I have a standard Macbook. I bought a mini DVI-VGA adapter so I could connect my Sony LCD Multi Function Display and my Macbook together. The connection works fine, but I am having a serious problem with the display. The monitor shows the wallpaper of my macbook but does not show anything I open. So for example, the wall paper is there, but if I open Safari, it doesn't reflect this on the monitor. Only when I try to change the display preferences on my macbook does something show up on the monitor.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to use external display with my Unibody Aluminium Macbook Pro (NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, 2.26Gh, snow leopard). Cable setting I use is quite complicated as it is: macbook: minidisplay port>hdmi> DVI D : display. Display is LG Flatron W2242T (4:3).So I hooked everything up and macbook detected display without any problem. The problem arises when it comes to resolution. Maximum resolution I can set (and in fact the only except 800xsomething) is 1152x870 and not only it is to low, but also it does not respect 4:3 ratio so it looks quite bad. So bad, that i cant really work on a setup like that. When I try to change resolution to any other, Display goes black. I tried using some apps, but they dont really work.

I just got the latest 13" Macbook Air and hooked it up to my Apple 24 inch LED Cinema Display. It works great but I've noticed that the resolution is not the same as when I had my 2008 Unibody Macbook attached to it. Everything is bigger (i.e. lower resolution) when the MBA is connected. I went into Display Preferences and changed it to the highest resolution but it didn't change. It's not that big a deal, but I thought I'd ask and see if anyone had any suggestions on how to get better resolution on the cinema display. Or is it not possible with the new MBA connected?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 17" MBP, latest model, with the "upgraded" hd matt display. However, I am curious as to whether I could get the glossy screen back by simply replacing the bezel with a black bezel and glossy screen cover as can be found on eBay - eg
[URL]Is the hd upgrade simply the same screen but without the glossy covering and black bezel - or is it in fact a different screen altogether?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI was using my MBP when I noticed that the display (the built in one) looked a little washed out. To make sure my color profile was set to the correct one, I opened up the display panel in System Preferences. The moment I opened it, the display snapped back to its regular appearance. As far as I can tell, it goes into the washed out version after going to screensaver and coming back, and going into display prefs is the only way to restore it. Anyone seen this before or know how to keep it from doing this?

my screen died so i had to get the 27 led and have the atlona converter between the display and mac ( which works fine)Â I logged into my main user and then into user2 my main user's display resolution is set to 2560 and user2 was set to 1920 i opened preferences and switched resolution in user2 to 2560 the screen flashed a bit and logged me out. then it would not log back in (it actually logged me out of the main user too)Â
what happens is that it starts to log in, there were a few finder windows open so, it starts to open those. but it doesn't show any icons or the text with available disk space... there's a beach ball for 30 seconds or so then it just logs back out.Â
it's totally user specific because i can log in and use my main user fine. i can even log in to another user account that i never really used.Â
I tried logging in in safe mode and get the same results. I can log in in with terminal with that user and see it's files, etc... I even tried using command line to move some prefs out out (i put them back after it didn't work).Â
I imagine some file related to the finder is corrupted or something? one of the prefs i tried to move was com.apple.finder.plist as well as bunch of others like windowserver desktop displays, etc...Â

I am a new Mac user, just switched from PC. Problem is that I connected my mini thru its HDMI out with a HDMI cable to my 47in Phillips LCD in its HDMI in. Everything is working fine but because I sit on my bed and use it. I find it to be too small, if I change resolution then I guess I will be losing out on the 1080p and also will need to connect thru VGA not HDMI. Is there any way I can make things look bigger so I can read the txt and everything from far away. Also I am not using a keyboard (only a mouse) so don't think I can zoom. But still I don't want to zoom all the time. Is there any permanent solution.

Just noticed while browsing through the Apple Store that the "Mac" tab no longer contains a separate reference to the conventional Cinema Display, but only to the LED Cinema Display. While the subsequent page contains a link to the conventional line, could this reflect a consolidation of all Cinema Displays to the LED variety is coming sooner than later?
View 2 Replies View RelatedJust bought the 24 LED Cinema Display to use with my new uMBP. The display looks great, but sometimes it's pretty tough to read things on it because the resolution is so high. Is there any way to change the font size for things like Safari, Entourage, Word, etc. JUST on the LED and not on the MBP as well?
View 2 Replies View RelatedFor some peculiar reason, my desktop pictures do NOT change / rotate on my secondary display.
I have a MacBook Pro 15" (Late 2007) running Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and I have dual displays. My primary display (the MBP screen) DOES change / rotate picture every minute, but I want my secondary display to do the same.
It seems that restarting does fix it, but only temporarily. I think it might have to do with plugging/unplugging the secondary display and sometimes if it's working, I disconnect and reconnect the monitor and then the pictures stop rotating.
All my desktop picture settings are correct in System Preferences. I tried unchecking then rechecking the "Change picture:" checkmark, but that doesn't fix anything.
I also tried clicking on different folders in the left column of the Pref Pane, then clicking back on my chosen desktop pictures folder.
I am running on an iMac, 3.06 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo, and it has a display max of 1920 x 1200. I was wondering if there are any workarounds for this? Any apps, or scripts that are safe and will allow me to use a bigger resolution? I am not a tech wiz, but I would love to hear anything you may know of that I can try...Â

when I'm playing something in iTunes, in the small window centered over the Library, I now get an audio level bar display instead of what I would call the normal, default display (shows the item being played, artist, title and all that, plus a progress bar showing where you are in the piece). I can't find a thing about this online elsewhere so far, and have no idea what the iTunes nomenclature for this function or the small centered window above the Library.

I'm trying to write an AppleScript to change the resolution of my external display from 1920x1080 to 800x600 and back to 1920x1080 (it has a few issues and this fixes them, but I'm tired of going into System Preferences to do this all the time). I can get the script to open up System Preferences and option-click the scaled button (so all of the different resolutions come up), but I can't get it to select anything inside of the box where all of the different resolutions are (I can't find what I'm supposed to refer to it as anywhere and if I find something it doesn't work). Here's the code I have right now:
tell application "System Preferences"
reveal anchor "displaysDisplayTab" of pane "com.apple.preference.displays"
end tellÂ
tell application "System Events" to tell process "System Preferences" to tell window "LCDTV16"

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy wife has an iMac (I don't know any other way to identify it e.g. model number), and she has this 3rd party calibration software that I'm trying to use. I am not used to a Mac, and I cannot find the display settings for the monitor. There are no buttons on the monitor, and when I go to preferences, I can only find the brightness control. I've googled this and cannot find a clear, simple answer. I have used every version of Windows (currently on 8.1 on my PC) and it's easy for me on that platform. I suppose it's just that I don't really know how to navigate Mac OS.

My wife's macbook monitor is destroyed due to happy 2 year old. It won't be worthwhile to replace the monitor and it is not fixable without some expensive work being done on it, therefore I would like to use our TV as an external monitor and retire the macbook to being a mediia computer. I have connected it to the TV, and I see an empty desktop, as far as I can determine it looks like it is treating the TV as a secondary display - that the desktop is extended onto - so I cannot actually interact with the normal desktop. When I try to run things using keyboard shortcuts I hear some sounds of things starting, but I don't see anything on the TV.  So what I need to do is to have some way to tell it to treat the secondary display as the primary display. Just bought my mac this saturday so I'm still getting used to not having a pc. In the screen saver option, I was wondering if there's anyway to change the speed by which the pictures change one after each other, and if I choose to have the picture on my desktop background change every 30 seconds how bad will that hurt my battery?
