OS X V10.7 Lion :: Console Log Missing From Console.app?
Mar 17, 2012
In Mac OS 10.6, the Console.app had an option to show the "Console Log" which included what looks like the stdout/stderr message of running applications not explicitly sent to syslog. The option showed up as the second option in the system log queries/database queries list on the Log List.In 10.7, the only option is "All Messages" and there does not appear to be a way to view the "console log" as it was in 10.6. Is there a way to turn this on in 10.7? Does the Mac no longer provide a way to see the stdout/stderr messages for running applications (those run as .app and not from terminal)?see attached screen shots (left is 10.6/right is 10.7) with console messages option missing.
I was using a program which opened my console and then I noticed in my console had messages referring to a couple of programs I removed a long time ago by dragging them to the Trash. It seems to be reporting thousands of messages every minute for one of the programs with the message "User or app not found." recurring.
This must be using resources, is there any way to stop this?
So I picked up a client two months ago with a mac server (10.6.8). It had been sitting there un-used for 9 months.I created the network and configured services and users, in particular VPN. I got it all set up at the beginning of April. Mid-April I tested VPN again just to make sure it was working (it was).Hadn't heard from them until today when they could not log into the CONSOLE. Not the app or whatnot, but the console. It shakes like a wrong password with the administrator user and does nothing with other users.(all UID/PWD were correct)I was not able to VPN either but after a while I was able to once and saw the symptoms myself via VNC.(I lost the VPN session and was no longer able to VPN back in???)
I am able to SSH into the server with a user ID and SU to administrator (not able to ssh as administrator directly???).I checked the update history and it has not had any updates since my work in April, nor is the command line update tool reporting any new updates available. It has been running 10.6.8 since last year (again, just sitting there).I checked the servermgrd is loaded.I read another dissucsion that says the resolution to the problem is upgrade the OS to 10.7.3 or newer? And isn't that a paid upgrade?(seems fishy at best if that is the case).I don't see an OS update when I check system updates.

Console, which was running fine ever since I had my MBP now, crashes every time I try to load it. Is it possible to reinstall it? The following is a snippet of the crash report which is automatically sent to Apple.
Macbook pro 2.16 C2D iMac 2Ghz C2D Both running 10.7.3
I am trying to connect from my macbook pro to iMac by using remote management with allow access for All Users but cannot get to connect from MBP to iMac. I can connect without problems from iMac to MBP. The macbook pro just sits trying to connect.
I check the log on the iMac and see the new entry appear during connect attempt of: 3/31/12 7:14:55.979 AM ScreensharingAgent: [CL_INVALID_DEVICE] : OpenCL Error : Failed to create context! Invalid device
Firewall turned off on both machines. I have created a new user on the Macbook to see if that could be the solution but still same occurrence.
My imac became very slow all of a sudden (stalls when clicking and typing), 2-3 mths after Lion (not sure it's related), mount_hfs and syslogd taking up 80-99% of CPU in Activity Monitor. After digging online, checked my Console and found repeating messages exceeding 20,000+++. But I'm not sure what is being repeated (sample below).I've already turned off Time Machine.I was able to delete the syslogd activity, but still left with 99% mount_hfs, which 'maybe' related to the 20,000+++ repeated messages. Not sure if it's relevant...but I was digging through my asl folder, and it is up to 10g for a single date for some reason! I've been experiencing problems with my powerbook g4, after upgrading to 10.5 OS. Everytime I log in as admin, I get a grey "computer needs to restart" screen, yet everything works fine when I login as guest. Someone suggested I pull up my console log, but I haven't the slightest what all this means.
Can anyone clarify what this message means; "Apr 16 14:30:39 giles-moriartys-imac Firewall[48]: Stealth Mode connection attempt to TCP <my IP address> from 212.72.49.156:443" Am i right in thinking that my firewall is doing it's job and blocking connection attempts from 212.72.49.156:443? PS I have edit out my own IP address inn the quote above.
What do these messages mean and how can I fix them? They don't cause any problems but I'm really OCD about this type of stuff

I was downloading and updating a new version of calmXav and console came up with an error that something was wrong with my connection and so it was stopped. I have no idea what had happened? Can someone explain to me what console's job is?
This was in my console log. Does this mean my processors are throttling down?

