MacBook Pro :: Change The Display Configuration Of It But Can't See To Open The Preferences?
Apr 10, 2012
I need to change the display configuration of my macbook but I can't see to open the preferences (because the configuration is wrong!) - what can I do?
I have a standard Macbook. I bought a mini DVI-VGA adapter so I could connect my Sony LCD Multi Function Display and my Macbook together. The connection works fine, but I am having a serious problem with the display. The monitor shows the wallpaper of my macbook but does not show anything I open. So for example, the wall paper is there, but if I open Safari, it doesn't reflect this on the monitor. Only when I try to change the display preferences on my macbook does something show up on the monitor.
I have a new macbook pro i5, and the question is if it is possible to change the configuration of what programs will use the nvidia gpu. This is, because I have some writing program that really dont need the nvidia gpu, and the mac use it innecesarily.
I just started my macbook air first time and I wrongly selected another keyboard instead of US during the auto configuration...how to go back and set the US keyboard layout?
There used to be an option for a UPS configuration under System Preferences - Engery Saver for previous versions of OS X. Can this feature still be accessed for OS X 10.9, and if so, how and where?

I have a couple of movies here and i just converted them on .mp4 so i could be able to watch them on my ps3. the movies on my mackbook pro look fantastic, almost like HD! but when i converted them doesn't look as good. I guess i need to change the configuration. How should i put it so the quality wont change THAT much?
I have a macbook a little over a year old. It's my first mac and I love it. Yesterday though it started acting really weird. I first noticed that it was really, really hot and the fan was running. I turned it off and back on and here's what I found out:
Applications are being deleted from macbook. ITunes, IPhoto, iChat have clear question marks over icon. There are 8-10 blank spaces in the Applications folder where applications have been deleted. However, data is still there (ex. pictures still there, but no iPhoto).
Internet= Says I have internet but wont connect.
Cannot open " System Preferences" or "Internet Preferences".
If connected to home computer will connect to internet and allowed to open internet preferences but still no system preferences.
If shut down....takes a while to come back on and starts up 2-3 times.
Also "Preview" is gone. Now " ColorSync Utility" opens.
Is this my hard drive dying? I'm tech challenged, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
How do I change a feature, on system preferences, I believe to stop asking me for an administrative password to authenticate my file transfers from my desktop to my hard drive. It is a real bother to keep putting in a password to transfer files.

So this is a really silly question but I wanted to know, how do you change the name of your home drive? Like I know how you can change the user name in system pref. but how do you change the name next to the little house icon? Because I'm really super bad at explaining things, a picture is attached below.

Recently when trying to download/open a file from the internet - my machine prompted me as usual with the grey box that says: You have chosen to open, then says What should Firefox do with this file? Option: 1) open with (then select the program - i.e. word, internet ,etc) or to 2) save file or 3) do this automatically for files like this from now on. I need to figure out how to un-select the 3rd option.
I've seen 4-5 times where all bluetooth devices stop working all at once, and the Bluetooth configuration utility does not open, so the only solution is to shut down by pressing the power button. Sometimes, restarting once is enough to correct the problem. Other times, I have to do it again and hold down the shift key when I press the power button, and OS X sees the keypress and forces a safe restart.

Every time I select the icon, the dot appears beneath it, but then it "unexpectedly closes". In addition, whenever I shut down my computer, it resets all of the user preferences I had prior to shutting it down, for instance, wallpaper, dock layout, default browser, etc etc.
I have had my MacBook for a while but have virtually filled my iTunes and am now wishing to store it on an external drive - you know, have iTunes appear so I can upload CDs on the go and such, but once the external drive is plugged in everything points to there. My problems are as follows (and, please bear in mind I am something of a dummy when it comes to this stuff - so basic talk please!!)
1. How do I rename the hard drive (when connected it is marked as "untitled")
2. I have tried going through preferences on iTunes and selecting the drive as the new location but when I attempt to consolidate the library it tells me that I have no privileges to do so.
I oped system preferences and it crashes, I open activity monitor and force quit it and then open it again and it crashes.. what can i do? i got a mac book pro 2.4 ghz intel i5 10.7.4 4 b
Info: MacBook Pro (13-inch Late 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.4)
when i try to get it to open it just says that System Preferences quit unexpectdedly and to reopen it but when i do the same sign pops up and repeats it over and over again
im using that converter which converts the mac port into VGA and im using a VGA to the tv and its only showing the screensaver. NOTHING ELSE. Also strangly enough it does show DISPLAYS when I open the prefrences.
I'm new to Macs and everytime I click on a link from gmail my system preferences box pops up and I cannot get to the website without pasting link into Safari. What do I do to change this?
