect it to my 30" (which was amusing) to archive all data off of it, so nothing was lost. Techtool diagnostics all ran fine (nothing in there to repair a display).
I suppose the basic question is if anyone knows much about what the problem is - and if its worth investigating repair vs just diving in and buying a new one...some additional info found on Apples boards, but still curious if anyone has opinions/insight towards the cost and trouble of this repair:My screen looks black, but I can see very faint graphics on it
Symptoms of this are a dark screen, but everything else seems to be running. If you get in close with a flashlight, you can usually see the image faintly.
Backlight
If your backlight isn't working, the inverter may be bad. Other parts that may be bad are the display or the logic board. If your backlight fails intermittently while moving the display, the problem is with the inverter cables. Otherwise it is impossible to test for damaged parts without replacing them one by one. If you are comfortable taking apart the display assembly, replace the display inverter first, then replace the LCD. If you are not comfortable with this, you can replace both parts at once by replacing the display assembly (which contains both components). If this still doesn't solve your problem, you need a new logic board.
So I bought my MBP this past May and didn't have problems with it until now. I recently opened up my photo booth and noticed that the display flashes very quickly into different lightings/colors. It's very strange because the ceiling fan isn't on, and my MBP is sitting still. I've never seen this issue on anyone else's MBP either. I'm leaving for college very soon and don't want to leave unhappy with my MBP. If I visit the genius bar, will they give me a replacement with my one-year warranty?

I think this is pretty dumb - the system should do this for you.