A lot of these errors keep "polluting" my Console daily. I've reset Dock, but nothing changes. What are these msgs all about? I've had these for long time (possibly even in Leopard - I don't remember exactly).
What does this console message mean? com.apple.launchd[1] (org.isc.named[461]): Exited with exit mode:1 com.apple.launchd[1] (org.isc.named): Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds
A few days ago, i noticed a process running in my task manager. Something along the lines of, "Seagate data manager". The reason it was there is because my friend installed some software that would let us use his Seagate hard drive (it would not work on a mac without it). I was annoyed that this process was running on start-up years later when i did not need it any more. I searched though my Mac and found no apparent way to uninstall it, so i decided to find every file that had the word "seagate" and delete it. Probably not my brightest moment, i know, and technically it worked. I dont see the process running any more, but now i am seeing the fruits of my stupidity as i get these 3 messages in console every 10 seconds from what i think is my Mac trying to launch the process, but cant find the files that i deleted. I deleted 2 files. I cant remember exactly what they were called or where they were from. I think one was from "Macintosh HD > Library" and the other was from "Macintosh HD > System". I know that one of the files had the icon that looks like a little white Lego piece (see attachment called "icon"). Â
here is what console says:Â 4/18/12 9:09:01 AMcom.apple.launchd.peruser.501[97](com.seagate.SeagateStorageGauge.plist[794]) posix_spawn("/Library/Application Support/Seagate/Seagate Storage Gauge.app/Contents/MacOS/Seagate Storage Gauge", ...): No such file or directory4/18/12 9:09:01 AMcom.apple.launchd.peruser.501[97](com.seagate.SeagateStorageGauge.plist[794]) Exited with exit code: 14/18/12 9:09:01 AMcom.apple.launchd.peruser.501[97](com.seagate.SeagateStorageGauge.plist) Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds

there seems to be an issue with my mid-2010 MacBook Pro, running OS X Maverick 10.9.4. When in console, precisely every 5 seconds, this same message pops up:Â
It appears as if my wife's Mac was hacked last weekend. I am not a nubie to computers but am not so familiar with security fr a Mac. I am trying to see if the Whole Foods website is the cause of this hack. Below explains what happened. On Sat 7/17/10, at about 11:30am we began getting telephone calls that my wife's TWO separate email accounts (one Yahoo and one Hotmail) had sent out an email that we had made a "surprise" visit to London and had been attacked and robbed etc and the email asked for money. A second email was sent a half an hour later asking for money to be wired to a Western Union reference number. Upon checking my wife's Yahoo account from a different computer than my wife's Macbook, I found the account password had been changed. After notifying Yhaoo that her account had been compromised, I learned that her Hotmail account had also been sending emails as well. The passwords are different for each of the accounts. Rebooting the machine after finding out of these emails took an unusually long time. Clearly something was amiss. As we later found out, the Yahoo account, my wife's primary account, had been setup to forward all her mail to forward.forward@hotmail.com the "bad guy's" drop account to collect her email. Her Hotmail account had not been setup to do this though. The culprit must have been her Mac Mail program on her Macbook-- only this has the capability to retrieve both accounts. No other computer has this capability. The passwords for both accounts were saved on the Macbook. My wife had no security in place-- admin p'word was blank, no firewall etc. This has been changed. What log file in the Console can I look at to see what went on during the time that I think a compromise took place? I have since loaded IAntivirus (free)on her machine.
How can I ensure that nothing has been loaded onto her machine that will give someone a backdoor into our network or her machine. Could a keystroke logger have been loaded as well, maybe a backdoor port? How can I see what programs have been loaded? My wife uses the latest version of Firefox at all times. The newest version downloaded this week, so she was using the prior, most up to date version at the time I think an attack occurred. Ditto for the OS. I have thought about a localized attack-- one that occurs when someone is within physical proximity of the laptop, but we live in a suburb and she rarely takes the laptop out of the house.
