I have just purchased a set of logitech x-530 speakers to go with my 2010 MBP. It was a bit of a rushed buy without much research and as such I have realised that the computer doesn't seem to have the appropriate soundcard to produce 5.1 sound (is this correct). At the moment I can only play 2 channel sound leaving the other 3 speakers hanging about. Do I need to buy a external sound card or is there an adaptor
View 16 Replies View RelatedI'm planning to buy a new iMac in the next week but I'm looking for the one that will produce the less heat so that will make less fan noise. I'm only using it to watch YouTube and play World of Warcraft. Anyone know which one will produce less heat, i3 or the i5 or even the i7. Budget is not a problem. I prefer to pay a little more if I know I will have less fan noise so less heating. Anyone maybe have different model at home or at the office and noticed a difference between all the models ? Maybe it's more a size question between the 21.5 and the 27 inch iMac and less a cpu question ?

Does ANYONE know the secret? Can it be done, or not? My PC clients do it all the time easily. Then I want to be able to send the embedded image/document (not as an attachment, but visable within the email when opened) to many email contacts at once, BUT the individuals receiving them DO NOT SEE the other email contacts.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI just replaced my damage HD (original HD) to my MBP 2009 unibody. So far, I like the SSD drive, and I use it for my internal storage. I've been read a fews article online, but it seems I don't find the answer. My concern is, How do I reduce TBW on SSD? if I play video (like youtube, Netflix, or Hulu) or play online games, would it be increase my TBW? So far, I set up my download file to my external HD. Whenever I download file, application, or etc, it would go to my external HD. Second question, What can I do to lower the use of SSD? Therefore, my SSD will last long like 3-5 years perhaps. Third question, since Samsung Magician Software can't run on MBP. How do I check my TBW and the health of my SSD?

My Macbook pro wouldn't turn on. I booted to the installation DVD and installed OS X to the external drive. Once the installation was done, I was able to access my laptop without any problem and I retrieved all my files from the USERS Folder. I tried to copy my old files to the external disk, before formatting the system’s internal drive and reinstalling OS X.
However, at every attempt, I’d get “some data can’t bet read or written (Error Code -36)”. I ran a Verify/Repair Disk Permissions and this is what I got:

I've downloaded Mac the Ripper, Handbrake and VLC media player in the hopes that it could pull off the vob files, but nothing has worked so far.

my mac was getting really slow so i wiped and reloaded the hd. it was zippy for a couple hours, then started bogging down again. i saw huge amounts of data being written to the hd when i wasn't using my computer, 10+ GB over a couple days i was only checking email. how can i find out what program is writing to my hd?
I used to be able to add files (pictures) to CD-R that was previously used. Now if I try to add more files to it, it tells me that CD can no longer be modified. Means that it was automatically closed. How can I continue adding files to a same CD without closing it after?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am trying to copy about 12000 songs from my internal HD to an external so I can wipe my drive clean and start again. The problem is that I keep getting this "disk cannot be read from or written to" every few hundred songs. The songs have come from all over, and there is no common thread to how I acquired any of them. I've actually got this error when trying to copy several different file types to an external HD and I've no earthly idea why. I'm sure the drive is riddled with irreparable errors which is why I want to wipe it, but I need to get a lot of these files over before I do so. Can anyone recommend some kind of utility that will identify and/or repair these corrupt files so I don't have to stop and start the transfer every 30 seconds?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a problem when I'm transferring files from my powerbook g4 to external hard disks such as lacie or ipod. It keeps popping up "the finder cannot complete the operation because some data in file AVI could not be read or written. (Error Code -36). This happens just for certain files, not all of them. I don't know whether the hard disk has an issue or the file is corrupted and if the file is corrupted I hope there is a program that can restore it.

Now I am confused by this as yes as people say KPs can be caused by hardware, but surely badly or incorrectly written software can also cause KPs, as in badly written Kernel extensions are also a cause are they not ? I am trying to get to the bottom of all the Kernel Panics people are getting on Mac Pros, because all these reports seem to have appeared since Snow Leopard raised its ugly head.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've done a search for this and cannot seem to find a definitive solution. I've just upgraded to a larger Verbatim external drive and when I go to take files off my existing external drive across to it, it keeps coming up with the error: The Finder can't complete the operation because some data in *** can't be read or written. This only happens in certain folders. I am able to copy some folders across, but some I get this error. I've tried verifying both drives, formatting the Verbatim one for FAT32, repairing, but nothing seems to work. Some points that may be worth mentioning:
- The original external drive is formatted as MAC OS X Extended Journaled.
- Some of the folders I am having trouble with may have been originally created on a PC.
I would like to keep the new drive as FAT32, so I can use it on a PC if I need to down the road. I read something about using dot_clean via terminal, but I can never seem to get the path correct to my external drive. (The name of the external drive is MASTER HD) Would appreciate if anyone else has had the same problem could tell me what they did to solve it? Not sure why some files will copy over and some wont?
When ever I click on the itunes or finder icons, I get this error message: "The itunes Library .itl file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have written permission for this file". I read somewhere that for itunes it may have gotten stuck as a read only file and you can fix this by going to my documents --> music --> itunes --> properties --> unselect "read only". But when I click on "my documents" it tells me that I have to open it with "finder", and "finder" gives me the same error message as itunes.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am a Mac convert now two years and was beginning to truly believe Macs are impervious to the hair pulling and teeth gnashing so often associated with PC's but...I have been repeatedly trying to write to my WorldBook NAS which has previously worked beautifully but everytime I try to write anything remotely large, I get the message,
"An unexpected error has occurred the file could not be written to the disk. Error Code 51"
My NAS is 2TB and attached to my D-Link wireless. I have used it exclusively for my iTunes library and it has worked very nicely.I experienced this the first time with one of three movies I am adding to my library. After a couple tries, I decided to let iTunes copy it to the folder in it's process of adding it to the library and it worked fine. The following day I repeated the process and now I get the message through iTunes as well.
I have two Mac's -- roughly 2007 Mac Book Pro's. One is rather beat up. Both are running the latest 10.6.4. I got a CD with data on it from a film processing shop and put it into the Mac and the Mac eventually gave me the same prompt as you get when you put in a fresh, unburnt, writable CD. I asked the Mac to eject the CD which it did.
I went back to the shop and they could mount the CD just fine (I think they had a PC). I tried a second time on the Mac -- same thing. I then put it in an AIX system and it could read it just fine too. So, the CD is "ok" as far as AIX and Windows is concerned but the Mac sees it as a fresh new unburnt CD.
after choosing format, initially, for Time Capsule, further chose to write 1s and 0s and I don't see either progress bar or any other indication process completed. Will lights blink differently? Is there other way to verify process completed? Apple offers us the option to write zeros but without way of confirming they were written. I find this puzzling, at least.

I am running osx 10.5.4 on a brand new macbook. I have an old, crappy external hard drive that works intermittently with a bunch of large files on it that I am copying to my new, fancy external hard drive. Problem is, more than half the time, finder will report "unable to complete the operation because some data on 'filename' could not be read or written. (Error Code -36)"
This would be no problem, as I could then just cancel the copy and try again. But Finder freezes the copy window open, and it will not close by clicking on the "x" in the copy window. The only way to try again is to relaunch Finder. I do not want to force finder to quit every time I try to copy a file to my new drive. Is relaunching finder repeatedly bad for my system or hardware? Seems like a glitch. Is there a way around this?
