Currently working on a mobile lab of 25 Macbooks(10.6.8) and a USB printer. (Users connect the cable when they need to print)(no matter what printer I connect)
Every time any user(even admin) prints, it requires a local admin or network admin user/pass to print.
In our higher education Mac computer lab, a printer may become paused (I am not sure why). But this requires an administrator password to unpause the printer, which only the admin in another building has. Is there a way to stop this type of activity? What causes a printer to become paused? Is there a way to not require admin status to continue?

Leopard asks for an administrator password to unpause a printer, and our students do not have the admin password for obvious reasons, but a certain printer keeps doing this. My Macbook Pro 6,1 Snow Leopard 10.6.8 has dropped the Admin Password. I can reboot and get it to work once in the change password window but nowhere
else. The other passwords do not seem to have been affected. IE Quicken.

So I'm trying to print to a network printer, connected to a Vista PC. My Brother (windows fanboy) is able to print just fine through his wireless PC (Win7) but I can't get my head around why I cannot. I saved a webpage that helped me out before (used on Leopard) which use to work but it no longer work

I am having a problem with my Canon Pixma 5200. For some reason it has stopped recognising text. It will print out the test print ok. I can print pictures but no text. I have used different applications, Pages, Word and pdf and although it sounds as though it is printing I end up with a blank sheet. I have a letterhead with my email address on it and having typed a long letter only the email address came out (this was in the same font as the letter but a smaller size).

I have a Brother DCP-9270CDN that is connected via Ethernet to my network. since about a week it does not go to sleep anymore unless al computers sleep. as soon as I wake one of the computers the printer shows it is receiving data (it has a LCD display that shows it) and as such does not sleep. Needles to say nobody is sending it data to print, and preferences are set for it to go to sleep. I also have not changed any software since it started to happen. Â
Something in my computer is sending it data (about every 3 minutes as the display shows it is receiving data) all the time I suspect

I have had difficulty in attaching my HP Photosmart C5580 printer to my new MacBookPro (OSX 10.6) through my Netgear WGPS606 print server. After much searching I found previous posts here which advised me to add the Gutenprint driver 5.2.6 which I did. That finally DID successfully attach the printer through the server...
However, there is a lag of many seconds (sometimes minutes) between the SEND command and the starting of the printer. Is this the new normal that I need to expect or is there a fix?
My Mac Book Pro forgets time, date and network password when battery runs flat. My software is up to date. The computer is about three years, but surely it shouldn't be necessary to change battery every three years?

I have MacBook OsX 10.5.6. Had a direct printer connection but recently decided to hook up my Epson R1800 stylus photo printer through TC. I removed the old default printer and added it through System Preferences-> Print and Fax. It is recognized as a Time Capsule Printer, bonjour kind.
But when I press print i get for 2 seconds window saying that page is printing but printer queue is empty and nothing happens. It feels almost as if printer is not hooked up. I can not locate this printer on Epson Utility (separate software) either. Does anyone have or had in the past similar problem?
I need to find a way to recover the Admin password on a Leopard based machine. I'm working on it with admin privileges. It's important that I do not reset it. Just recovery would be great; Is there a way?
View 24 Replies View RelatedOn 10.6.2, I noticed that in the Get Info window, permissions for a file could be changed without having to "unlock" the operation with the administrator password. This was not the case in Leopard, which required the admin password before permissions could be changed through the Get Info window.
I found this to be concerning from a security standpoint. I had hoped that 10.6.3 would fix the issue, but it still appears to be a problem. I've noticed this on three different machines, two with clean installs of 10.6 and one with an upgrade from 10.5. Does anyone else notice this issue? Am I right in assuming that this is a security issue? The ability for permissions to be changed for any file directly from the Finder's Get Info window without even an admin password seems to be rather insecure to me.
