OS X :: Desktop Pictures Do Not Rotate/change On Secondary Display?

Jan 26, 2010

For some peculiar reason, my desktop pictures do NOT change / rotate on my secondary display.

I have a MacBook Pro 15" (Late 2007) running Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and I have dual displays. My primary display (the MBP screen) DOES change / rotate picture every minute, but I want my secondary display to do the same.

It seems that restarting does fix it, but only temporarily. I think it might have to do with plugging/unplugging the secondary display and sometimes if it's working, I disconnect and reconnect the monitor and then the pictures stop rotating.

All my desktop picture settings are correct in System Preferences. I tried unchecking then rechecking the "Change picture:" checkmark, but that doesn't fix anything.

I also tried clicking on different folders in the left column of the Pref Pane, then clicking back on my chosen desktop pictures folder.

IMac :: Unable To Use TV As Secondary Monitor / Switch Between Primary And Secondary Display?

Feb 2, 2009

we are trying to hook up our TV as a secondary monitor (for hulu, netflix, etc) but it defaults as the primary monitor. We would like to keep the imac as the primary monitor, and have the TV as a secondary, but cannot figure out how to do it! The only way we can get the imac back to primary status is if we use mirror mode. Once we take it off mirror mode, the TV becomes the primary monitor again, and there appears to be no way of switching it in OSX display preferences.

I've done similar hookups with my laptop, and the TV defaults as the secondary monitor. Why isn't this happening with our iMac? Any ideas?

MacBook :: Make Secondary Display Primary Display When Primary Display Nonfunctional?

Feb 8, 2012

My wife's macbook monitor is destroyed due to happy 2 year old. It won't be worthwhile to replace the monitor and it is not fixable without some expensive work being done on it, therefore I would like to use our TV as an external monitor and retire the macbook to being a mediia computer. I have connected it to the TV, and I see an empty desktop, as far as I can determine it looks like it is treating the TV as a secondary display - that  the desktop is extended onto - so I cannot actually interact with the normal desktop. When I try to run things using keyboard shortcuts I hear some sounds of things starting, but I don't see anything on the TV.  So what I need to do is to have some way to tell it to treat the secondary display as the primary display.

OS X :: Want To Start Using The MBP's Display As A Secondary Display?

May 8, 2010

I have an external monitor attached to my MacBook Pro that I use as my only monitor (I leave the MBP closed). I'm also a heavy Spaces user. I want to start using the MBP's display as a secondary display, but I want to have Spaces treat it differently than it currently does. Instead of having Spaces switch both monitors, I want it to only switch my primary monitor, and leave my secondary monitor constant. This way I can have FireFox in Space 1 and iTunes on the second monitor, then switch to Word in Space 2 and still be able to control iTunes without going back to the first space. Is there any way I can do this?

There must be a simple way to do this - I want launch an application from the command line or a script and have it appear in the secondary display in a dual monitor set up on a Mac Pro system.

I have played around with the DISPLAY variable with no success. Every time I launch the app, it appears on the primary display.

ICloud :: Why Does It Change The Log-on Photo Of Secondary Users

May 1, 2012

I have a prime iCloud account that I use to maintain a single address book and calendar. That way my wife and myself can both keep our address book and calendar the same and current. The iCloud account is in my name using my Apple ID and my wife's Mac is logged in to this account. Both of our Macs have a photo asssociated with our log on IDs. As long as my wife's Mac is logged in to iCloud (the desired situation) the log on photo that appears on her Mac is my photo not hers. I can succcessfulyl change it back to hers using the "Users and Groups" from the "Systems Preferences", but in no time at all it gets changed to my photo. I have isloated the problem to iCloud by having her Mac not logged in to my iCloud account and her photo remains unchanged, as I would expect.

On her Mac, I have reset the PRAM and executed a safe boot in an attempt to flush any strange data. I have not tried deleting any preferences files as I am not sure which ones to try.

OS X :: Spaces And Secondary Display Disappears

Nov 17, 2008

I use spaces with a projector as my secondary display for meetings at work. Any time I use the birds eye to view all of my spaces, my secondary display disappears, making it obvious that I'm tinkering around in spaces. Is there anyway to keep the secondary display stationary (IE not blacking out when I use the bird's eye view)? My goal is to keep my secondary display's desktop up at all times. I know you can press +tab to switch between apps, but is there anyway to tweak this in spaces so that the secondary display's desktop remains omnipresent? it does the same thing when you use the birds eye view in expose too. it would really help from being distracting when I use this feature for meetings at work. This way my secondary desktop could just serve as a digital banner that's always up.

MacBook :: Secondary Display - Kanex IAdapt Lost Edges Of Picture

Jun 9, 2010

I recently bought a Kanex iAdapt so I can use my TV as a secondary display. It works but there are a few annoying problems.

1) When I set the display output to any of the available resolutions (480p.720P.1080i) the picture is displayed - however the edges are cut off resulting in about 5 % of the picture being lost. this means that the taskbar on my mac is barely visible.Any ideas on why this is happening and how i can get it fixed?

2)This is more of a general question. A lot of the text that is displayed is blurry around the edges on all settings. Is this always the case for using TV's for secondary monitors?

This is my setup: [URL] Supports Mini DisplayPort 1.1a input, USB 2.0 input
Supports HDMI video resolution up to 1080p
Supports HDMI 225mhz/2.25Gbps per channel (6.75Gbps all channel) bandwidth

OS X :: Dropped Pictures To Desktop - Can't Access Anything

Dec 31, 2008

I'm running a macbook pro with tiger OSX. I wanted to transfer a folder of pictures into another one (around 3000 pictures, I'm not very organized and want to start) so I selected all the pictures and went to drag them into a new folder. I missed at put them to the desktop...

My desktop started rapidly filling up with pictures and even when I clicked the X to stop the transfer it kept going. My computer froze up and I powered it down. Once I turned it back on my desktop stayed blank. No Mac harddrive, no pictures, it's running really slowly and I cannot click anything from the top bar (finder, file, folder etc...)

I clicked the shortcut to go to change the desktop background and when I highlight the folder "desktop" all of my pictures show up in a massive list and I can change my desktop background to any one of them!
So my question here is is there any way I can restore my computer to a day ago (like on a pc) so I can go back and try again?

Or, since I am seeing them in this folder and its showing they are on my desktop (even though I can't see them) is there a shortcut I can press to open up my harddrive so I can see all of the files apparently on the desktop and then just transfer them into a folder?

All I can do at this point is run applications from my dock and I can't access anything!

OS X :: Using IPhoto Albums For Desktop Background Pictures?

Aug 11, 2010

I have a client who likes to have her desktop background picture change every 5 seconds. This is easy to set up. I go to System Preferences and pick the choices accordingly. The pictures are selected from an iPhoto album. This works fine except when you add more pictures to that album.

I can't figure out the exact sequence needed to get it to pick up the new pictures. If you look soon after you add them to the album in iPhoto you won't see them in the little thumbnails in the System Preferences panel - you'll only see the thumbnails of the pics you had before.

After fiddling with it a bit I can get the new pictures to show up and display on the desktop as needed. But, not sure what fiddling I did to make it happen.

It may have been a log-off and log-on that was needed. Maybe a reboot is required. I need to know so I can instruct the user on how to do it herself.
