OS X V10.7 Lion :: How To Block PC From MacBook Devices
Apr 14, 2012
I have a windows PC from work that I use at home and I connect to the Internet from the PC and all my other devices using Time Capsule. The PC connects to work on a work VPN but it also shows up on my Devices list on my MacBook. Is there a way to prevent the PC from connecting to the MacBook and to stop it showing up in Devices? I assume it's a OS issue but maybe it can be done in Time Capsule. Either way, I have no idea what to look for.
Here's why I want to do that. I have two external USB drives connected to my MacBook and they both keep staring and stopping at a minute or less interval. I finally realized that this only occurs when the PC is on and listed in Devices. So I'm pretty sure that the PC is doing something across the network that is causing the USB drives to spin up when they would otherwise be idle. I think it would fix the problem if I could prevent the PC from finding the MacBook.
I just jailbroke my iPhone 3GS and installed MyWi to work with my iPad. I also tried it on my MacBook Pro using Bluetooth. After I paired my iPhone and MacbBook Pro together everything worked fine. Now under the Airport Menu I see a separate category labeled "Devices" which is just below where my Home Network is.
My questions is how do I go about deleting this? I've tried everything. I deleted my device under Bluetooth Preferences, quit MyWi, messed around with the Network Preferences and it still appears under the Airport Menu. I even clicked connect but of course that doesn't work since I quit everything and deleted the device in Bluetooth settings. It's not even listed under "Preferred Networks" when you click on the advanced tab. It appears as "(my last name) Hotspot" and is under a tab labeled "Devices"
My next previous computer was a powerbook circa 2003, and I got it up to 10.4..and I could easily manage cookies, see what they were and who from- AND when Isaid block them it WORKED.What the **** is going on with this bit where they offer a block 3rd arty cookies and from advertisers - chcek box, but it STOPS NOTHING?
How many ios devices can be managed using Lion Server MDM? We are getting ready to deploy approx 150 ipad and are debating whether to use Lion Server's MDM or to purchase a commercial application.
I got a new 2TB hard drive, and I'm trying to format it as HFS+ journaled case sensitive encrypted, each time I try I get the following error: "MediaKit reports block size error, usually caused by not being a multiple of 512." This is a brand new drive, it has a GUID partition map with one partition, that was created by Disk Utility, and the disk passed a full hardware scan from Drive Genius. Normally when I get an error I can google it, but this particular error only gives me links to RAID problems, and I'm not doing anything with RAID. What determines the block size? I did not get an option to set it anywhere that I could see. How do I fix this error and get my drive encrypted?
Occurring starting about last month, this has gone from a seldom, to all the time situation. plugging in any USB memory device either directly to the computer, or with cables, will allow the files to be accessed/changed/deleted by programs, but the device with it's files will not show in finder. The device shows in System information. I have set Finder to show everything, but they no longer apear. Before failing entirely, I would sometimes have the device show for a short time, then get an "Improper removal" error, without touching the device, after a few moments. All these memory devices still function properly when used in external devices and when direcly accesed by software. Not being able to use finder to modify content is a significant problem.
Does anyonme know if when you have multiple mac products (i.e. I have an iPad, iPhone, Macbook and an iMac) and you have the same mail accounts set up on all of them if can set it that when you read an eamil on one device it appears as read on all the other devices? Annoying having to go through all 4 devices to "read" the emails.
So recently I got a new Macbook Pro. It works great, but as soon as it connects to the wireless internet in our house, my husbands hp computer will have horrible connection. Same for my husbands xbox 360. If he trys to play Modern Warfare 3 or any online game on his360 while Im is connected to the internet, he will have one bar ofI connection and the game will be unplayable. Same if he trys and play diablo 3 on my laptop. Went from 90-110 msec to over 2500+ once connected.
I know absolutely nothing about macs, so there isnt much I can do there. Have tried connecting with ethernet cords and same thing occurs. Just to be warned I am not super tech savvy, so please explain any ideas to your best abilities.
I'm running Lion OS X server and I have set up a printer on my server (the printer is not AirPrint friendly). What I want to do is set it up the printer so that I can get iPads and iPhones to be able to see that printer and print to it. I tried a program called Printopia 2 but it did not work, now I am not sure if it is becasue I have to set up something in system preferences or something similar. I have enbaled the printer to be shared.
I would like to set-up a mac mini as the download point for IOS devices (instead of have 30 devices access the Internet for the same download, just have the Mac mini access the Internet for the download(s) and the devices would, in turn, download the updates from the local Mac.
I have an MacBook Pro with 10.5.8, iMac with 10.7.3, iPhone 4S and the new iPad. My problem is that I want to sync my emails with all my devices (like google email) but I cant do it properly because my work email is a POP server. Changing my email server to IMAP is not a option currently.
I recently bought and started using the universal dock on my MBP with my iPod. I'm trying to figure out how to make the remote only work on the iPod, or mac, and not both. I tried syncing it to the dock and while my MBP was off, but it still works on both at the same time.
Safari 7.0.4 does not block the In-app flash ads... I tried Glimmberblocker, Safari extension, actually downloaded safari adblock from their site. Non of them works. how to block the flash in-app ads?
Info: MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mavericks (10.9.3)
I have an OSX Lion 10.7.4 Server set up with Profile Manager and it is joined to AD.
I am able to see AD groups in the Profile Manager groups section. I can also see and add AD users and groups using the server app.
I have enabled the "Can Enable Remote Management" check box for Domain Users through Profile Manager. I have also added Domain Admins to the Workgroup group in the Server app. I'm not sure that I want or need either of these options, but they were suggestions to try. I am not able to log on to the Profile Manager or My Devices pages with AD logins.
I found these directions about nested groups in Workgroup Manager [URL] but I don't have a [URL] local group or any groups like are shown in the picture.
I got the clear moshi clear guard keyboard cover, it seemed to be one of the best ones out there, however I just read in a thread, that they can block venting & cause it to run hotter. Is this true? where does the mac vent out heat? I thought a keyboard cover was a good idea, to protect from spills etc.
