After entering sudo command, terminal asks for password. After that it will not accept typing in password, I type and nothing appears. If I try to paste in password nothing happens.

In our higher education Mac computer lab, a printer may become paused (I am not sure why). But this requires an administrator password to unpause the printer, which only the admin in another building has. Is there a way to stop this type of activity? What causes a printer to become paused? Is there a way to not require admin status to continue?

Every time any user(even admin) prints, it requires a local admin or network admin user/pass to print.
I can't seem to run a sudo command in the OS X terminal. Every time I run a sudo command, I get no response, as if the command is not run at all. My sudo appears to be broken somehow. I've got a problem with mounting an NTFS drive that is dirty. I have a command I am trying to run using the "sudo" command, but it is not working.
Code: sudo /usr/local/bin/ntfs-3g /dev/disk0s3 /Volumes/WIN XP -o force
After the sudo, I am prompted for my password, but after that the only response I get is another prompt, as if the command was totally ignored. I have tried many different commands after the sudo, and cannot get a response from anything. I even tried "sudo tcsh", which should open up a new shell, but nothing. "sudo ls" also shows nothing, just another prompt.
Here is a screenshot that shows missing sudo command. How do I restore it? I am not a linux expert...

So I just inherited from my coworker's MacBook Pro. I then decided to transfer all of my files and realized that the root folder was still on his name. I changed the User's name in "System Preferences" but that did not change the root folder's name. I then went to Terminal and tried to change the folder's name using the "mv OldFoldersName NewFoldersName" and the prompt said Permission denied. I then used "sudo mv OldFoldersName NewFoldersName". After restarting my computer, all the files were gone and I landed on a "LION first time USE" type of Desktop. All my files are gone and terminal shows me two users' names under /Users/ => OldUser and NewUser.
What can I do to recover my old files? What can I do to repair my Mistake and only have one User?

Someone gave me a terminal command that allowed my OS X Admin user permission to make an application alias without having to enter my user password. I've since forgotten the command and wish to use it for a new admin user since my old admin has gremlins on a number of apps but new users are not troubled in same way. I can't beleive Apple would default to requiring a password to make/edit an alias but there you go the distrurbing trend towards their total control of my desktop advances… not to mention User SysPrefs leaking over from another user for keyboard shortcuts and sounds?

I was just browsing the Internet as usual, and suddenly my Mac popped up a dialog box with the message "Software Update wants to make changes", asking me for an administrator's password. I checked in the Dock and Software Update was NOT running!
I clicked Cancel on the box and it popped up again 2-3 times before finally going away. Can Software Update run in the background without any user intervention now? Could it be some kind of new Mac malware?

Ok so opened Directory Utility, unlocked it and then selected Enable Root User and set a password, locked Directory Utility opened terminal and typed sudo root.
When I entered the password I set I just get "Sorry, try again". Have tried going back into Directory Utility and changing the password but get the same thing.
i'm trying to install a program i got for free onto my macbook pro.
i have to go to my applications > utilities > terminal
i then open up a new command line and enter this:
sudo /Applications/TextEdit.app/Contents/MacOS/TextEdit /etc/hosts
then it asks for my password and i type in my password for my computer, the only password i have ever had for this computer, and the password that authenticates all of the system changes.

We are running Mac OS 10.4 in a student lab. Leopard asks for an administrator password to unpause a printer, and our students do not have the admin password for obvious reasons, but a certain printer keeps doing this. Is there anything that can be done to stop having to authenticate for this kind of event?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am new to my unibody Macbook. I bought it as an open box item at Best Buy. I was desperate for a new computer and I had and still have little cash. Therefore, I am hoping someone has an easy fix for my odd issue. It seemed to be fine for two or three weeks and making my life so much more fun, now it works but is annoying.
Now that I can't return the machine, it is making the "bonk" noise in succession as if I am repeatedly pushing the escape key with no window open. Other times it will not let me click the mouse when this happens and if I press the apple key it seems to be fine, almost as if it resets an works like there is no problem. I can't find any pattern to when this happens it seems completely at random.
There is no odd esoteric software on my computer and I haven't added any weird downloads on it either. I just have been importing music and photos so far. I haven't had it long enough to get it too screwed up.
I did reinstall Leopard trying to clean out anything that may have been causing this. It didn't help. I downloaded a patch from apple to fix an issue early unibody models had with the track pad. This didn't help anything either. I am almost wondering if there is a glitch in my escape key. I don't have apple care, at least I don't think I do, as I didn't pay for any extra warranty.
I had to reset my admin password. I am running 10.7 but had to use the snow lepard disc. i was able to re-set it. Now when i restart the comp, it shows my accounts with its picture, but when i click on an account nothing happens. The screen is showing my accounts, and the options to restart, turn off or put the computer to sleep. What am i doing wrong. I cant sign on to any of my accounts.
View 6 Replies View RelatedFor the past month or so, any time I've tried to go through the process of installing an app that requires Installer to do the work, when it comes time to enter my admin password, nothing happens. The password box pops up, I enter the correct password (as when I enter an incorrect one it does its "incorrect password shake-thing") and, like always, the admin password box disappears. Normally at this point, the installer continues on to install the app, but instead it does absolutely nothing. I can click "Install" again to enter the password, but, again, nothing happens. I've tried changing my password, deleting preference files, doing a disk repair and permissions repair - nothing.

Problem detected lately: When managing units (Airport Extreme) the Main Password to manage the Airport is not longer accepted when entered (asked by) server application. The password is valid and I am able to have full control over the base station when I am using the Airport utility application.
