MacBook Pro :: Frequent Crashing When ITunes Loaded - No Errors In Console?
Jun 17, 2012
I have an early 2011 17" MacBook Pro which is freezing up a lot, this only seems to happen with iTunes is loaded. The machine runs perfectly when iTunes isn't running, and it'll run for a little while when it is open, but then eventually all programs will freeze, leaving only the cursor moving. That will then stop moving as well and the entire machine will stay stuck as it is - the only thing that can be done at this point is to power it off. Closing the lid has no effect - the screen stays on and the machine does not sleep.
I've tried various things to fix this based on other threads with similar issues:
- Reset SMC and PRAM
- Reinstalled iTunes
- Disabled automatic graphic card switching
- Installed all latest updates - this seems to have made the problem worse
- Stopped my iPod touch and iPhone from syncing over wifi and made sure they aren't plugged in either
- Ran AHT, no problems reported
- Repaired disk permissions
- Reinstalled Mac OS
- Left the machine in its frozen state to see if it would wake up (it didn't, even after leaving it all night)
Every time this happens, I have a look at the Console to see if any errors were logged during the crash, but it seems there aren't any - the last few lines before reboot are always different and seem to have no real pattern to them.
Specs:
Early 2011 17" Macbook Pro Intel Core i7 2.3GHz
8GB RAM
Mac OS X 10.7.4
iTunes 10.6.3

Alright so someone needed the errors for a program, and I noticed there were several other errors for programs that are no longer on my mac. Is there any way to figure out how to make my mac stop looking for these things to rid the errors from Console?

It appears as if my wife's Mac was hacked last weekend. I am not a nubie to computers but am not so familiar with security fr a Mac. I am trying to see if the Whole Foods website is the cause of this hack. Below explains what happened. On Sat 7/17/10, at about 11:30am we began getting telephone calls that my wife's TWO separate email accounts (one Yahoo and one Hotmail) had sent out an email that we had made a "surprise" visit to London and had been attacked and robbed etc and the email asked for money. A second email was sent a half an hour later asking for money to be wired to a Western Union reference number. Upon checking my wife's Yahoo account from a different computer than my wife's Macbook, I found the account password had been changed. After notifying Yhaoo that her account had been compromised, I learned that her Hotmail account had also been sending emails as well. The passwords are different for each of the accounts. Rebooting the machine after finding out of these emails took an unusually long time. Clearly something was amiss. As we later found out, the Yahoo account, my wife's primary account, had been setup to forward all her mail to forward.forward@hotmail.com the "bad guy's" drop account to collect her email. Her Hotmail account had not been setup to do this though. The culprit must have been her Mac Mail program on her Macbook-- only this has the capability to retrieve both accounts. No other computer has this capability. The passwords for both accounts were saved on the Macbook. My wife had no security in place-- admin p'word was blank, no firewall etc. This has been changed. What log file in the Console can I look at to see what went on during the time that I think a compromise took place? I have since loaded IAntivirus (free)on her machine.
How can I ensure that nothing has been loaded onto her machine that will give someone a backdoor into our network or her machine. Could a keystroke logger have been loaded as well, maybe a backdoor port? How can I see what programs have been loaded? My wife uses the latest version of Firefox at all times. The newest version downloaded this week, so she was using the prior, most up to date version at the time I think an attack occurred. Ditto for the OS. I have thought about a localized attack-- one that occurs when someone is within physical proximity of the laptop, but we live in a suburb and she rarely takes the laptop out of the house.

A lot of these errors keep "polluting" my Console daily. I've reset Dock, but nothing changes. What are these msgs all about? I've had these for long time (possibly even in Leopard - I don't remember exactly).

My 2009 iMac will not go to sleep by itself. It will go to sleep when it's induced but not automatically. I have been through several Apple support documents on this issue and searched here and on Google but nothing they suggest like resetting PRAM etc., works. I have been through console to see if I can find any errors and the only thing there is a couple of entries related to my Targus Bluetooth mouse. I have tried disabling and uninstalling this, updating the driver etc., and it doesn't make any difference.

I recently (2 months ago) purchased a new mac book pro and migrated everything from my older mac book pro running Snow Leopard to Lion.Since moving to Lion I have been experiencing frequent crashes of Mac Mail, I spend a large portion of my work day in mail and experience this as many as a dozen times a day. Mac Mail will crash while
1) composing an email,
2) when clicking a link in an email
3) clicking the attachment icon to add an attachment
4) clicking on an attachment that has been sent to me
5) somestimes just trying to exit/close Mac Mail and the it hangs and I have tp force quit. After Mac Mail crashes and is restarted, clicking on the same link or attachment will workI have removed my mail IMAP folder and settings and re-established the connection from scratch but the problem persists.I have ran the disk permissions repair utility and the problem persists. I have ran the verfiy disk utility and it reports no problems.I have ran the Apple hardware tests including the extended tests and no hardware issues are found. Has one experienced somewthing similiar?Does anyone have any suggestions where to start looking for the root cause? All crash reports seem to look [code]

Just loaded OS X 10.5.1 on my G4 Powerbook which has all other 'original' software. Still learning to navigate (and find all files etc., which don't reappear in original format...) but MAJoR problem is cannot open iphoto which worked perfectly beforehand. Just crashes instantly. Computer suggest i relaunch, then crashes again, instantly, and then suggests reload and relaunch and, then crashed again. Would ideally hope my photo library is still intact

I'm trying to delete my 'serious errors' fonts and 'warning' fonts from Font Book. I have a silly amount of fonts (something like 3500!) and when i select the 'serious error' ones and click 'Remove Checked' Font Book crashes. Well it gives me the spinning kaleidscope mouse working symbol....for ever.

