Dec 31, 2010I recently bought and started using the universal dock on my MBP with my iPod. I'm trying to figure out how to make the remote only work on the iPod, or mac, and not both. I tried syncing it to the dock and while my MBP was off, but it still works on both at the same time.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: How To Block PC From MacBook Devices
Apr 14, 2012I have a windows PC from work that I use at home and I connect to the Internet from the PC and all my other devices using Time Capsule. The PC connects to work on a work VPN but it also shows up on my Devices list on my MacBook. Is there a way to prevent the PC from connecting to the MacBook and to stop it showing up in Devices? I assume it's a OS issue but maybe it can be done in Time Capsule. Either way, I have no idea what to look for.Â
Here's why I want to do that. I have two external USB drives connected to my MacBook and they both keep staring and stopping at a minute or less interval. I finally realized that this only occurs when the PC is on and listed in Devices. So I'm pretty sure that the PC is doing something across the network that is causing the USB drives to spin up when they would otherwise be idle. I think it would fix the problem if I could prevent the PC from finding the MacBook.Â

Jul 1, 2010I got the clear moshi clear guard keyboard cover, it seemed to be one of the best ones out there, however I just read in a thread, that they can block venting & cause it to run hotter. Is this true? where does the mac vent out heat? I thought a keyboard cover was a good idea, to protect from spills etc.

MacBook :: Charger Buzzing From Block And Outlet?
May 21, 2012My MacBook charger has always sparked a little when I plug it in (not every time, but often), which I've read is normal, but lately, I've also been getting a pretty loud buzzing sound both from the block and from the outlet. I have taken the disconnectable cord off the block, made sure all the connections looked clean, then made sure it was reconnected snugly, but I still have the problem. I've been having to unplug and replug from the socket several times to get the buzzing to stop (if it makes a difference, I always plug into the wall before I plug into the laptop, so the charger is plugged into nothing when I plug it into the wall. The sound starts as soon as the LED turns orange, and continues intermittantly, especially if I move the mouse. The block, itself, doesn't seem any hotter than normal). The cord is undamaged, but the prongs are a little scored up at the tips. It seems to happen more readily when the charge is below 65%. I did have water damage occur several years ago (I got lucky: The only problem I had was a messed up battery), but have had no other problems with my MacBook. I've only plugged it into an alternate outlet when the charge is above the 65% mark, and have gotten no noise from the other outlet, but can't say for sure if it's because it's a different outlet or if it's because my charge is above 65%.Â
I am planning on bringing it in to see if I can get my cracked palm rest repaired (if it's covered despite being out of warranty, which I have read/been told by a fellow MacBook owner that it is) and to see about upgrading to Lion, and I plan to have them check the cord and battery (Which no longer warns when it wants to be plugged in and is at 349 cycles), but I was wondering if this is something I should be concerned about, and to see if anyone else has had an issue with it.

MacBook Pro :: Power Outage On Neighborhood Block - Plugged In But Not Powered On
Nov 4, 2010Will this have done any damage? The macbook pro was not powered up, but I had the the mac ac adapter plugged into a power strip with the magsafe adapter connected to the laptop, since I keep it plugged into ac all the time at my desk. The power strip was on while the power outage happened. I had the 3 prong extender cord of the magsafe plugged into the power strip. The power outage was due to a problem with some power lines in my neighborhood, not from a surge of overuse of fuses in my home, so my whole block was without power for about 2 hours.I did notice the power strip has always had 2 lights on; one red, not protected, & one green, grounded. The outlets in my room are only 2 prong, so I have a 2 to 3 prong adapter plugged into the wall that the power strip plugs into. I know this is not the best, but my house is a 1950's era house, & I do not have the knowledge & have safety concerns about trying to convert my bedroom outlets to 3 prong. I hope this did not cause damage to my macbook pro. Is there anything I need to do before powering the mac on to use the next time? besides convert my 2 prong outlet to 3 prong? will there be any static charge? this outage happened on a very hot & dry day in my area.

Jun 23, 2009Until several days ago I had no problems on myspace. I am a filmmaker and in a band/book shows, and myspace serves as a great place to promote and find contacts. However, the myspace music player hangs up any browser I attempt to use on my Macbook (OS X 10.5.7). Regardless of which myspace music site it is, the myspace music player freezes the browser and I constantly have to do a force quit. When I restart the computer, the music player will actually load (it usually hangs before it even loads) briefly, and freeze up the browser once more. I used Flashblock to locate the source (as many other forums have suggested) and it definitely is only the myspace flash music player. No other flash effects my browsers.

Mar 26, 2012I seem to be getting an error message when i run Disk Utility, it says "Invalid Block Count, your disk is corrupt and needs to be repaired".  I then repair it using the Lion recovery disk and it repairs it. Maybe a month or so down the line it appears again I then do the same and the end result is the same, can anyone help with this as it is worrying me. Also is there any way you can get rid of the bad sectors in the HDD when problems appear?Â

But I was just wondering if there is a way to block computers from using my wireless? Here is the deal. I have a router set up which uses a WPA password. I live in a apartment building so I gave the password to some of my close friends to use. I monitor who is on my network through just looking at the "shared" section on my finder window. I can tell which computers belong to my friends, but every once in a while, an unknown computer pops up. I believe I have seen 3 unknown computers (PC's) - and they do not use the net frequently. I would like to block these computers when they come up. Is there a way to do this without going into the router settings and adjusting those protocols?