Since iTunes 9 came out the improved Home Sharing features has been quite useful to me, but today when I re-formatted my computer I ran into some problems. Both computers are using Windows XP, one is connected via Ethernet and the other one--which I reformatted, let's call it Computer B--connects to the router wirelessly.
I have activated each computer for Home Sharing properly but from Computer B, I can't access Computer A's library. On Computer A, I can access Computer B's shared library and listen to music as normal, at least for a moment - after being connected to the library for a period of about two minutes, it will suddenly disconnect itself and the icon will disappear so I am unable to reconnect. It's strange how I can connect to the library perfectly and just out of nowhere it will disconnect.

In Mac OS 10.6, the Console.app had an option to show the "Console Log" which included what looks like the stdout/stderr message of running applications not explicitly sent to syslog. The option showed up as the second option in the system log queries/database queries list on the Log List.In 10.7, the only option is "All Messages" and there does not appear to be a way to view the "console log" as it was in 10.6. Is there a way to turn this on in 10.7? Does the Mac no longer provide a way to see the stdout/stderr messages for running applications (those run as .app and not from terminal)?see attached screen shots (left is 10.6/right is 10.7) with console messages option missing.

I was using a program which opened my console and then I noticed in my console had messages referring to a couple of programs I removed a long time ago by dragging them to the Trash. It seems to be reporting thousands of messages every minute for one of the programs with the message "User or app not found." recurring.
This must be using resources, is there any way to stop this?

I'm trying to run iTunes Match and it simply stalls at stage 1. Yes, I believe I've tried the fixes listed in other places where this seems to have been an ongoing issue since launch - and not all of these work for the people there, either. These include removing stoping and starting Match, stopping and starting Genius, stopping and starting Genius and Match, moving the iTunes Library files and reimporting them as new libraries and so on. Nothing is working for me.
I run iTunes match and it matches "most" of my songs and then stalls. I've left it for days to see how long the stall is and it never clears.Over the last few days' stops and starts, it's matched as follows:
13508 / 14010
13535 / 14010
13541 / 14010
13998 / 14010
[Code]...
iTunes frequently also can't access the iTunes Store or comes up with unknown errors.this is an entirely new music library. I set up my Mac from scratch a few months ago with a new SSD. My music library had a lot of old files sampled at low bit rates - I was re-ripping to flac for my hifi, so I decided to re-rip to iTunes as well at the same time (my previous iTunes Match had lots of stuff it couldn't match, but was uploaded at a low bit rate since that was all that was available). My network connection is wired and I have very good broadband (cable) speed.

I've been having lots of trouble getting itune to work smoothly, having lots of error messages. It frequently says things like" iTunes can’t verify the identity of the server “init.itunes.apple.com”." and other variants with different web addresses. Mostly when I'm trying to use the itunes store. And I've bought a CD recently and when I try to load it at search for the track names it makes the error noise, and a window flashes up saying (ironically ) "no error". This same album is on the itunes store to purchase.

Mac is running latest OSX Mavericks software.... But lately, my Mac is crashing repeatedly when I attempt to use iTunes or iBooks, both also the latest releases. Syncing with either iTunes or iBooks is nearly impossible. No disk repair or verification errors. I am thinking that there is some rogue software glitch that has me. I am thinking that I need to do a factory reset followed by a time machine data recovery.

I'm new here to this forum and I'd like to get some advice. I've had my 2008 macbook 2.4ghz-160gb since august of last year. I upgraded it to 4gb of ram in the early stages and had no issues till lately.
For the last week, almost daily, Id get the beachball for a long period of time. This happens most frequently when I surf the internet. Occasionally this may occur when i play music in itunes but that is probably due to my library being store on an external hd. With that being said though, as I mentioned, it most likely occurs when I surf the internet. Many times, its not just a browser crash but a system wide crash where my mouse can move but when i click anything in the background, it would have no effect (but my mouse can move still). Only way to 'resolve' this was to do a hard shutdown and restart by holding the power button for few seconds. Of course, this issue keeps happening and it pissed me off so I looked around the net to find some possible solutions and many sites claimed flash being an issue. I uninstalled flash and retested and the problem still occurred. Reading maclife, it mentioned about some fsck -fy thing during boot up so i ran that test and found no errors. Restarted again, did some surfing and still the problem.

I'm kinda concerned about my MBP, though nothing's been happening to it as of yet.Basically, I've been putting it through a lot of gaming and encoding recently (this thing performs like a champ).I'm just concerned that any of this could potentially shorten the MBP's life.
I know that excessive heat can shorten logic board life. When encoding, the CPU's around 200-205 degrees Fahrenheit, same for gaming. The fans run fine, and it feels to be about the same temperature every time (I use smcFan Control in OSX and Lubbos in Windows 7).

I took my laptop in yesterday because there was dust inside the screen and they replaced the whole screen and top. However, it now pops open when I pick it up. I'm a student, so it gets carried all over the place in my backpack and I can't have it popping open all the time. It's not upside down or anything, its just when I pick it up. I am leaving to go back to school in a week and I can't drive the 1.5 hours back to the mall again. What can I do? Duct tape?
Also, if I have a campus authorized retailer, can they do repairs?
